Anyone seen Shana (Shakugan no Shana) yet? If so what do you think?
Anyone planning on checking it out when it comes out in early September?
I saw an article about it in NTUSA, and was intrigued. It looks interesting, I like the character designs, especially Shana, who looks very cool. Plus, I noticed in the NT article it mentioned that it is directed by Takashi Watanabe, who did Slayers, my favorite anime of all time.
For those who know of it, would you recommend it? I'm considering buying it.

Sounds like it could either be really cool or be another run of the mill story...I hope that it's the first.

I saw the first episode, and I really enjoyed it. Confusing, yes. But it had good art too~ So. I'm just waiting for Yeito to download the rest.

Yeah, it looks promising, I hope it's cool and not run of the mill as well. I'll look forward to your thoughts once you watch it Rev. Doc.
I don't mind a story that starts out a bit confusing, as long as things begin to come together. Complexity at the beginning can lead to intrigue down the road. But I agree, Kami, the art looks great!

Hmm, interesting. In other (obviously secular) anime fandom circles, fanboyism of Shana reach near-pedophilia.
That's one reason I have had trouble getting into it.

Unfortuante as those types of things are, all fans react differently to a series. I believe you are mature and not disturbed enough to view an anime like that, so be your own judge. Leave the creepy fans be and try not to associate yourselves with them and you'll be fine.

I just got done watching volume 1 of Shana. I have to say for the most part it's a very interesting series. There's a good development of characters in the relationship between Shana and Yuji. Also, culminating in episode 3 we have a focus of putting the needs of those around us above our own. Animation is really good and music very fitting especially in the action sequences. By the end of episode 3 there had been absolutely no language issues or fanservice. I truly thought that this just might be a clean series in regard to that. However, I think the producers noticed the same thing. In episode 4 they pulled out all the stops in both of those areas. Characters began swearing more and there was a whole sequence of the episode focusing on Shana undressing. For the most part no total nudity, however she spends a good part of that time in her undergarments with various camera angles. I realize it centers on a part of their relationship with one another, but it seems that from the way it was portrayed it definitely was done for fanservice.
One other issue some might have in episode 4, a rival of Shana is seeking out her location. She envokes the names of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John from a mystic book she possesses to help her in the search.
Overall a good premise involved in this title. We will just have to see where they go with it from here.

Thanks a bunch for the review, Rev. Doc. It sounds like something I'd like to check out, and the drawbacks don't sound like something that would challenge my faith, personally. Obviously, everyone can go where the Spirit guides them on this, but I will try to post my opinion after watching the first volume. It's too bad they felt they had to put the fanservice and swearing in, sounds like the series was developing nicely without it. You said you got it in the mail, Rev. Doc. Is it just available via order or do you know if it's in stores yet?

The street date is September 5th, two weeks still. I got my copy from Right Stuf International. I generally get my shipments one to two weeks ahead of the street from them. I'm sure some other internet companies do the same. Some retailers like Best Buy have a tendency to put their stock out one to two weeks early. You might try them if you have one in the area.

Thanks! I have a Best Buy in town where I get almost all my anime. I'll have to pay them a visit here soon, they're getting to know me pretty well.
