Okay, I was thinking last night after work--

Which giant mecha is the most popular? Is it the stylin Megaduce, the soulful Evangelion androids, the sky surfing LFO's and KLF's on Eureka Seven, or the much hyped Gundam robots from the Gundam series. The choices are above! Vote wisely!

None of the above.

You forgot Macross units! :mutter: :waah!:

I chose the Gundam units.

What about Giant Robo or Transformers?

I second Roy. How can you have classic mecha without the transforming macross mecha? Given the choices, I'd pick the LFO's, but still, for shame, man.

I would put Guymelefs from Escaflowne on my list of one of my favorites.

But there are so many mechas to choose from.

Like

The Valkyries from Macross

The Patlabors from Patlabor

The mechas from FMP and Blue Gender

Well, forgive me! I didn't mean to leave them off! I just didn't know they EXISTED! I just went with the well known Mechs!

No need to say you are sorry Khaki. No one is at fault.

I second Tron's Gustaff.

If were chatting about popularity here, Gundams are unquesionably the most iconic, even if personal taste points towards other series. People in the streets think "Giant robot," they think "Gundam."

Although technically...

MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom or Gundam MK II, so yeah, Gundam. But those were a tough set to decide from...

I voted for the EVAs because they were the closest to the Core Robots from Dual which you also forgot to add.Maybe you should have put an OTHER option in the
poll.
Would the Shaft Drive from Geneshaft be considered some type of Mecha?

Yes, it would.

There are only four Gundams that I really liked,

Gundam Wing Custom (the one from Endless Waltz)

Epyon from Gundam Wing

RX-79 G Ez8 from 08th MS Team

Rx-93 ν]Col. Roy Mustang [/font]

That was something that I ask earler in the thread. Guymelefs and Valkyries are very well known.

If you are going by the anime, yes. But its not as popular as Gundam or EVA.

Really, Big O wasn't that popular in Japan, but it was popular here.

As far as the Shaft Drive on Geneshaft goes there were at least two of them:
the first was the main Drive that was usually piloted by Mika and the second was the one that Sergey created for Mir.Also unlike the EVAs,Gundams and Core Robots
I don't think it was ever revealed how the pilots were selected only that Mika,Sophie,Mir and Tiki were all selected to act as pilots. It's also interesting to note that they always had a back up pilot in standby mode on board the Bilkis
just in case something went wrong.

For those who have never seen Geneshaft let me elaborate on what I said previously:the Shaft Drive had to options one was where the pilot operated like a normal mecha, the other was a remote control option.Whenever the Drive was used
in the show two pilots would be selected. One to operate as pilot the other to operate as back up on board the Bilkis using the remote control.Since at the beginning it manifested certain bugs in it the back up pilot became an important part
of the show as she could access the controls and try to help the pilot(usually Mika)
by determining what the trouble was.Early on the bugs became so critical that
a debugging expert had to be included in the crew compliment.
The fact is the bugs never did get worked out until the final episode or so.
