I tend to be a bargain shopper. So when I can find titles I like for dirt cheap, I often try to grab them. For my own list (I've seen all of these at pretty good prices), I'd say...

Case Closed
Big O
RahXephon
Happy Lesson
Noir (possibly down the road, though I did get a chance to watch most of it previously)
Full Metal Panic (ditto)

Let's see...

* Full Moon wo Sagashite (entire series)
* Utawarerumono (when it's released, I'll be buying select discs)
* Sailor Moon (Classic and R. Someday, though I doubt it'll ever happen. XD)
* Castle in the Sky
* Haibane Renmei (entire series)
* Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch (if the anime is ever licensed, I would buy most
discs)
* Air (if it were licensed; entire series)
* Tsubasa Chronicle (when it's released, I'll buy the first few discs)
* Azumanga Daioh (entire series)

That's all I can think of for now, and of course, I didn't include anything that wasn't already in my own collection (the reason why Bebop and Ruroken aren't there). :thumb:

I still have yet to find The Bush Baby in English (not just in Japanese), and I'm still waiting for Hamtaro seasons 1 and 2 to come out in boxsets. Those are must-haves on my list, if they ever come out. ^_^

I think it has to do with the subtext.That aside it's a pretty good title,I've read volume 1 and 3 of the manga and makes me want to watch the anime and get more of the manga. :thumb:

I actually haven't seen about half of the anime mentioned. ^^;; I feel so excluded that I haven't seen some of the "Must Own"'s.

Here's my list:
Cowboy Bebop
Azumanga Daioh
FLCL

It's only three, but those are the only anime that I think are extremely well-made practically anyone can enjoy watching them over and over again (not true for everyone, just most IMO).

Because as ML said the subtext. But its best not to mention it for the sake of the mods. If you have questions I am sure you could send a PM to the mods and ask.

annnnnmyways

Elfen Lied (but only for those who can handle the Nudity and graphic violence. Still a very good series)
Ghost in the Shell: SOC
Cowboy Bebop
Fruits Basket
Akira
(new) Appleseed
Steamboy

There's a lot of anime out there that is excellent and worthy of viewing - there are probably over 2 dozen titles I would consider a "favorite" of mine. But simply listing my favorites doesn't do anyone else much good since a lot of that depends upon what genres you like to watch. If you are into romantic comedies, then Last Exile, although a truly excellent show, is probably not for you.

When some asks for a "must watch" list, I usually try to stick a few titles that cover a wide range of anime genres. Kind of a "best example of what anime has to offer" list. With that in mind, I recommend the following titles to anyone who wants to drink from the anime well, but doesn't know where to draw from. Watch these titles and then watch more like the ones you liked the most:

Spirited Away - forgive me Nausicaä, but probably the best of Miyazaki's movies.

Ranma 1/2 - OK this is a long series, hardly one to simply "try out" unless you are just renting or know someone who's collected it. But this is one of the very best (shonen / boy targeted) romantic comedies on the market and contains a good bit of action as well.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor - Best space epic outside of Legends of Galactic Heroes, which has not been released in the US. It's also a bit of a parody of space epics like Gundam or Macross. You can't beat a combo like that.

Fushigi Yugi - A very typical fantasy story and an excellent example of a (shojo / girl targeted) romantic series. If teenaged angst is not your thing, substitute CLAMP'S Magic Knight Rayearth here for another very good taste of the fantasy genre. Marmalade Boy is an excellent example of shojo romance with out the fantasy stuff.

Azumanga Daioh – There is simply no better example of a “slice of lifeâ€

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Why: It's Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. 'Nuff said. Great characters, great story, sweet romantic subplot [what? <_<], and I love the art.

Rurouni Kenshin
Why: Great characters, story [even some of the filler is pretty good], and the art is pretty good, though the manga has it beat.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Why: Great characters, the story interests me, and I want to see how it deviates from the manga firsthand.

Cowboy Bebop
Why: It's supposed to be one of the greatest anime series EVAR, and I like what I've seen.

Case Closed
Why: I love the mange very much. It's not the deepest of storylines, but it's good stuff.

Gankutsuou
Why: The art is bleeding GORGEOUS. And the story interests me.

Naruto
Why: The manga caught my eye [plus Rii-chan pseudo-recommended it to me]. That and Rock Lee. I swear, Rock Lee should have been the main character instead of that Uzumaki kid. But that's another rant for another day.

DNAngel
I HEART DNANGEL. 'Tis fun. The manga is lots of fun, mostly due to the characters. Also, I like what I've seen of the anime.
