So, what is your favorite movie by Hayao Miyazaki that was made during the 1980's?

Mine definitely has to be Castle in the Sky. Partly because it was the first Miyazaki film I ever saw, but mostly because the characters are really fun and I love the plot. =)

Is Princess Monanoake an 80s film?
Regardless of the unrealistic fighting (such as de-attached limbs resembling a slab of steak), I just found the plot and story to be the best.

The name is sorta dumb though.

Since PM is not on the list but Nausicaa is, I'll put Nausicaa down.

Nope, Princess Mononoke was made around the mid or late 90's. I believe it was released in Japan in 1997. I agree that the plot and story were amazing, though.

Oh, really?

Then my vote goes to Nausicaa. I liked the manga more though.

They're all good to watch but it was between Kiki and Nausicaa for me.I chose
Kiki because it had the late Phil Hartman in the dub and was really a fun one to watch.

Totoro's an old family favorite, and Castle in the Sky was decent.

Not quite sure which I'd say is best.

Well, Castle in the Sky is my favorite Miyazaki movie of all time, so I guess I'm going with that one. XD

Nausicaa was great, but the manga was even better (well most of it).
My Neighbor Totoro is a VERY close second.
Then Castle in the Sky and then Kiki's Delivery Service.

But really all his (and Studio Ghibli's) movies have their own levels of awesomeness (except Pom Poko).

I love them all; it's too hard to vote. But I will watch Totoro or Kiki's most often. They are both great pick-me-ups.

Nausicaä remains my favorite of Miyazaki's works, mostly because it was my first so there is a certain romance for me there.

After some hard thinking, I went with My Neighbor Totoro. But I still like them all. ^_^

Castle in the Sky is my favorite Miyazaki film. I love the background given the city of Laputa, Muska is a really fun and awesome badguy (played to perfection by Mark Hamil in the dub....it's too bad that the leads aren't as good as him), and I really like Hisaishi's rerecorded score he made for the dub.

I love his other movies, though...but for some reason Castle in the Sky has always stuck with me.

Totoro all the way. One of the very first animes I ever saw (back when I was, what like 5 or 6) good memories...
