Just a heads up that some Dollar General stores are now selling dirt cheap anime DVDs from Bandai. They aren't in every store (one in my town had them; a couple other nearby stores did not), and their selection's kind of thin, but it's worth checking out.
I was able to get Vol. 1 of Big O II and Meltylancer and Vol. 3 of Witch Hunter Robin for $3 a pop. They also had some Jubei-Chan, G Gundam, and a few other titles in the store.

I haven't went to Family Dollar yet, but I just came back from Big Lots, and "Kind of thin" is the biggest understatement of the century! All I saw was G Gundam (ACK!:bang: ), Lupin the 3rd (Meh. Not something I would invest in... ), and Argentsoma (Absolutely can't stand!) . Hardly what I call choice picks. But this is Louisiana: we're not really known as an "anime mecha" or anything. But maybe Family Dollar will have something different...I'll report later!

There were a few titles in our closest Family Dollar store as well, but nothing I wanted. Might bear following up on from time to time.

Update!
Yesterday, I checked Family Dollar out and was both suprised and VERY dissapointed!
I was suprised because I actually found Playstation games (Original Playstation, no stinkin' PS2) for a good price. If I still had my Playstation hooked up, I would have probably bought one.
The DISSAPOINTMENT came in when I checked out their anime collection--the only thing I found was...::shudders deeply:: BEYBLADE...I really REALLY HATE Beyblade! What's worse, it's on VHS! No anime DVD's here. I'll check another Dollar General next Saturday...but my hopes aren't set too high.

the dollar stores near me don't sell any anime. all they sell are those old black and white TV shows (mainly westerns) that my dad used to watch.

I'll have to check out some dollar stores around my city... I live in a pretty big area so I'm bound to find some anime somewhere. Maybe this can be my "Last day of Summer" project. XD

For the record, I was referring to Dollar General, which is a separate chain from Family Dollar. (I'm not trying to be a smart butt; I just didn't want anyone to go to the wrong store and get discouraged.
) However, I am interested now in seeing if any nearby Family Dollars have any good anime offerings.
I've looked a little bit in the local Big Lots as well. Haven't seen much, but I didn't really go expecting much. I'm actually planning to go there this evening (Big Lots is an awesome place to get nice but inexpensive greeting cards for family birthdays, BTW), so I may check it out a little more closely.
Another place I've found some nice anime deals is a local flea market, if you don't mind pre-viewed titles (I'd say clean them up really well
). This past weekend I bought 3 volumes of Nadesico on VHS for a little over $10. Another booth had the full thinpak collection of Noir for $35, and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie for $5; I didn't buy those because I was a little short on cash, but I plan to head back this Saturday in hopes that they're still there.
One word of caution with flea markets: Sometimes vendors try to sell off bootlegs. So check out the merch before you buy.

I did get to check out my local Big Lots the other evening. They also had a few Bandai titles for about $4 each... a couple volumes of Kikaider, one of Scrapped Princess, and a couple others. I didn't buy anything this time, but I'm interested in keeping an eye on what they bring in.

Before everyone gets really excited about this, there are a few things you need to know about Dollar General. They don't sell much of anything overt the $35 range. They don't have individule inventories to keep track of (it's all done back at the company headquarters in Tennessee). This company buys up "bargain assets" usually left over when someone else has a warehouse full of stuff they have to dump or goes out of business. You're not likely going to find the same thing two months in a row (Laudon, 2006).
Someone, somewhere had some anime when they went out of business and DG bought the assets. You're getting a good deal on that, but don't expect them to have much the next time you go back.

Mou >_< You Americans and your lucky deals (and better prices, even though the conversion gap between us Canadians and you guys are practically the same now). The best deals I've seen, was at Walmart, when they had GENEON titles (the most expensive ones^^) priced at 8.99! Picked up Haibane vol. 2 and 4... sadly enough, they only had odd volumes liek that for their series v_v Mostly ABe stuff and whatnot... cept think they had 3/4 Lains, but never did get them.
