Les Misérables - Shoujo Cosette

Postby bigsleepj » Fri Mar 23, 2007 11:09 am

One of my favourite pieces of classic literature has become an anime. Les Misérables, a book that's 1500 pages long (depending on the print) is broadcasted as a 52 episode anime that began on TV in Japan in January 2007 as part of the World Masterpiece Theatre series. I hope it gets released in English and that's it's actually decent, considering that there is no definitive film-version of the book (though the 1997 live-action one with Liam Neeson was decent). Anyway, here's hoping it's good.

Victor Hugo and anime sounds :thumb: to me.I guess if they were able to adapt a musical to it an anime wouldn't have been out of the question.I wonder how true they will be to the novel.Basically as long as they keep it close to Hugo's classic I would love to see it.
Personally when I think of what Disney did to The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I cringe. :shake:
So it would be nice to see one of Hugo's works actually animated the right way.

At least they're giving this epic the right amount of episodes. :)

Well, I saw some of it online; unfortunately it's no longer up where it was. *sniffle* I was so glad, though, because for a long time I've loved Les Miz the book, the play, the movie... Anyway, the first three episodes are wonderful.

Very much in keeping with the storyline, but so far it concentrates on Cosette's life with the Thenardiers. It also has a bit of Valjean and Fantine. Only one glimpse of Javert so far, and I can't wait to see how they make him out to be. I do hope he's not going to turn out as a stereotypical bad guy.

If I remember aright the only thing that made Jalvert the baddie was that he was overly obssessed with recapturing Jean Valjean.

Quite right. Unfortunately, it seems that people in movies enjoy portraying him as overly evil, and I'm worried that this anime will do the same. (The artist made him look evil, which worries me exceedingly.)

I've always felt that Thernardier was the real villain of the book. Javert is only obsessed with jailing Valjean for several reasons, but Thernardier is more loathsome and underhanded.
