Yeah, that's Makoto Shinkai's latest project. He did Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised on Our Early Days(Years?) All I can say is he sure has a way with backgrounds. Even if the plot isn't anything wonderful, I'll watch it just for the visuals.

Nice sense of style going for it, judging based off the trailer, and Jon, I'd say it looks more like a "Slice of life" series than a romance.

I'll be watching for this one.

It looks like the other films he's done--artistically gorgeous. XD I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one. :thumb:

Well what sort of genres do Makoto Shinkai's works tend to fall under?

Romance, generally. XD Voices of a Distant Star was a romance, as was The Place Promised in Our Early Days, so I wouldn't be surprised if this new one ended up being a romance, too.

Regardless, the trailer has me intrigued, so I'll see if I can catch some of it.

couldn't you at least had the decency to keep the rest of my post intact? Sheesh.

For those who are interested, you can also see this thread about this same project-- which I'm VERY excited about.

P.S. Isn't it 5 Centimeters per Second?

When he made the OVA called She and Her Cat in 1999. he and His girlfriend, name Mika Shinohara did the voices for it. He played the role of the cat and she played the role of She.

The Original Version of the Voices of a Distant Star. He and Mika Shinohara, which was his fiancee at time now wife did the voices of characters.

Later, they hired professional voice actor and actress to play the role of characters.

So, you can tell that his stories are about love.

5 Centimeters per Second is three short movies tied together about the relationship of young male and female that are close friends.

Managed to catch the first "Episode," as I needed to stay up late to polish something off anyway. And wow, this is, like, the Anime made for people like my Mom; and I mean that in the best of ways. This is the Anime you watch when it's cold, raining, windy, and generally miserable outside. Warms the soul.

Watch this, people.

Quoted for truth. It has a Honey and Clover-esque quality to it with superior animation, I would've love to see Honey and Clover with this kinda lighting and shading.

The best film I've seen this year. Which I haven't even seen all of yet. (Silly Japanese getting everything before us).

This my favorite work by Shinkai-san so far. I was literally crying when Takaki met Akari at the train station after she had been waiting for him for over four extra hours.

And I had been praying it would happen, but when they kissed, I was jumping around my whole house screaming, "YES! THEY KISSED! THEY ACTUALLY KISSED!"

And this is coming from someone who doesn't like 99% of love films.

I can't wait for it to be released on DVD so I can import it and see the other two episodes.

Ha. Every month or so, I check to see if I can find episodes 2 and 3 online, but no luck so far.

And of course, I'll buy this when it comes to America. On sight or something.

Why wait? I'm going to import it on Play Asia whenever it comes out. (I have little to no patience with something I love).

I'm suprisingly patient when it comes to waiting for Anime and Manga. It's after the supposed due date is over that I get flustered.

Well, I don't have to wait much longer.

SUPER MEGA UPDATE!

Amazon.jp has stated that 5CPS is coming out on a special collectors edition that will include 2 DVD's, 1 Audio CD, a booklet containing 20 pieces of art, and a strip of film. It will retail for 6,990 Yen. Which including importing prices would probably be around $60 to $90 dollars.

It will include tons of bonus features for the fanatics like myself including:

-Interviews with Mr. Shinkai and cast members.

-Storyboards.

-History of making.

-And a music video.

So...I'm going to completely 100% ask this for my birthday. Anyone else interested?

Is this DVD release for all three episodes, or just the first?

All three of course silly. It wouldn't cost that much yen for nothing. XD

Uh, yeah. You never seen the prices for just one or two eps per dvd in Japan, have you?

Edit: Sorry if that sounded a bit rude. But most dvd's from Japan only have one or two eps per disk and cost from $30 to $50.
