Favorite/Least Favorite Anime and Why
PostPosted: Thu Apr 13, 2006 6:09 pm

Same as manga only with anime.
Favorite: FullMetalAlchemist
I love the characters, I love the plot twists, I just love everything but the ending.
Least Favorite: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Never liked the whole "Use cards to save the world" concept.
Note: Guys, don`t argue about each others likes and dislikes.
A: I like this but hate this.
B: Well, i hate that and like that.
A and B: *FLAME WARS*
Guys, just don`t. I don`t want this thread locked.

I have a lot of favorites. Monster being my number one. The character's and plots and the genious mind of Urasawa Naoki is truely the best. Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, and Yakitate!! Japan are also up there. It is my theory that if someone gave Monster a change, they would see it to be a masterpeice. And so far my theory has stood corrected. Not once have I heard somebody watch Monster and dislike it.
My least favorite... that's actually kind of hard. Of the ones I have seen would be Futakoi. So utterly pointless.

MSP, I`ve been debating on getting into Bleach or Monster first.
I know the plot of Bleach, but nothing about Monster. Can you tell me the plot of Monster?

I have ALOT of favorites, but I'd say my ultimate one would be Haibane Renmei.
I also have many disslikes... *checks through my "discontinued anime" watching list* ...I'd have to say Angel Santuary (for some obvious reasons that I won't further mention, and also cause I couldn't figure what the heck was going on @_@) I was looking forward to an angel/demon battle series :/ ...still love some of the art pieces though.

Tom Dincht: Here is the review
http://www.christiananime.net/reviews.php?display=197
The anime is not licensed (The manga is, and the first two volumes are available from Viz Signature, which is a division of Viz that produces more older-people oriented stuff) But if you wanted to watch the series, you'd have to download fansubs.
Bleach is excellent as well, but they are two totally different genres.

Heee. Full Moon wo Sagashite is my definite favorite. Why...?
1. It's got an incredible storyline that just sucks you in. Plus, it's a love story. An absolutely fantastic love story.
2. It's got some of the most memorable characters I've seen in an anime or any other peice of entertainment. XD
3. It's got great plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat, down to the last episode.
4. It has lovely music.
5. It's got absolutely wonderful art.
6. I found the filler episodes entertaining...This is rare.
7. The characters never get too moody--That is, it's not a soap opera.
8. It surpassed Rurouni Kenshin as my favorite series. That's a big deal.
I'm sure there are more reasons...They'll come to mind eventually, I suppose. XD
Another favorite would be Air. Another fantastic series; it's not too long, has excellent animation, character development, music, and a fantastically drawn out plotline. I love. XD
Least favorite...?
Those crazy ones that come on CN all the time. Yu-ghi-o (oh come now, it's just plain silly! Not to mention horrible dubbing...), One Peice (don't like the art at all. I have a very hard time watching an anime if the art doesn't reach my standards. XD; ), and then Samurai Champloo. I have a strong dislike for rap and hip-hop, so the show definitely doesn't agree with me there. XD I also don't like the fanservicey and sexual elements I've come across while watching that show. Blah.
So yeah, there's mine. XD

Favorite: Haibane Renmei. Deeply spiritual, mysterious, sometimes dark, extremely thought-provoking.
Least Favorite (that I've actually completed): Nazca. Nonsensical, inconsistent, plodding, thank heavens there weren't a lot of episodes.

Full Moon is also my favorite. It may be technically shojo, but I think it does a great job of not just catering to one kind of audience. It has a little of everything. Except mecha.
Least favorite. Hmmm. I have to agree with RD on this one as well. I have to admit I have never seen the subbed version of One Piece, but the art style just doesn't appeal to me. The storyline sounds sood, so for people who enjoy that kind of artwork it's probably a great series. But that's just not my style.

hmmm i guess my favorite anime is trigun... i really liked wolfwood! i liked how vash was trying to save everyone else too, and always thinking of others. I also loved azumanga because it was soooo funny!!!
i dont really care for pokemon/yu gi oh/other mainstream long animes like that. i dunno i just never got into them, they're so long and poorly voice acted.

Favourite: depends.
Of all time, Giant Robo. Currently, Evangelion and RahXephon.
RahXephon is a cool series. I like the world they've created, and the characters. The "robots" are pretty nifty, too. Plus the music is nice, which is always a plus, along with BONES' pretty animation.
Least: Tough decision. Probably anything Ghost in the Shell. The series seems to think it's way better than it is.

I only saw the first movie, but I get what you mean.

Favorite: Magic Knight Rayearth. It was the very first series that I saw that led me to become an anime fan.
Least Favorite: Sister Princess. A pointless and shallow attempt at a harem show.

Favorite of all time is Rurouni Kenshin. There is nothing particularly thought provoking or deep about Rurouni Kenshin, but it's simply an enjoyable show. It's a lot of fun, especially once the Kyoto arc picks up, and that's what I want out of anime: fun.
Least favorite...Lost Universe. I couldn't get past episode two, it was so boring.

The subbed version of One Piece is my 2nd favorite series and it has a very great plot IMO and very interesting characters. I`ve read Volume 40+ of the manga and enjoyed every page.
I don`t see why an art style would throw someone completly off as to not giving the plot a chance (the character developement is what make the series gold). But anyways, your call.

Well, considering that anime is heavily dependent on the animation style, that could have a dramatic effect on whether someone enjoys something or not. If they think that it is ugly and hurts their eyes, then they probably won't continue to watch, know what I mean?

Yeah, sort of.
I was thrown off at the artstyle at first, too but then it grew on me and became oe of my favorite animes (shout out to Myoti).

Woot! Yes! ^_^
Sorry, I don't want to start a "Flame War" or anything, but I hear alot of people that seem to judge this series solely on the way it looks. If I always judged that way, I would have NEVER gotten into great series like Furuba and several of the Clamp series (I REALLY didn't like the style at first, but it grew on me).
Actually, I hated the way One Piece looked at first as well, but as I watched it and began to love the story, it just didn't matter anymore, and I saw it as a much better series than many people seem to think. ;D
Stick with it (the original or manga, though Xp ), and you may find you like it better than you think. Unique characters, great story, lots of good humor. What's not to love?
So yeah, that's my favorite, obviously. Now for my least...
Uh, one in particular (that I've seen) could be Wolf's Rain. I'll admit I've only seen the first five episodes (I may finish later, but I have no wanting to right now).
The art's fine, the story seems okay, but it's just... depressing, and now I hear it gets even more so later on? No thanks. I'm really tired of all these emo and depressing ones. If I watch something, I'd like to be
entertained, please, not depressed.
I also finally saw InuYasha awhile back, and I must say, I'm not impressed. From what I understand, it has an okay story and all AT FIRST, but it ends up getting repetitive later. I believe it.
It was only a couple of episodes I saw, but the whole thing just made me go "THIS is why it's so popular?" The whole fight I saw had IY attacking a regenerating character over and over with the same attack to no effect, while everyone else just stood around and talked. Yeah, interesting. I mean, had they actually tried to help, or IY actually tried some intelligent way of fighting back, it might have interested me, but it didn't. Not top of my list to see right now...
(Please do not I'm actually judging on the
content of these shows and not the actual art-style. Like I said before, I would probably have never given IY a chance to begin with if I judged solely on the art.
)

Favorite: FullMetal Alchemist
Why: Well, for one thing, it's so freakin' good even my DAD likes it (and my mom, to an extent, though she prefers Cowboy Bebop). The plot, characters, the setting...everything just appeals to me.
Least Favorite: Starblazers
Why: The plot and characters are "meh". Maybe everything was better in the original, but...I'll never be able to see the original to find out (like One Piece...).
It isn't THAT bad, really, but I've never actually seen an anime I hated.

Favorite: Maison Ikkoku. Wonderful story with a good mixture of drama/comedy/romance and one of the best endings in anime.
Least Favorite: Evangelion.

Let's not go into the "Sub Dub One Piece" crap ok folks? Some of us are just plain sick and tired of seeing the debate going on. Posts debating this issue will be deleted. K. Thanks.

Yes, like Gundam SEED, too. I somewhat enjoyed the show itself, but there came a point where nothing would move on the screen but the mouths. XD Can you say Speed Racer? XD

Favorite: I have WAAAYYY to many favs. (Currently Scrapped Princess, Bleach, Ouran High School Host Club, and Fruits Baskets.)
Least Fav: Hmm... that would have to be Last Exile. I get all my anime from Myrrhlynn, XD so in essence it goes through a 'good and bad' filter so I never see bad anime. (Although there are endings that I hate.) But for Last Exile... the entire series just BOTHERED me. XD I dunno, I think the main guy character bugged me.

Favorite: Cowboy Bebop. Greatest anime ever made, IMO.
Least favorite: Hard to say, but I'm going to go with Excel Saga. I know I'm being unfair as I've only seen the first episode, but frankly, I didn't want to see any more after that, and I get so sick and tired of hearing people talk about how wonderful it is.

Favorite series: Rurouni Kenshin (TV series and the Trust and Betrayal OAV), though Monster ranks pretty high on my list too.
Least favorite: Basically anything they are showing on G4 TV channel. The last few times I've tried watching new series they were showing I kept getting shows fixated on fanservice or stupid plots. I'm with RedMage on Excel Saga too - talk about pointless and irritating!
