Haibane Renmei is about angels, although I haven't seen it. It's supposed to be quite good though, and is on my to-see list. Maybe someone else here could tell you more about it.

Do you want angels that are actually christian in philosophy? Good luck.

Almost every anime ever created featuring angels has an incorrect or skewed philosophic basis. I've never seen anything remotely close (though I haven't look extensively).

Other options:

If you're into manga, get Archangels: The Saga. It isn't exactly manga, but it's close enough and also very Christian.

If you're into reading (that's a stretch): read my The Fall series. Yes, that was a plug.

You could say the same about most movies nowadays too.

I don't know much about it steel angel kurumi, but my cousin watched it and I know enough about it to know that it is not really about angels. o_O

Japanese titles seem to overuse the word 'angel.' Or it could be that they have a different concept of an angel than most americans would. I notice alot of titles with the word 'tenshi' that has absolutely nothing to do about angels, but maybe has one or more girls who is/are extraordinary in some way, or is/are just incredibly cute (like an angel) or something.

The latter. But for that matter, Americans (by large) have a pretty skewed concept of "angel" as well.

Haibane Renmei! Haibane Renmei! *Bounces*

I've only actually seen the first 4 episodes thus far, but I've read summaries online... beautiful story of mystery and redemption. The "angels" in it, though, are not angels in the traditional sense...

The Haibane are a unique form of life... young people who were probably once human who are reborn as Haibane.. they grow little flightless wings and are given halos. They are like angels in appearance, of course... and in a sense, are rather like angels in that the humans of their town consider them very special - but they aren't really angels from Heaven.

Haibane have a number of rules they have to follow, and they must be "good Haibane"... being a good Haibane includes serving others - all Haibane must work, for instance. There's a big thing later in the anime, I think, about sin and forgiveness specifically in the character of Reki. The anime seems to be mostly about individuals finding themselves and their place in life.

It's not a Christian anime, but it seems to have a lot of wonderful values in it, and a lot more palitable view of angelic like beings than most other animes and even American movies these days, though you do gotta forgive Reki for her smoking habit, and accpet that the Haibane are really... kind of just special people/beings, and not meant to be actual angels.

Somewhere in the anime... I think the 5th episode.. kind of explains or hints that the Haibane were a stray thought that escaped the mind of God. It's all pretty intersting, and though it's not a specifically Christian anime, it's a good "angel anime" with an overall good message and good tone (though wistful, sad)... and could be what you're looking for if you don't want an anime that messes with angels in a bad way, like NGE or Angel Sanctuary.

(Note: I've seen NGE, and, despite the skewering of Judeo-Christian imagery, I liked it as a piece of intersting science fiction. I have NOT, however, seen Angel Sanctuary, only have heard and read about it, but it is something that I am avoiding beause I think I'd find it really offensive).

I've read both works, liked them both. In our society, I'll take what I can get, minor theological issues aside. I'd like to see them made into an anime, but... that's mainly wishful thinking.

If you want Angels fighting Demons and all that, read mine and UC stories. That is really the point of both of our stories. If you want angels on a more real basis read UCs. Mine is more fantasy being that my angels are on the same plane of existance as humans. Which ever you like is fine. My story is called Meledriel and UCs is called The Fall.

Note: This is not a plug... at least I did not mean it that way. I just found that post to be highly ironic.

It's pretty kind of Lochaber Axe to include me too. Listen to him, though, if you are literarily inclined, the stories might do you some good. Just to promote him, Meledriel is (at this point) shorter and easier to read.

I have not heard of any anime called either Angel's tail or Angel's egg.

However, there is an anime and a manga called Saint Tail about a modern-day Robin Hood-esqe girl-thief who helps people by stealing back items, using slieght-of-hand magic tricks to evade persuers.

Angelic Layer is about a girl who gets into a popular game that uses toy robot-dolls called Angels to fight each other in a arena. It's pretty good.

Aside from a few "Christian" terms here and there, neither of the above titles really have anything to do with what you're describing.

Haibane Renmei

I recently finished watching Haibane Renmei and it was incredible. Yoshitoshi Abe makes it very clear through interviews and things like that, that he wasn't drawing angels and they are simply "Haibane." But the anime does have some Christian themes in it if you read between the lines. A little bit of a warning though, it is pretty sad at times... bring tissues.

Yeah, I was wondering this at one time too . . .this is what I found:
Ah My Goddess! (Aa Megamisama! in Japan) is a good one . . . I love it and the angels are beautiful. They show more of the angels in the manga and movie though than in the OAVs. Check it out, you won't be dissapointed!

I will say..... avoid Earthian. It's not objectionable, just cheesy :-p

while we're talking reading..... for a very different, awe-inspiring and cosmic view of Angels and the War in Heaven, read C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra and That Hideous Strength). The Eldila of the Deep Heaven are by far my favorite literary depiction of angels, and these books made me long for Eden.....

Since we're on the topic of angels, can someone tell me about the anime called X/1999? I've heard very little about it, but from the things I have heard, it seems like one to stay away from. I just don't know. Can someone enlighten me?

I would say that depends largely upon your personal convictions. Most of my experience comes from the manga, but I can tell you this much: the anime is needlessly, needlessly gory. To the point of stupid, in my opinion. On the other hand, it does (at least it seems to) have a good story and workable action.

It's also one of the more action-oriented Clamp mangas. And it has wonderful art, but that's what you'd expect from Clamp...

Angelic layer is a good anime. I think it's made by CLAMP so the animation is pretty good. It's about a girl who plays angelic layer a game where people use dolls called angels to fight one another.
