*Hands USSRGirl a paperbag* Breath into that while your sensei provides you with the answers you seek.
First, yes, it came out in June. . . In Japan. You have not missed the domestic released, which is, to the best of my knowledge, currently unscheduled. Whether it will receive a theatrical release stateside is also uncertain. If the past treatment of Miyizaki movies is any indicator, though, it might get a limited run in a some art house theaters but it probably won't be widely released.
And, yes, you are correct. The film was roasted by the critics. But who cares what they thing anyways, eh?

is it dubbed?
Nope!
Was it in U.S. theatres?
Since there is not a dub, no and since Sci-fi owns the rights to the LA movie of Tales From EarthSea untill 2009, it will not be being getting a dub or will it make it here to the states, untill Sci-fi Channel deal ends in 2009.
Can I get it on DVD?
See answer above!
Uh... I heard it flopped though. Bad reviews.
It did get bad reviews in Japan. But I think alot of it, because of Goro Miyazaki making the movie. Hayao Miyazaki, father of Goro told him not to work on this movie. This cause the news people in Japan to report that Hayao an Goro were not getting along.
They maybe some things between him and his son, but Hayao has really got mad with the press over the matter.
I think press wants Goro to fail, so that they can say that he is not as good as his father.

It should be noted that, while the critics were very harsh with it, it STILL was the #1 movie in Japan for SEVERAL weeks. I think not even the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel beat it, and if I remember right the original is popular in Japan.
But, yeah, not coming out unless SciFi's agreement somehow changes and they let the movie in, or until 2009. So nothing to panic about

I think it still #1. I think its the most gross anime movie for this year in Japan.
I check on that later, after I go to bed.

But, frankly, I don't know that you can trust box office numbers to be an indicator of the quality of a film. People expect so much out of Studio Ghibli films that they go to see them, banking on the reputation of the studio. (I would compare studio Ghibli's reputation in Japan to, say, Pixar's reputation in the states.) Even if the film was terrible, lots of people would go see it just because it's a Ghibli.

I agree, I wasn't saying it was a GOOD film--I can't say, as I haven't seen it. I was just saying that it'd be a mistake to say it was "done poorly".

Wow, that's an icky situation. So because they own the rights to the live-action TV version, a theatrical, animated release can't be brought over? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but oh well. XD Silly copyright laws!

Well, that is true, but Le Guin is just as to blame for this icky situation.
The problem has to do with contracts. Because Le Guin sign a contract that gave Sci-fi rights to her book to be made into a movie, it means that if Tales From EarthSea anime movie came out over here, Sci Fi could sue them for breaking the contract that they have on the rights to it.
This is one of the reasons why Hayao Miyazaki didn't want his son, Goro to do the movie.
There could have been a Tales From EarthSea anime movie back in the 70's but no! Le Guin just had to tell Hayao Miyazaki no back then and Hayao never look back since then.

Didn't Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle get full releases nation-wide? They were at every theatre here in SoCali.

PHEEEEEEEEW... thank you all for your help. Yes... I read on a site somewhere that if it ever came out in the U.S. it would be like 2009. So I didn't miss it. I'm still a dignified otaku!! YESSSS!! Is there a sub version out?
I heard the author didn't like the movie. Heard all about the family feud heating up between the two Miyazaki's two! YIPES! Goro's production diary on nausicaa.net really trashes his father.

Le Guin is a pooh, she is a very hard to make her happy with anything.
She is not happy with the Live Action film and the anime movie for that matter.

I can kinda see that... I mean, think about it: you write your own story it and visualize it as so. Then people are like "yeah I think we can make out own interpretation on it" but how it's seen and how the characters act, just isn't the same... From a different person's view they might think "oh wow they're adapting my book! I wonder just how they invision it..." This is why I think thigns work out SO well, when the author comes to actually help create the movie (think Harry Potter). So yeah... if you think of it from a different perspective...

Yeah, that is true and I do agree that it does help if you have the person that wrote the book on staff, when making a movie of that book.
But they say, she's a hard to please writer for that matter.
I think this is why she told Hayao Miyazaki no back in the 70's and he was the one to come to her and wanted to do the movie.
But I guess, over time. She wasn't making anymore money on her book, so she sign a deal for Sci-fi to make a LA movie and then she turns around says that she didn't like it and she even picky one small things that was in the movie. After that, she lets Japan make anime movie and she turns around and says that she didn't like it too, but she did give Goro some slack about it.
Still, if she didn't like the LA movie, then why go and let them make anime out of it?
