Need some advice on which animes to pick!

Postby Shuji » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:01 pm

My birthdays coming up and Im having a tough time choosing which animes to get. Ive narrowed it down to 3 but out of these 3 i can probably only get 2. The ones ive looked into are as follows; Last Exile, Berserk, and lastly Haibane Renmei. Which of these 2 would you think are good choices. (Violence etc etc does not bother me in the least).

Last Exile and Haibane Renmei are the two I would choose from your list.

Last Exile looks cool.

Last Exile was definitely a good series. You should give it a try.

(I hear fantastic things about Haibane Renmei, but since I haven't seen it myself, I can't suggest it.)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Of the three, I've only seen Haibane Renmei, but it is the single best anime I've ever seen and my favorite. Last Exile is on my to-see list.

Last Exile is excellent. There is a little mild language and some violence, but not heaps (actually there are only one or two episodes that could be considered violent at all).

eeek! Hard choice! Haibane Renmei and Last exile are awesome!

Last exile is 26 episodes while Haibane renemei is only 13....so HR is probably cheaper but you get more with your money for LE.

if i were to choose between last exile and haibane renmei, then i'd choose last exile, mainly because the plot sounds much more interesting. berserk, at least for me, is out of the question. but you might want to check out the anime review.

I've only recently started watching Haibane Renmei, but it's been good so far. Other than that, though, I can't reccommend much, since I haven't seen the other two you mentioned.

I enjoyed both Berserk and Last Exile alot. But of the two, I think I liked Last Exile more.

Last Exile is the only one of those three that I've seen, and I thought it was pretty good, so that's the one I'm suggesting. I don't really know enough about the other 2 series to have an opinion on them.

Having finished Haibane Renmei, I have to reccommend it. XD It's not action-packed or anything, and is mostly character driven, but it's a really wonderful series! I highly reccommend it!

If you like spunky teenaged female lead characters in space operas then check out
Geneshaft.Mika's one of the spunkiest characters in anime plus she's played in the dub by Amanda Winn Lee.

From your list I would choose Last Exile and Haibane Renmei. I would avoid Berserk. I've said it in other places, but the last episode is the most evil thing I've seen in anime (and I've seen Ninja Ressurection :o )

And I always have to plug Now and Then, Here and There, which is getting to be pretty cheap to pick up, as it's been out for a number of years.

One of the things you may want to do is to go to your local video or book store to check out what titles are in fact avaible not all stores will have the same titles.
