Alright, so who's your fav composer from anime? I'm throwing Nobou in ther cause, well, he's good, he's a big name too and FF's practically anime :/

My vote goes out to Yuki! I WUV the style of music she does (and it's really hard to tell sometimes if it's her singing or if it's someone else :/) Either way goof stuff there!

I have just four things to say:

"Tank!"

The composer for .hack//SIGN is a close second, though.

Yuki Kajiura! I LOVE .hack//SIGN music! It is simply awesome! Did you know that there is a soundtrack only option on the DVDs? So nifty! *turns on To Nowhere*

Yoko Kanno comes in second. Her music is good and she is an amazing composer, but I just like Kajiura's more.

hmmmmm......that's tricky....i own more uematsu stuff......i'll have to say Kanno, cuz even though FF is "practially" anime, it still isn't anime. I love Kanno's diversity, from rockin' jazz to melancholic, melodious, and sweeping pieces (Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Good times, good times.....

I like them all, so it's hard to choose. I picked Yoko Kanno simply because I've heard (and liked) more music from her than Uematsu and Kajiura, but I like music from the two of them as well.

Yuki Kajiura. The soundtrack for .hack//SIGN is my all-time favorite; I could listen to it forever. But Yoko Kanno's awesome too.

I said at one time that Yoko Kanno is one of the best modern jazz composers of our time. I still stand by that assertion.

Not even modern jazz. She has proven her ability to work in any genre. Who would have thought that after 600 years had passed since the height of its popularity someone would compose an anime song based on gregorian chant?

And I did not know that she also worked on Rahxephon.

oh wow...so hard. When people ask of my fav anime music, I usually say Yuki Kajiura, Yoko Kanno, and Mitsumune Shinkichi(Rozen Maiden). oh and Oohashi Megumi!! (uta-kata)

I picked Yuki Kajiura, but what's sad is that I really haven't gotten the chance to hear the .hack work! must see .hack//sign anyways..i'm madly in love with her work on Mai Hime. particularly the various Ensei tracks. ^_^

two questions....who did the music for Bleach? and for Air? (my track labels are all garbled unfortunately )

I would recommend watching .hack//sign for the music alone. It is that worth it. The anime is interesting too.

In many cases Advent Children is concidered anime though, and I know Last Order totally is anime (not sure if he did the score to that though).

Oooo she does that too? I knew she also did the Le Petit de Cossette score (which I still want to look into). Know any other she does? Oh and TOTALLY forgot she did Tsubasa too! I find it only alright though. A couple themes are good but that's about it.

yuki kajiura and yoko kanno rock my sockities that im not wearing oh yeah!

I can't believe that none of you Miyazaki fans have mentioned Joe Hisaishi, the composer for his films! O_O I've decided I'm rather enjoying his musical works, anyway -- though I'm not so sure yet that I have a favorite composer. ^_^

Didn't knwo she did the Chrono Crusade ending either. Doesn't sound like her style though :/ *shrugs* I'll have to listen to it again and maybe check out some of the other stuff from that list^^ I also wuv her "Fiction" CD. Fiction and Vanity and Cynical World are great english songs by her^^

EDIT: Site also says it's a special song she does with Saeko Chiba, I'm thinking...

Totally forgot about him! Well, that's what the "other" option is for (those I forgot/never heard of).

Yoko Kanno. She has some of my favorite songs on Cowboy Bebop! I like "Diggin" a lot, although I'm not going to listen to it with my mom in the room. Not that it's bad or anything, their's just that one line.

And yes, she wrote the opening theme to RahXephon. Yummy.

It's the one from Escaflowne, I don't know the name of the song. You couldn't really call it gregorian chant, but it is influenced by it.

Yuki Kajiura=brilliance. Really, there is nothing to compare to his scores. I have three of them and I listen to them for hours at a time.

My second favorite composer is Tenmon, who did the scores for Voices of a Distant Star and Places Promised in our early Days. His violin and piano solos are incredible.

The Porco Rosso soundtrack is one of my favorites. He definitely belongs on the list... but I would still vote for Kajiura. Give her another decade of success, and she may end the all-time master of Anime soundtrack... if she isn't already that.

Actually, without Kajiua, it would be a coin toss for me between Hisaishi and Kanno.

I'd like to see more from Tenmon, before putting him up with these others. He has done well in Music, but I've seen nothing from him in soundtrack except the two Shinkai films. I would like to know how much was him, and how much was Shinkai.

Other persons I feel are missing from this list:
Shiro Sagisu! (Bleach, Abenobashi, Kare Kano, and The Anime That Shall Not Be Named) - he doesn't write "Big" soundtracks, but he weaves his music into the anime with great skill.

Taku Iwasaki (Witch Hunter Robin, Now and Then Here and There, Rurouni Kenshin) Kind of the same comment as for Sagisu, but also,he just has a gift for writing haunting melodies.

And although they will probably never have another anime gig, nor will there ever be another that suits them so well, I will always have a special spot reserved for The Pillows (FLCL)

Yoko Kanno was the first anime composer I ever really noticed. I can't really pick a favorite score from her, but Cowboy Bebop and WOlf's Rain were definitely her best work. My fave song by far though, is "Inner Universe".

I think Kanno's awesome. I've never heard of anyone else with such musical range.

Also, you may want to add Kaoru Wada (Inu-Yasha, Ninja Scroll, Gilgamesh) to this list.

P.S. EricTheFred, Taku Iwasaki didn't do the Kenshin TV series, just the OVA's. Also, he did the music for Get Backers.

Akihisa Matsuura Kenji Kawai and Eiji Mori for their work on Ranma, among other things.

I also liked the composer for Azumanga Daioo. The name escapes me at the moment.

Vision of Escaflowne is the name of the song. If that is the one that you are talking about.
