Well, after considering Kamichu I decided there was more monetary room for a thinpak purchase. Being a huge fan of cute, relaxed shows I considered Sister Princess.

Has anyone here seen it? I've read some very mixed reviews about this show, especially regarding the subtext of the brother/sister relationship. Is it something that should keep me from purchasing the series, or the show enjoyable regardless of this kind of subtext?

As a side note, I checked out Repure and it seems to be filled with that subtext. I also caught a glimpse of a few episodes of the original series on youtube (for previewing purposes) and it didn't seem like it hinted any of that.

Well, I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's terrible. If you want a good thinpack to get, I suggest Kino's Journey.

Yeah, I bought it thinking it looked cute. Aside from a really catchy intro theme, it's really not enjoyable.

Well, it's not a series with any depth or overall riviting content. It's a very relaxed show about a young man who finds out he has a dozen sisters (no explination is given about the backgrounds) who come from various walks of life and locations around the world. In essence, it's a bunch of younger siblings who look up to their brother for guidence, protection and security. Each episode is centered around a theme such as, "Let's send emails to each other brother!" or "Let's go on vacation brother!" with perhaps the strangest being "Let's get married brother!" Some of the episodes deal with individual girls focusing on their unique personality. For the most part it's harmless fluff and can be slow at times. Not a show I would say I hated but not one I had to see as soon as it arrived.

Despite ADV trying to market it on the "excitement" of incest, it's rather wholesome. The only problem is THE CHARACTERS ARE TOO FREAKIN' DULL! I also got really tired of watching trite excuses for plot being dug up and quit around the halfway mark. A show without a decent plot or interesting characters CANNOT be considered a good show.

I suppose given the responses, I'll have to be on the fence with this one.

Though just because a show might lack a decent plot doesn't necessarily mean I am going to hate it (I was looking for something along the lines of Best Student Council and Strawberry Marshmallow - something to simply sit back and relax).

I did enjoy the episodes I was previewing in the first series, sans what I've seen in the creepier second season.

I also bought the thin pack for cheap thinking it looked cute and thinking I had read a good review of it...but it's pretty shallow and devoid of any real plot. I do understand that a show can be good without a decent plot, but this doesn't only lack that, it also lacks any innovation in the characters, using worn stock cliches instead. I did find it amusing in a "this is so unbelievable it's funny" sense, and it did have a vapid cuteness, but certainly not anything I would recommend unless you really want something that doesn't require independent thought.

Then this is probably about right for you. You can't misunderstand a storyline about a house full of sisters waiting with bated breath for their brother to reply to their emails. Not exactly original, but certainly requiring a minimum of thought. Or sentience, for that matter.

Likewise, it doesn't take a solemn mind to understand a show like Mao-chan, with the insanely complex premise of having cute girls defend Japan from cute alien invaders. And I enjoyed that series! ^_^

As long as I know the entire first season is just harmless fluff, then it's worth a shot for me.

Sister is Princess is for the most part harmless. In one episode Sakuya asks Watru something like "What if I weren't your real sister?" In the second season (Sister Princess RePure) they much more obvious that more than one of the sisters want a "more than siblings" relationship.

The premeise is very weak, no more than an excuse to a guy sorrunded by a bunch of cliche girls, but over all it's a light, fluffy, and enjoyable show.
