SaveOnePiece.com wrote: "4Kids Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: KDE - News) today announced the formation of a new subsidiary, 4sight licensing solutions, inc., to specialize in the marketing and licensing of brands geared primarily to adults, teens and "tweens."
Headquartered in 4Kids Entertainment's New York offices, 4sight licensing solutions will focus on brand building through targeted licensing and promotional activities. 4sight will take the lead in the branding efforts for existing brands that 4Kids currently represents, such as the Royal Air Force, the American Kennel Club and the Cat Fanciers' Association. Additional brands will be added to the 4sight stable with the ultimate goal of becoming a leader in the licensing and brand building of properties targeting an older demographic than what 4Kids currently specializes in.
"We have built an impressive roster of captivating and successful children's entertainment properties," said Alfred R. Kahn, Chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment. "Given the increased number of brands that we are representing that focus on an older audience, we felt it would be beneficial to organize a new subsidiary primarily devoted to the marketing and licensing of these brands. We believe that we can successfully utilize our marketing and licensing expertise to build brand value for properties targeting an older consumer that are not necessarily media or character driven."
So... instead of horrifically butchered anime, now we are being offered moderately less butchered anime? Sweet! <---------Sarcasm.

What I make of it, is that 4Sight will provide like...ads for these companies/organizations I guess. Like, you'll see an ad for the Cat Fanciers' Association that will be done by 4Sight, because that isn't media and it isn't character driven.
I
guess. Really, at this point, who knows?

I can't remember the last time something anime-related made so little sense to me. o.o

So, One Piece is gonna be less butchered?
-------
Just because it's set for an older audience in English translation, doesn't mean they have to stick a whole bunch of bad language in the English translation.

According to Al Kahn, 4Sight will NOT be redubbing or rereleasing old properties, so uncut Pokemon or One Piece will not happen.

Ditto.
I don't really know what all of this means, unless you're saying that 4Kids WILL actually have a "4Teens (Tweens? What the heck? XD)" entertainment section. If that's true...Then all unlicensed anime should run for the hills. Seriously. XD

So far, I'm not impressed.

My cabbit's breath smells like catfood... (cat fancier and anime combination is just... weird)
Um... So they plan on acquiring and americanizing anime made for OLDER audiences now? Ok, whoever has problems with ADV, Pioneer, or even Manga video should shut up now... Let's hope THEY get ahold of the stuff and not 4teens...

Old (OLD) news to me. And uh, no. From my understanding, we probably won't be seeing any anime done by them:
"While none of 4Kids's current anime property will be moved to 4Sight, Todd Fromer of KCSA publicity, representing 4Kids, has said that isn't necessarily ruled out of the 4Sight lineup, but that anime lends itself more to a children's market."
(Wiki article, but I've heard it elsewhere)
So no, no redubs anytime soon, unfortunately (like 4Kids ever listened to what the fans wanted, anyways). In fact, as I mentioned in another thread, they've actually (or will be) stopped licensing anime, saying they want to focus on their own properties or something. Kinda makes sense, seeing as One Piece is practically the only one making them any money anymore (ever since they lost Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh ended).

What? Anime lends itself more to a children's market? That old sophistry again? I thought we were over that, at least in the professional world...
So 4teens won't be touching anime? Good... If their belief that anime is only for kids is what drives this, then let them think that...

Anime totally is a children's market. I mean, Berserk, Dokuro-chan, Ninja Scroll, Akira...all of those are totally for like, six year olds! What self-respecting teenager or adult would possibly have interest in those series? They're all so childish!
Yeah. This is why 4Kids sucks. And should go away for all eternity.

For all their idiocy and butchery, they have gotten a lot of kids involved in anime. Everybody starts somewhere.

Oh, I know they've gotten a lot of kids into anime. The DiC Sailor Moon dub did that for me, even though it was absolutely horrendous. I'm not denying they've had an impact on the anime industry, but that doesn't make them good.
Horrible things can bring about good, but that doesn't make the horrible things good themselves.

4Kids isn't "update-to-date" with those kinds of mindsets.
I mean, come on. They used the phrase "It'll be a gas" in one of their dubs... >_>

What he said, but insert OP and many of their previous titles instead instead (namely "Shaman King").

heh it's pretty funny how you guys get all worked up over this company...just don't give em your patronage. if they don't deserve it, than don't give it to them.
plain and simple.

I don't. The problem is keeping the kids from doing that. -.-

*sighs* lets just hope ADV and Bandai get ahold of all the really good anime so it avoids massive butchering

Well, in theory, that's a good idea. But see, the thing is, if they were to license and butcher your favorite series (let's say you watched it via the internet before it was licensed), then you're pretty much stuck with an awful dub and no way to purchase the subbed version. Just wanted to point that out.

You know what I bet happened?
It was Myoti who put forth the very likely theory that 4Kids liscensed One Piece by mistake, thinking it was a kids series, but found out otherwise. Previously, they had been operating under the ignorance that 'all cartoons are for kids', but when the got One Piece, they actually began to realize otherwise.
But, this is more of a weapon against us!
They saw that anime had a potentially larger audience than previously thought, and suddenly they have a whole new world of anime to destroy!
I mean, they gave the navy officers water guns in the One Piece dub. Do you really think they are going to treat 4Teens liscensed anime any different?
Can you imagine what it would have been like if such classics such as Gundam Wing, Escaflowne, Rurouni Kenshin, Ranma, ect. had been done by 4Teens? This is the kind of danger we are in now.
And we all know Khan is a liar when it comes to the probability of ever seeing their turds in uncut form.

I really didn't see this one coming... I'm now wondering what anime will be their first victim....I mean liscense... ...

I say again, the odds are unlikely that they WILL do anymore anime.
They honestly seem to think it's for kids (or don't care), so I don't see anymore anime being done (don't forget they also seem to be unbeliavebly xenophobic >_> ).

Can they obtain anime that is already licensed, but by another company?
I only say this because Dragon Ball Z was dubbed my multible companies, so what if they got like Full Metal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop (less likely)? *shudders*

Would it even matter since it's already been dubbed?
