Were you surprised that CN aired Princess Mononoke during Toonami?

I was quite surprised this happened on Saturday. If I were in charge of the programming, I'd have aired it during AS. It's WAY too violent for the Toonami crowd. The parents would be in an uproar. I mean, come on they have to edit Naruto, for Pete's sake!

they've shown Ace Ventura, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and now Dumb & Dumber is upcoming, none of which are kids movies even when edited. the S&P people are obviously slacking off.

Well if YTV can air it uncut too... not surprised. (And YTV was the company that stalled on sticking the GitS: SAC ep "Jungle Cruise" on... but eventually did). Not sure what time Toonami's on, but I think it was fairly early in the night that YTV had it on.

Nothing was edited, per Miyazaki's rule.

(Nothing was edited?! Whoah. I rented it a month ago and watched it with my dad (my siblings were up in Lousiana), and while I didn't mind the gore and minor cursing (though I did twitch a few times), I would have never let my siblings watch something like that, especially near the end with a certain character who became a demon. I was intending on letting them watch it because it was on CN, but now...)

Besides cuts made for fitting within a time limit, Miyazaki doesn't allow anything to be edited in his movies content-wise.

Now I wish I would have known this was on.

i was quiet surprised that it was shown un-edited and that makes me happy cuz it being editted would not have done the film justice

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is a kid`s movie edited or not.....
I think that the movie was fine on Toonami. The only gore that was shown was that of an animal which can be shown on the Discovery Channel with a TV PG rating not animated.

And maybe Ashitaka being shot... and still surviving, just bleeding lots... oh, and can't forget when Ashitaka shooting off several arms AND heads of samurai :/ Cause ya know, seeing a close-up of severed arms hooked onto a tree by an arrow isn't gorry at all

Yeah, and no blood splatted anywhere.
The head just came off and the guys arm looked like a slab of steak.
We`re talking about gore not blood anyway. No human gore was shown.

tom Princess monoke was gorey for Toonami cuz well again some ones arms were ripped off and pinned to a tree. And last time i checked the edited Naruto and One piece for blood. <last part was uncalled for on my part so editted>

Miyazaki has never really drawn "gore" anyhow :/ Now that I think about it, there's only been a couple anime I've seen with human gore actually shown (not counting Inuyasha with the demons and stuff) :/ Akira, Elfen Lied... and well, I guess the first ep of FMA would count too :/ ...that's about it, really :/ I've seen lots of anime, and even though some were pretty violent and even bloody (Kenshin OVAs for example) wasn't even gory :/

well in my opppion i classify Gore as like losing of limbs not blood covering stuff. So in my oppion it was a bit gorey for toonami

Naruto still has an adult swim level of blood. Normally it doesn`t, but the battle with Zabuza was equivelent to that of a FMA episode.
Gorey for TOONAMI is a WHOLE DIFFERENT ball park.
Not neccessarily.
They did warn audiences that it had more violence then the usual cartoons they air and it did get a TV 14 label so no, I don`t think it was too violent.

the point is tho that it was made for an older age group....not really the younger croud.

It's perfectly fine for us to all have varying opinion on this matter. However, let's all be sure that our words are constructive and will not provoke anger in others.
I, personally, would say this movie was innapropriate for Toonami. Decapitations, busty village girls(former prostitutes), crazed/demonic forest creatures-- simply not children's fair. Consider for a moment if you would want a eight year old watching this. I, for one, don't think it would be appropriate.

Again, that is why people were warned. I havent seen any law saying all Toonami shows must be for little kids. No, it`s more like all Toonami shows must be an anime show leaning towards action.
Why Hamtaro was shown on Toonami will always remain a mystery to me.

*scratches head* I don't even remember any reference to their former life. I know Lady Eboshi cared for and brought in lepers and that she "spoils the women" etc... but that they used to be prostitutes?? Are you sure?

Same here. I do not remember that reference.

Did you watch it only on Toonami? Maybe that was editted out. . .
It's been quite some time since I last watched it, but I just checked with Yumie and she agreed that there was a comment which directly illuded to their previous occupations. One of the woman mentions that working at the iron works beats working at the brothel in the city and that the men don't bother them unless they want them to.

You see I didn't know what a "brothel" was^^ I assumed the men just bothered them cause they were women *shrugs*. Well, that totally clears things up (and no, didn't see the Toonami version which was as stated, completely uncut.)

Neither does CN, as they're aiming Toonami at the 9-14 crowd and not 6-11 like everything else on the network (barring Adult Swim, which is technically a seperate entity).

Yeah, there were former prostitutes. As if the thing was uncut, it had to be. It wasn't uncut and Miyazaki finds out about this. Then you can say bye bye to the rights of his movies or any Studio Ghibli movies being showed on Tunner channels anymore.
Miyazaki has require that a "no edit" clause be included in all contracts.

They probably got Princess Mononoke as part of a package with the other three movies when they acquired them after TCM aired them earlier in January. As such it was probably impossible for them to air it any later then they did.
