CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

OK, I watched the first episode of this a month ago and (as some of you may recall me saying) loathed it. Nevertheless, I resolved not to write it off immediately. I missed the second episode while I was out of town, forgot the third, and was sort of "in and out" tonight.

So...could somebody kindly explain what was going on? Because to me, it looked like they attacked a military installation, engaged in an aerial mecha dogfight, and possibly killed a person when one of the "enemy" mecha blew up, all for the sake of...a chance for some really gnarly air-surfing?!

Is there some noble cause they're fighting for I missed? Please tell me there is.

No, I honestly want to know if I missed something. I don't want to believe it was actually as stupid as I outlined above.

I'm trying to give this show a fair chance. Really, I am. Could you perhaps help me out by answering my question?

Not much to say.

The main character joins this group of people (I missed the third episode, so I forget what they do) that ride those robots. They are flat broke and are searching for money and are trying to get a specific location.

The Shortcut was over a military base.

Gekko State are a group of rebels against the government/council of sages/military for reasons that are explained further on in the series, who spread the truth about th goverment thru their magazine RAY=OUT. as well as enjoy riding the waves, its a very sub-vulture style thing. Its a vvery good anime its worth giving it a chance.

Think of it as Blakes7 meets one of the Gundam series.

didnt know if this should be in a spoiler or not but i will go ahead and put it in one.

[spoiler] ok so in the beginning talho overheard renton professing his love to eureka when he thought noone was looking. Renton noticed her and begged her not to say anything. she said that she wouldnt say anything if he would do everything she wanted him to do. so anyways Gekko state got the money they needed..or at least enough to get them by so they went to some town to shop. Talho wanted a bracelet but Holland said they didnt have enough money. so the group split up and renton went w/ talho. So of course Talho made renton hold all of her bags,then they found this shop that had the bracelet she wanted in teh beginning of the episode but the sells lady said she had just sold the last one so Talho took renton to the local pub and she got drunk. Meanwhile holland and eureka were shopping for parts and after they were done holland said he forgot something and ran off into one of the shops. so back w/ renton and talho...she got drunk like i said and walked outside where these guys realized who she was and took a picture of her. She got mad b/c they took a pic of her when she was looking like crap so she started yelling at them and ended up breaking the guys camera. So then the guy got mad and grabbed her which got renton mad so he told the guy to let her go but he just smacked him down. so that went on for a bit until the guy tried to hold her down and rape her so renton got in someones robot (cant think of what they are called t the moment. lol) and tried to fight the other guy in his but wasnt doing to good. Talho started screaming and Holland and Eureka heard them so they ended up coming to the rescue. Holland grabed the guy on Talho by the nose and smashed his hand and Eureka fought w/ the other guy. so they beat them and Holland helped Talho up and she started walking until the third guy that everyone forgot about tried to stomp on her but Holland pushed her out of the way just in time but his presant got smashed in the process so he got really mad and ran up the side of the robot opened the hatch and beat the crap out of that guy saying something to the effect of "not ever in a 100 million years would Talho go out w/ a guy like you". while all of this happened Renton passed out and after all of this they show them going home and he wakes up in time to watch the sun fall. when they get back to the Gekko renton see's Talho and she has the smashed bracelet around her neck taht Holland had bought her. Then he goes into another room and starts talking to some ppl which is when he finds out that everyone already knew that he was in love w/ Eureka. [/spoiler]

so ya im not the best at telling what happened but thats it.

I assume this is an anime in which that manner of thing will be revealed slowly. I got the sense that there was plot to be developed, anyway. But I haven't seen it recently regardless.

Ureka 7 is so boring! i tryed watching it one night, but lost my attension span after a few minutes. I do not particularly favor mecha animes. (except gundam wing)
