Is anyone else watching this wonderful new series? I've been comparing it to one big warm fuzzy. Lots of cute characters, a great inspiring motto, and every episode ends in a way that just makes you feel so good all over!

I watched a few episodes but stopped. The story is good but there is too much "fan service" (i.e. camera angles whose purpose is show off grade schoolers bodys). For me that ruined an otherwise good show.

Bad Service?
I haven't been watching
Manabi Straight but have been following the discussion of it more or less.
I'm concerned about the "fan service" issues myself, because while I'm not necessarily a prude, that sort of stuff can absolutely
kill a show I would otherwise like.
In this case, what I'm seeing/hearing about the show is somewhat heartbreaking, because it looks like it has excellent cuteness potential -- and I'm big on cuteness.
But if they're going to sexualize the girls, count me out.
:thumbsdow

What do you mean by showing off grade schoolers bodies. If the camera angles are showing up their skirts and just focusing on their chest then count me out but if the scene just shows their legs and feet doesnt mean it is fan service. Like showing a person legs moving when they run is not fan service even if they are bare.

I'm up to Ep. 4 and no panty shots or bra shots. Ep. 3 had some questionable shots during the dodgeball tournament, but it was a very very very small part of the episode.
What may worry people later on is that it appears that one of the girls, Mika, seems to have a sexual preference for her own gender. Nothing is in stone yet, but there's a lot of evidence leaning in that direction.
Regardless, the story is solid, the emotions heartfelt, and the characters plenty of fun to watch.

There are shots like in the first episode at the pool. The camera was waist high and framed on either side by a swim suite girls. This draws attention to the backsides of grade school girls in form fitting outfits.
I figured this was just a one time thing and kept watching. There were other similar instances but episode 3 was where I called it quits.
I feel very disapointed. The story, dialouge, characters, etc. are GREAT, but the animation focuses on the wrong things.

If you think everything outside the choices for camera angles is "GREAT", then why are you letting one little thing bother you into not watching it at all?

There's also a thread about this series up at Abhnation and I just posted there today asking about fanservice in it.

I watched liked half of the first episode but just quit because cuteness isn't my thing.
I will remark the the lighting for this show really gives the animation a remarkable touch, its almost like a low-key Makoto Shinkai effect.

Well I got my answer at Abhnation. It seems that fanservice is practically nonexistant according to those who have actually seen it.It's mainly a 'cute' series.
