School-themed Anime...

I was curious to know about the school-related, "slice of life" anime you have seen and enjoyed. I think most (if not all) of these titles are comedies, as such a place would normally make for good jokes.

Pani Poni Dash has to be my all time favorite. It is not only a school-driven comedy series, but a spoof on the genre itself. It's extremely funny as it is extremely fast-paced (not to mention the teacher being the youngest person in the classroom).

Azumanga Daioh and School Rumble would come to a very close second for me.

Eep. I forgot to mention Stellvia: it's more of a drama, but it definately qualifies as a "school" title.

There is a difference between "school" anime and "slice of life" anime. Slice of life anime is realistic, with no magic/un-explainable events/extreme/impossible situations. I don't like the genre much so the only series I can think of is Piano.

Otherwise, I agree with you that school animes can be great. :thumb: I love School Rumble, and Ouran High School Host Club. They are some of my favorite series. One you didn't mention (that I haven't seen yet) is Azumanga Daioh, I think that one is pretty popular with people here. ;)

Sometimes I've seen both "school" and slice-of-life in the same catagory, (Azumanga Daioh has usually been interpreted as slice-of-life even with all the craziness). But I guess it could go either way.

I don't think I've seen that many school-themed anime. @o@ I've seen some Azumanga Daioh though. 8D AD is great. xD

While a great many slice of life titles are indeed realistic, that's not always the case. Aria is considered slice of life and yet it is set on Mars in the future focusing on the daily lives of girls who are learning to be gondoliers.

I really enjoy a good slice of life series such as Victorian Romance Emma and the aforementioned Piano.

I would have to say School Rumble and Azumanga Daioh would have my vote.

Hmmm lemme think...

Well there's Fruit Basket and Shinigami no Ballad (unlicensed, but available on subs).

Despite the fact that they both that fantasy/other spirituality aspects, they both involve school quite a bit and are very slice-of-life.

Cromartie High School could probably go into the category--except for the fact that the student body includes a gorilla, a talking robot, and a guy who looks like Freddie Mercury from the band Queen. ;)

The only other title I've seen that I'd really put into the category is Azumanga. My first episode was an earlier one, and I didn't care that much for it (not that it was a bad show, just too girly for my tastes). But I saw some later episodes and liked them, so I'm thinking this might be one to revisit.

Stay away from Cromartie High. It's not funny.

Though I haven't completed them, Azumanga Daioh and GTO seem good.

Sorry, bro, but I have to disagree.

I think you have to have a certain sense of humor to find it funny, though. What that says about me, I don't know.

My all-time favorites in this genre would be School Rumble closely followed by Azumanga Daioh. Haven't finished Azumanga Daioh yet (neither School Rumble, actually, since there is a 2nd Term :P), though
