As I live in a small town I can say for certain that there are very few. My daughter says that there's a girl or two that she knows of (besides herself) that read manga. And there are not anime clubs (even in the local university) that I am aware of.

I know a few. None that would go near my church, of course.

Well, my two best friends are anime fans. My other two best friends are warming up to the idea of anime, but they haven't seen much past the shows that come on AS. I did introduce one of my friends to Full Moon wo Sagashite recently. :D Other than that, though, nope, not really any anime fans where I live. XD

I'm fairly fortunate when it comes to this regard. While both my home and college have a few otaku, there are a great many more people that simply enjoy an anime or two but aren't fanatics. Or, in some cases, I have friends who accept anime as a genre, if not one they are particularly interested in, and are willing to check out new series.

Tucson, AZ here and I think there are many. There are clubs in the colleges too but I have little contact with any. I just have one or two friends who are into anime. I've managed to introduce it to the people I stay with though, and my best friend. I love that she and I can sit together and enjoy shows like that. The same things inspire us.

Actually, either than little kids and stuff in this town, quite a few I know of. Met a few friends in my Japanese class back in high school (heh, where else?) as well as others there that I know is into it... Japanese class: like the net, where a majority of fans come to learn^^

I have alot of friends actually....now that I think about it.

One is Dunedan who is a member here. I got him into alot of the series and we will watch Love Hina, RahXephon, FLCL when we get together and stuff.

I have another friend who is a huge Rurouni Kenshin, Last Exile, and Cowboy Bebop fan but that's basically it. We took Japanese together but he's transferring to a larger college. His brother likes Bobobobobo.

I have another friend who is VERY much like me when it comes down to romantic comedies such as Love Hina, Chobits, Negima, Onegai Teacher, DearS, etc etc.

I have another friend who is into cyberpunk series and another who is a big Cowboy Bebop and Rurouni Kenshin fan. I was able to get him into Last Exile and RahXephon.

Our Japanese class was kinda wierd. We all liked anime in some sort or another however at different levels. I was pretty passive at my liking of anime however my friend (who likes Kenshin) didn't want to be clomped with everyone who wanted to learn Japanese so they can know what they are saying in their anime.

There were some who practically breathed anime with all the aparallel and cosplayed on Halloween and such. Sadly, these people were the least dedicated to thier studies and didn't do so well save for a few. Most of the class fell around my area where they liked it but they didn't live it.

And then a few didn't watch it at all.

In Southern California, judging by the amount of anime/manag available everywhere, I'd say I'm surrounded by anime-loving people! ...I just don't actually know any of them...

Anime is really popular in my area, it seems, so there are a LOT of anime fans in my proximity. One of them founded this site, actually. ;)

From what I hear, So-Cal is supposed to be the most prominent location for anime and anime fans. Don't really know the reason for that, but it seems that in the San Diego area, anime/manga is very easy to find.

Yeah, the book stores around here have offer more manga than American comics!

Well I live in the Washington/Baltimore area (I am in the Southern Maryland part of it) and I was part of a well going anime club awhile back until the community college where we met everyother Sunday told the club we couldn't meet there anymore because we didn't have any new members from the college as part of our club.
Our leader told us we were disbanding because we didn't have anywhere else to meet with the setup the college had and alot of our group became dissatisfied with other members and tried to go on their own at one of the other members home.
I try to keep in contact with some of the group by email those who will answer.
Acourse Otakon is coming up and if you have attended this con you will see how big anime is in this area. They had to obtain another building near the convention center for cosplay this year and I would guess other activities.
I will be attending and sharing a hotel room with one of the members of my old club who many of the club said was the SUPER FAN BOY. The type that would know everything going on and would be highly upset if something wasn't right or the way he wanted it to be.

I honestly wouldn't know. I don't live in that big of a town and I'm an introvert, but there are a few places to buy anime in my town and I occasionally see someone there besides me.

There are a handful of anime fans at my job--About 4 or 5. There may be more, but they may be secret otaku, or just those who haven't ventured beyond "DragonBall Z."

I know for a fact there's another anime fan here in this forum from my hometown (::coughs:: Eastkun! ::coughs::), but that's about it. Louisiana is a pretty dry when it comes to anime. You don't have many options to buy it--you could hunt around video game stores, the public library, or the major chain stores like Best Buy or "Sam Goode."

I tried to join a fanclub recentley, but all the kids there were the super obsessive fangirl types. You know the kind, the "I MUST have all the collectors postcards! I MUST make the greatest AMV! I MUST write the best fanfiction!!" girls. I'm not like that, and they kind of alienated me si I left. No one was very friendly either. Probably because they were all "social outcasts". Anime isn't very popular here in Hawaii, and usually the peaople that watch anime outside of what's on Cartoon network are geeks (not the kind that bite off chiken heads at carnivals!) and nerds, like myself.

My anime lover friends(who are mostly guys) gave me my obsession with anime. They got me into it, and I'm fairly addicted(at least to Miyazaki stuff anyways). There's not too many of us who are into anime around here, but that's ok. We're geeks and we like it that way.
