Rune Soldier

I'd like to hear some opinions on Rune Soldier. The idea of a swords-and-sorcery fantasy comedy appeals to me (yes, I intend to check out Slayers at some point), and I'm a big fan of Record of Lodoss War. The episode or two I watched in YouTube was enjoyable enough. Everything's leading me to persue getting a hold of this series.
Here's the first problem.
For some reason beyond my comprehension, Netflix has only discs 5 and 6. The local video rental stores, needless to say, don't have it.
Here's the second problem...sort of.
The thinpack collection is available at ridiculously cheap prices. Like suspiciously cheap prices. Cheap enough that I start to wonder if the series is actually really awful and retailers don't consider it worth more than the $25-range prices I've seen.
Maybe it's just very unpopular for some reason?
I've bought series on blind faith before and it turned out OK. I had less information on Nadesico when I bought the whole shebang then I do about Rune Soldier now, and that turned out way better than OK. If not, I didn't lose that much money on the gamble. Should I go for it?

I think that it's only cheap, cause it's one of ADV's older series, and nothing too more than that. Seems that it's only the newer series that have VERY HIGH popularity (DN Angel... Evangelion... etc) that come at higher, more regular prices, because they know that they can sell well at that price.
The series... is something else^^ Moreso it's fantasy/comedy, like Slayers, expect don't expect much of a plot out of it^^ Watched my friend's thinpack of it and she wasn't lyign when she said "Yeah, the only eps with a plot is the first couple eps, and the last couple eps" and pretty much everythign in between is filler, in the sense that everything is one big adventure, going... not much anywhere^^
It was an alright series, if you want something just laid-back and fun to watch.

The thin pak is 29.99 around here. And I got a laugh out of it but the series has quite a bit of sexual humour. Though i have only seen eps1-5i I did enjoy it.

From what I remember, I think it was only at the beginning of the series... dunno, can't remember half the stuff I watch over a year ago^^

Sounds like a pretty typical price for a thinpak release to me.
You can't find the regular DVD's because they've been out of print for quite a while now, so you don't have a whole lot of choice. The thinpak does not have the extras that were available on the regular DVD's, but I don't think you are missing much there.
At any rate, I enjoyed the series and think it's worth $25 if you like fantasy comedies.

Didn't it have quite a few extras on it? I'm sure it had everything the orginal DVDs would've had. At least... the copy I watched did.

It's one of the few thinpaks that ADV put out with the extras intact.

Well, then. I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification.

ADV's prices for some of the newer thinpacks of their website are about $90. I payed about $60-70 for my
Full Metal Panic! thinpack at a con as I recall and thought I had gotten a pretty decent deal.
Well, thanks for the opinions, people, I'll probably make the leap.

all I can say is "Louie PUNCH!!!!" hahahahahaha
it was funny but not worth a lot of money, go for the cheapest deal, renting, or whatever but I wouldn't buy it unless it was cheap
