characters you changed your mind about

One thing I love about anime is that many characters aren't static. They often grow and change throughout the events of the story.
Are there any characters that you once liked, but now you don't, or vice versa?
I used to not like Rin on Inuyasha, because I didn't understand why she followed Sesshomaru around. Now, however, I like her because she's helped me understand him and she's slowly changing him.
I also used to like Hajime in the Please Save My Earth manga because even though he was kind of an annoying little brother, he means well. Now that he's prying in Alice's private life just because he doesn't like Rin, he's earned my dislike. What's even worse is that now he's even involved one of her schoolmates!

When Kuno first appeared in the Ranma 1/2 anime he was a very competent rival to Ranma. However, over time he became more and more incompetent and more comic relief. I didn't care for him much as the series closed out.

Oh, I've got several of these. XD

Once, I REALLY didn't like Meroko, from FMWS. I mean, around the middle of the series somewhere, I just really started to dislike her because of the things she was doing. But by the end of the series, she had become my second favorite character. XD I think she's fantastic, now! XD

There was also a point where I really hated Takani Megumi, from Rurouni Kenshin. She just grinded on my nerves from the very beginning! XD However, once the series reached the close of the Kyoto Arc, I didn't mind her so much anymore, and I'd even venture to say that I started to like her as a character.

I really didn't like Haruko from Air very much when I first started watching the series. But, once again, later on, I really liked her as a character, and thought she played a very human and very moving role in the end.

A character that I once went back and forth in liking and disliking is Hino Rei/Sailor Mars, from Sailor Moon. XD At first, I thought she was really cool, but particularly annoying at times. But by the end of the first season, she was my very favorite Sailor Moon character.

Another character (what is this, number five? XD) would be Wolfwood, of Trigun. I wasn't exactly sure just what to think of him at first, but by the end of the series, I decided that I did like him as a character. :)

The sixth character I'll mention is Madoka Wakamatsu, from FMWS. At first, she was annoying and snobby, but after a while, she didn't bother me as much, and I began to like her as a character.

The last character that I'll mention is Izumi, also from FMWS. I didn't much like Izu-kun when he first showed up, but now he's my third favorite character in that series (just behind Takuto and Meroko :D).

So there you have it. Dynamic characters are just plain interesting. XD Granted, there are a lot of dynamic characters that I didn't mention, simply because I liked them from start to finish, and since this is the thread for "Characters You Changed Your Mind About," I'll leave it at that for now. XD

Sure, I've got a few.

Rumbling Hearts / Kimi ga Nozomu Eien -- Mitsuki Hayase

Initially, I liked her. Then I hated her. Then as the series closed, and was able to empathize with her, but still hated her. Since my original viewing, I've rewatched the series 13 times, and I don't hate her anymore. She's not really a favorite by any means though.

Aishiteruze Baby -- Marika, Miki and Kippei's sister

Hated all of them initially, but grew to like them as the series progressed.

I My Me! Strawberry Eggs -- Akira Fukae

I hated Fukae at the beginning of the series, but the events in the last couple episodes really changed my opinions of him.

ROD TV -- Hisami

Didn't like her at the start of the series. Liked her at the end of the series.

Rozen Maiden -- Hina Ichigo, Shinku, Jun

I really liked Hina Ichigo when the series began, but as the series progressed, I found myself wanting her to disappear. Shinku and Jun I initially hated, but grew to like a lot.

Kaleido Star -- Layla Hamilton

I think probably everyone hates Layla initially, but I grew to like her.

I really really disliked Minamoto no Raikou (tactics) at first. In the anime he was crazed and ruthless to the point that even I hated him for it. Then I got around to translating my manga and found out he could be crazy and bloodthirsty one moment and smiling and friendly the next, and now I love him.

Jyou from Digimon. He really bugged me at first, but now I think he's really cool.

I also liked Scar in FMA. That is, right up until
he created the Philosopher's Stone
.
And I really hated Flay in Gundam SeeD. Then she got kidnapped by LaCruset and I saw a different side of her. One I liked. That even made me want her to survive, especially since she was beginning to see the error of her ways.

I didn't so much hate Flay as was totally noncommital about her at first until I got hold of the first volume of the SEED manga and read in the back about her being the most human of the characters and that changed my mind about her.I also kind of thought Natarle was a bit too rigid but when she was commanding the Dominion and was acting as Flay's mentor that changed my mind about her.For people who still hate either Flay or Natarle I challenge you to watch the scene on the Dominion where Flay breaks down and Natarle comforts her and later when the Blue Earth rep.tries to shoot Flay and Natarle gets in the way and see if that doesn't change your mind about them.

I liked Ami Mizuno from BSSM quite a bit, but after a while she fell out of favor with me. Mostly because I did not identify with her like I used to. That's where Rei came in.

However, from dislike to like was Chiaki from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. At first, a real jerk...kinda of a mirror of what I was like before God got a hold of me (in HS). But, as time went along, he became a character I liked (not as much as Marron/Jeanne, and not less that Fin).
