What Mech Animes do you like and why?
I'm hoping to explore some of these animes in particular and would like to hear all your views.
Thank you.
(no arguing, please)

I love Mobile Fighter G Gundam, myself. Is it cheesy? A bit. Is it a lot of fun? Heck yes! I actually LIKE that it's somewhat overblown. It's easy to take things too far [I'm looking at YOU, Akira Toriyama!], but G Gundam does it in a way that's enjoyable, if that makes sense [and even if it doesn't].

Escaflowne is probably my all-time favorite, and one of the best series I've ever seen. The plot was incredible, and a welcome departure from the AC-whatever-years that always seem to swallow the genre. Just don't watch the movie.
Gundam Wing is my favorite of the Gundam series...the plot was very involving, the characters were great, and for sentimental value, it was what pushed me over the edge into fandom.

Let's see...
Gundam: 08th MS Team for taking a much more realistic approach to the giant robot concept than is usually seen. I prefer my giant robots more as large weapons than unstopable superthings.
Patlabor, which is even more realistic than 08th MS Team. The very idea of mecha being reguared as useless money traps is priceless on its own, let alone surouned by such good storytelling.
Eureka 7, basically for doing right all the things Evangelion did wrong (less angst, more likable characters, a story that actually comes together), and for some of the most exciting mecha combat I've seen on TV.
Evangelion. Okay, I confess that before it goes totally mad and falls apart, Eva has some of the best mecha action I've ever seen.
Dai-Guard. I've only seen part of this series, but I really like it's depiction of the real-world difficulties a giant robot would represent (like, for example, the sheer COST).
Macross; cos I'm a sucker for the classics.

Generally gundam fans look down on this show, but you know what? I absolutely loved it. I like the more realistic approach to the mecha war thing. At least the more realistic feel to the soldiers lives if just not the Mecha.
For that reason, I'm a huge fan of Full Metal Panic. Martian Successor Nadesico is also a fantastic anime. Eva of course. If you like mecha you need to see this at least once. If for no other reason than that it is one of those anime that kind of set the bar for the "military drama" aspect of the genre (along with Macross and Gundam).
Godanner... Well, it grew on me. I watched it out of morbid curiosity at first, but by the fourth episode I was cheering. I need to get more of that one.

Not a fan of most Mech Anime I've seen, as I have a reservation against most boy pilots and the "Superhero" factor (one lone unit takes out an entire army, etc.).
But props to Evangelion and Full Metal Panic! for added other interesting elements to the mix and generally keeping things more realistic...as realistic as giant robots can be, anyway.

Gundam Seed. Yeah, I know alot of people don't like it for whatever their reasons are, but I do. I love it.
Eureka Seven. Now this one is the one I love. There's a lot of character developement and the battles are freak'n awesome. I love it too.

You know, I never heard that.

Neither did I. I always thought 08th MS Team was quite well liked among Gundam fans. I mean compared to all of the bashing I sometimes happen across involving Wing and Seed...
I like Eureka 7, but some of the early episodes were pointless enough that I suspect that they didn't initially have enough story material to last 50+ episodes so had to drag things out.

Any time I'm out and about somewhere and Gundam comes up, I mention, "man, I really liked 08th MS team!" and the response is typically, "What, seriously? Eugh. I hated that thing!" or something to that effect. They cite various reasons, but honestly I've never heard of anyone liking it but me until now.

Hmmm, well...
Gundam 0080: War in the pocket. The shortest and perhaps least known and liked of the gundam series, War in the pocket focuses more on the human side than of robots bashing each other. There are actually very few battles in it, but the character development makes you care very much about their outcomes.
Gundam 8th team: Another of the gundam series that strived to be a little bit more realistic. The battle between the Ez-8 and Gouf is truly among the best in terms of both choreography and plot. The only thing I didn't like about 8th team was the villain....he became a little too cliche and well, stupid at the end.
Gundam Wing: This was the series that got me into anime. While certainly not realistic in many ways, I liked the villains. The majority of them are intelligent and unpredictable. Treise Kushrenada is truly a man you can dislike and yet still respect.
Pull Metal Panic!: Mecha with a little bit of romance and comedy thrown in for good measure. While it contains the standard fair from several genres, it combines them well and is an enjoyable to watch. I still want to know how Sousuke hides a bazooka under his jacket...
There are probably more I liked, but I can't think of them right now.

A couple that I have never seen but I think would be interesting would be
Sailor Victory and Sakura Wars. Now if I could only find them.
As far as Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed go,I noticed in the end credits for GW
episode Quatre versus Heero that Lisa Ann Beley was in the cast of Gundam Wing.
As you might know she also was in Gundam Seed as the Captain Murrue Ramius.
btw:Is it possible that Murrue might be a descendant of the character that Sean
Connery played in The Hunt For Red October(also named Ramius)?
