"The Real Folk Blues" From Cowboy Bebop.

I remember back in the day, when Adult Swim only showed anime on Saturdays, they would let the whole song play. It's really sad, and pretty depressing. Nowadays, they just speed through it, which is wrong, because it's such a great song.

Gravity from Wolf's Rain

The Real Folk Blues and Blue from Cowboy Bebop. Well, Blue really isn't sad, but definitely emotionally moving.

Michiyuki from Loveless. One of the best end songs ever.

The singer for the Fruits Basket OP and other assorted animes has this very soft, haunting voice, so that ultimately, most of her songs sound sad to me.

The saddest anime episode thread got me thinking about the first Kimagure Orange Road movie. The closing theme was Ano Sora o Dakishimete (Hold That Sky Close) which proved to be very sad given what had taken place in the movie.

Gah, Love Chronicle, from Full Moon. Mostly because of the scene that it's associated with near the end of the anime. Ack, it's so sad!

I also have to agree with Blue from Cowboy Bebop. Not exactly a sad song, but still, that scene is so powerful. *nodnod*

The piano version of "Mirai no Futari ni" from 08th MS Team (the ending theme to Shuddering Moutain Pt II) always gets to me. Especialy because of what happens to a certain character and what they show pertaining to him in that sequence.

Well, "Departure" from Rurouni Kenshin is a given.

But other than that, I think the song that Sakura sings (I don't know the for-sure name of it, but I just call it "Sakura's Song") on episode 20 of Tsubasa Chronicle is one of the saddest. And also, for some reason, I think "Minagoroshi(sp?) No Elegy" from Rurouni Kenshin is really sad. They're both just soooo pretty! And "B.T." from .hack//SIGN is somewhat sad(probably because it's in a minor key), but it's really pretty. (Note that only "Sakura's Song" actually has someone singing)

AH! Thanks for reminding me!! Cav Ruz Intermezzo, from Rurouni Kenshin!! That song absolutely KILLS. And it's not just from Rurouni Kenshin, either. My brother was watching The Godfather Part III one day, and I heard that song. I nearly fell off my chair when I realized what it was. XD Anyways, yeah, LOVE that song. :thumb:

Hahaha, me too! In fact, my name here used to be Rurouni_Kaoru. XD Kenshin has tons of great music; I think one of my favorites is Fourth Avenue Cafe. :D

While I'm here, I might as well mention Aozora, from Air. Wonderful song, and it sounds very sad, too. :thumb:

My favorite RK song is 1/3 No Junjou Na Kanjou. XD

Also, it's not really from an anime, but there's an anime for it, but "Labyrinth" from Ragnarok Online is a really sad, pretty song.

Sayonara Solitaire (Chrno Crusade), Eternal Snow (Full Moon wo Sagashite) and Aozora (Air) are the three biggest tear-jerkers for me.

I don't remember what all the lyrics translate to at this time, but "Sora wa Kataranai" from Onegai Teacher sounds extremely sad. I believe the title translates to "The sky won't say anything." Although I'd say they are more depressing than actually sad, most anything from .hack//SIGN sounds that way to me. I mean, come on, you can't tell me the line "you are here all alone but it does not mean a thing to me" doesn't sound depressing!

Alright...

Chrno Crusade - Sayounara Solitia
Wolf's Rain - Face On (an instrumental that I love) and Gravity
Inuyasha - Aika (I think that's what the song is called...) and Fukai Mori
Fullmetal Alchemist - Siblings
GTO - Shizuku
Naruto - Nakushita Kotoba

I'm sure I've forgotten some.

Wolf's Rain's music is pretty sad, I'll agree to that.
I don't know why, but I found "Key of the Twilight" (from .hack//sign) to be a pretty sad song.

The Real Folk Blues--catchy and sad at the same time.
Brothers--Fullmetal Alchemist.
Lilium--from Elfen Lied. I've never seen the show, but the song is so haunting and sad, and I don't even know what they're saying. It made me cry once.

I dunno if it's been posted or not, but it's not anime. 'Someday the Dream Will End' from FFX are sad if you think about its meaning.

Aeris' theme from FFVII is just flat out sad (Anyone who's ever played will knwo this)

I find "To Nowhere" from .hack//SIGN to be very sad. I also love it.

Lyrics:

Can you hear the calling of the raving wind and water?
We just keep dreaming of the land 'cross the river
We are always on the way to find the place we belong
Wandering to nowhere, we're paddling down the raging sea

Who can cross over such raving wind and water?
On the rolling boat we sit, shiver with coldness
Come by an island, come by a hillock
It's just another place; we paddle on down the raging sea.

But in one morning we'll see the sun
Bright shining morning, dew singing
They who will search will find the land of evergreen
Search for the light

Can you hear the calling of the raving wind and water?
We just keep paddling down the sea, up the river
No destination, but we are together
In the silent sadness, we're paddling down the raging sea

Down to nowhere

Considering you've all mentioned Bebop so many times, how could you forget Rain???

Also, "Psychadelic Soul," "What's It For?," and "Beauty Is Within Us" (all from Stand Alone Complex)...
