anime that SCARED you?

Ok, here's an interesting topic I came up with (and c'mon don't be shy or embarassed to answer) cause I'm sure I'm not the ONLY one...

So, ever had an anime that scared/shocked you when you watch it, or heard about a title/watched a trailer of one that looked too creepy for you to watch?

Here's my short list!

Rurouni Kenshin OVAs
My first anime title that wasn't something off Fox/YTV which was when I barely knew about any anime. The violence on the first ep was enough to shock me at the time. Now I own them and been somewhat desensitized since then :/

Elfen Lied
Title looked good and I heard it was extremely violent, but the plot sounded really good. Wow... was the first ep ever a shock to more (more so than Kenshin OVA) and even with the ep
of the dog getting killed and you can here the lifelike whining
that part just made me cringe especially >_<

Black Jack
I was just watchign some Manga Ent tailers off one of my DVDs and something about this one just creeps me out >_< Is it just me or does Manga just plain like taking alot of creepish anime titles that no one's heard of till they release it? Ghost in the Shell creeped me out from the trailer when I first saw it, and then when I started watching SAC and watched the movie, wasn't as bad as I thought :/ Thought it had extreme violence in it :/

So now, I'm used to violence in naime for themost part, as long as the show has a GOOD plot and not just kill kill kill for the violence :/ I dunno somethign about some cartoon violence still creeps me out. Already when I watched the Watership Down cartoon movie a couple years ago it was a shock of the cartoon violence in it, knowing it was played out in a serious and somewhat detailed manner (and who'd expect bunnies to be that violent?! i mean, BUNNIES!!) Plague Dogs was another title by the same guy and only be seeing screenshots of how the story takes place in a medical testing lab and the details of it, just creeps me out ^^

I'm not sure if this counts, but once someone I know asked, "Do you want to watch "Akira"?". The combination of being terribly, horribly squeamish, and hearing some pretty nasty things about that movie, I totally freaked out. In fact, I think I scared him XD

Totally forgot to add Akira to my list! Ok the psychic violence was only slightly disturbing (close to that of Elfen Lied's) but the big "blob" at the end was so disgusting and it was sick to think that
Tetsuo killed his girlfriend with his own grotesque inside-outish body squishing her
was pretty >_< Yeah never did find that movie "a masterpiece of anime" which was the only reason I rented it, cause Anime Insider wouldn't stop talking about how great it was!

One more to add to the list that reminds me: 1st and 2nd Rennaisance off The Animatrix... I just found alot of those scenes disturbing and after I read the topic of it in the anime reviews forum, I wasn't alone :/

Spirited Away. Mostly, it just felt wierd, but then NoFace showed up and... yeah, that was REALLY freakish for me (and it was only PG? o.o ).

I'm not so sure I wanna be seeing Elfen Lied, though, from what I hear. People getting their heads ripped off and torn limb from limb... not so much, thanks...

Escaflowne. While watching I had thought that they had finished the story quite acceptably but then realized there was like 10 episodes left and I began to fear what they were going to do with the remaining time. My fears were justified in my opinion.

There are others, but I will not mention their names because I do not care to reference them or pique curiosity over them.

A peice of advice: if Spirited Away frightened you, at all, then do not see Elfen Lied. You might end up having to be treated for PTS disorder.

No anime has ever scared me. Some have kept me held in a certain dramatic tension (yes, surprisingly, Elfen Lied was one, though I wouldn't recommend it), but none of them have frightened me at all. Perhaps this is because my brain knows they aren't "real" (unlike feature films, such as "The Ring").

I was watching the Manga trailers once on my compy in the wee hours of the morning(with no lights on and headphones) and then this trailer comes on for Perfect Blue. I could have sworn there was somebody or presence or something that was sneaking up behind me to firmly grasp my shoulder and...scare the heck out me!! Really, I felt it twice and then I immediatly skipped to the next trailer. Scary...

Oh, come now, Tom. FLCL?

Elfen Lied. The first episode did get to me pretty badly, until I just started getting numb from the sheer quantity of blood and body parts.

One very specific scene in "The Cat Returns" is the all time winner for me, though. Remember when Haru gets back to her own world, but finds the entrance to the Kingdom of Cats has moved way, way up into the air? Bad enough, that she is stuck on a tiny little platform a couple thousand feet up in the thin air, but then she suddenly starts reverting from Cat back into Human, and starts growing, making the platform that much tinier. That actually, genuinely scared me silly.

Princess Mononoke when I saw it in theators. I was brought up on edited anime such as DBZ so it really shocked me that there was that much violence. Other then that....no anime has really frightened me.

Yep. Although, I did say PTS disorder, which is both incorrect and redundant. My bad.

After watching the uncut ver of Jungle Cruise from Ghost in the Shell: SAC and not getting scared from that, I feel that there is not anime that can scare me that much.

I wasn't really scared from that but maybe a little creeped, just at the method of how the killed the people made me shiver >_< But if ya don't think any anime can scare ya after that, go try Elfen Lied and then come back ;) Maybe not, but it's pretty shockign to many...

Akira and Blood: The Last Vampire. Akira freaked me out with how dark, depressing, violent and disturbing it was and Blood freaked me out with the intense atmosphere and strange monsters. Sure Akira was well animated but I don't see the big fuss about it. I saw Blood on tv and Akira I had borrowed from the library.

"Blue Gender" scared the everloving DAYLIGHTS out of me! The first couple of episodes quite literally knocked my socks off! The blood, guts, and the gore....not to mention the Blue! ::shudders::

Yes, I do know, and it's probably best to not discuss it here. I've heard of Disney's creative translation of that aspect of the movie, and I have to say that's a lot better than the truly insane (from an American viewpoint) plot device the creators originally intended.

well, I think that the only anime that has ever scared me was a few episodes of Witch hunter Robin. but that was what? like 3 years ago. now, hehe, I see someone's body torn up and all (like on CSI) and I'm like "ow, that had got to hurt when it happened." and that's it. I'm actually quite fascinated in animated violece such as gore, blod, limbs being ripped off (oh, I love that one) and such.

but yeah, that's the only anime I've been scared from because the woman was looking at a mirror and she wipes blood on the mirror and she's says "now, I'm a witch" or something and I'm like "okay, time to turn the channel!" but that was when I had no experience of animated violence. now, I love the blood and gore. excuse my bragging. XD; I'm just trying to tell the truth here.

No, you were right. It's PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Spirited Away, Boogiepop Phantom, and Serial Experiments Lain, especially that scene where the kid shoots a girl with an invisible gun. That still creeps me out every time I see it. I'm getting goosebumps just typing about it!

Akira I wouldn't say scared me but it most deffinetly made me squirm a little. Especially the last twenty minutes or so with Tetsuo. Oh and Ninja Scroll for the violence and the scenes that were practically crossing the line into hentai. I was anime ignorant then not to mention 14 years old. The Jungle Cruise episode of GITS: Stand Alone Complex made me squeam a little as well.
Deffinetly during the part where the knife makes that cutting action along the girl's arm and you hear that scream. You don't actually see the knife of course but that's half the terror. And just thinking about gettng skinned alive like that while you're watching it too.
It's actually one of my favorite episodes because its so emotional and so well done. But its not one of those episodes that I could just pop in and chill to.

Only one sereis.

And I doubt the moderators would appreciate me mentioning it on here.

In fact, no one should ever have to know it exists (A few of you may know what I'm talking about).
