What does AS plan to show?

What other anime's does Adult Swim plan on showing/supposed to be showing in the future. 'Cause, there are some I'd like to watch, but the only way for that to happen would be for AS to show them...
Anyway, does anybody know or have they heard if adult swim will be showing different animes from the ones they already have? if so, what animes?? (half expects Wingzero21 to reply to this thread)

I'm just hoping that YTV'll pick some more of the AS titles up. It would be nice to see stuff like FMA and whatnot. And most of the titles YTV gets (GitS, WHR) are titles that I probably wouldn't ever be interested in seeing, but since they're being aired on TV I watch every ep of them).
Just be glad you have on there what you do...

Right now, all I know is this.
AS is planning on showing anime in sub, but they will not say what that anime is. All they have said is that, the anime will be new and not something that has been showed on AS before.

Interesting. Where'd you find that out?

CN talk about it on anime con early this year. I think it was in the summer or so.
I was also reported by ANN and other anime news web pages.
Some people have forgot about it, since CN will not say what the anime is or when they are going to show it.
Some people started to think that it could have been Escaflowne, since they got the movie. But that died out after it was repoted that the anime they are going to show sub, will be something new. But they never really give info on what they meant by new. New to TV or anime that is pretty new.

Usually AS tends to keep new acquisitions under wraps until Upfronts (which happen around March) or Comic-Con (around July). Of course if they make really a big acquisition they may go ahead and announce it (as they did with
Evangelion). But we should get some news on future shows in a couple months or so.
Although it's always interesting to speculate what might be coming based on staff interviews and that kind of thing. There was a thread on Toonzone a few months back about an Anime Insider interview AS Programming Manager Kim Manning, in which they discussed the odds on future acquisitions. It sounded like they're seriously looking at
Full Metal Panic: FUMOFFU.
His and Her Circumstances was possible as well, although it sounded like more of a long shot.
Of course none of those have officially been announced as acquisitions yet. So please don't go around telling people I said
FUMOFFU was coming to AS.

Wait, wouldn't the first Full Metal Panic be a more logical choice? It's far more action-based...

But if they're in fact considering His and Her Circumstances, then maybe they're shooting for more comedy/romantic comedy in their lineup. While I'd rather see something other than Kare Kano (i.e., His and Her), that would be an interesting move on their part.
But I think it's unlikely for that to happen.

As far as I know, the article didn't mention the original FMA, but that doesn't mean it's not up for consideration. I don't think FUMOFFU would really be that out of place]But if they're in fact considering His and Her Circumstances, then maybe they're shooting for more comedy/romantic comedy in their lineup. Yeah, in what I saw of the article Kim Manning said that H&HC is really more romantic comedy than what they want to go. It sounded like it's not out of the realm of possibility, but would be a long shot.

Remember they have been saying that they were going to show a subbed anime since the Fall.I really can't trust what AS says any more, especially since they originally scheduled the first Inuayasha movie to run at 12:30 on Christmas Eve night and then changed it by an hour just because they wanted to run a marathon of one of their mediocre going nowhere "comedies".
Personally I would love to see AS go out and acquire either Bubblegum Crisis or The Dirty Pair.

I second on Dirty Pair. Wait, the original or like, the new stuff...?

After seeing some of FMP at a con video room today, it's airing on AS would get a definite thumbs up from me.

I could see them doing the first season of FMP much more then FUMOFFU...and then doing FMP:Second Raid as the DVDs are coming out in the States. FMP seems like a good candiate for AS, especially now that their relationship with ADV is more on secure ground.
Remember that AS's primary target audience is young men. FMP will draw that crowd as well as appealing to young women with the romance and relational aspect of the story.
This is also why I don't think His & Her Circumstances would be high on their list. Too serious and too focused on the female audience. However...the new Oh/Ah My Goddess series, now THAT might be a possibility.
I'd love to see them do Gankutsuou, but it may be considered too sophisticated for their target audience.
Trying to think what else has been out there recently as far as US releases...Scrapped Princess, perhaps? E's Otherwise is in the vein of S-cry-ed, but maybe TOO MUCH like it. It's not of all that qood a quality, either, from what I've seen so far. Planetes is likely too serious, and Princess Tutu too female-focused. Samurai 7 might be a possibility, but with Samurai Champloo that may be one too many Samurai series (OTOH, I think IFC got the rigths to Samurai 7). Tsukihime, Lunar Legend wasn't bad for what it was, but I get the feeling Witch Hunter Robin wasn't as successful as they hoped (cause they haven't repeated it recently) and they might not want another dark drama.
Of course, the fact that they got S-cry-ed and then Eva shows that they're willing to go back to some older series...RahXephon would be a good fit, I think, but its likely G4 still has the rights.
EDITED TO ADD: Just thought of another one. Ergo Proxy hasn't even begun to air in Japan yet (I think), but if it's any good, I can see AS snatching it up as soon as it's dubbed. Why? Because it appears to be a sci-fi action drama with somewhat serious/realistic human animation style...and the production staff in Japan have the following on their resume: Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Witch Hunter Robin -- all of which have aired on AS.

I've seen one episode of
E's Otherwise and thought it seemed decent., enough to make me want to see more. Let's just say the bits and pieces of
S-cry-ed I've seen on AS have never motivated me to sit down and watch a whole episode.
Sorry, just had to jump in with my opinion there... *shrug*

I wish they
would repeat
Witch Hunter Robin, I didn't watch it before and now I'd like to.

That would indeed be interesting. They've shown mostly action based shows upto now. A relationship show would be an unique decision.

I agree that Kare Kano or any other female-targeted romance/relationship dramas aren't going to see the light of day on AS.

Actually they did mention Ranma in the piece, although from what I remember Manning said it was about a million-to-1 shot. Its age was a primary reason. I don't remember if they mentioned the nudity that would need to be edited in this particular article, but I believe I've read that in the past, AS has shied away from Ranma for that reason as well.

If you have seen any of the ads for the 'comedies' on AS the whole question of nudity in Ranma 1/2 is a bit silly, the current 'comedies'on AS apparently show far worse stuff. And that is just from watching the ads during the week!
Let's face it the real reason Ranma 1/2 would probably not be shown on AS is that it is a quality comedy that shows up the majority of AS' own comedies for what in reality they are:mediocre creations made up by grown up males who never got past the potty humor stage of life.

I'm gonna call you on that one. No cartoon on CN has ever shown breasts. They may show buttocks, but that's a different matter entirely. Since Ranma DOES show breasts, it would be difficult to edit that, without the use of "digital bathing suits" like on Tenchi Muyo. And I think any edits would have to be approved by the original Japanese company (if I remember correctly) and Rumiko Takahashi may not want that kind of editing done, preventing CN from showing it.

ya AS blocks it out if a show shows it. But they never show any more than the butt and thats rare

This is entirely no excuse.AS airs at late night. It has a disclaimer warning parents that the content is not for children under 14 years of age.The only reason it won't air Ranma 1/2 has nothing to do with content.TPTB won't do it because they have an totally anti-anime bias.End of story.

Yeah, okay. Believe what you want. e.e
Considering that the digital bathing suits were MADE BECAUSE TENCHI MUYO SHOWS BREASTS. If the breasts weren't a problem, WHY did they cover them with bathing suits? Because the breasts WERE a problem, that's why. If the breasts weren't a problem, CN wouldn't have messed with them.
Creating those digital bathing suits cost money, you know. Someone didn't say, "Hey, we'll create those digital bathing suits for free because we're nice guys." Cartoon Network had to PAY MONEY to have them created.
If a company pays money to have something made, it's probably a pretty good assumption that it's because they needed it. I'm pretty sure Cartoon Network didn't say, "Hey, even though showing breasts is okay, let's go spend tens of thousands of dollars creating digital bathing suits for NO REASON. Then we will light these other piles of money on fire!" Yeah. See how ridiculous that sounds?
Ranma would either have to have digital bathing suits, or it wouldn't be appropriate. So therefore it IS a content issue. It's not that hard to figure out, it's called thinking logically.
I have also stated COUNTLESS times that Cartoon Network is a BUSINESS. They do what gets them RATINGS. If Turner Broadcasting has a problem with anime, that's because it DOESN'T GET GOOD RATINGS. That means that MOST PEOPLE DON'T LIKE ANIME.
This may come as a shock to you, I know. I mean, I thought every American person liked anime too, but apparently we're a minority of the population. Go figure.
They show what gets RATINGS. If an anime gets BAD ratings, they replace it with a show that they know will get GOOD ratings. You can live in your little fantasy world all you want and say "They should show anime even though they get five times less viewers than if they showed Family Guy!" It merely proves you don't know the first thing about working in the TV business.
I'm sorry if I came across harsh, but I will not stand to have the Turner Broadcasting company slandered by someone who doesn't understand how the TV world works.

Well that was before AS ever came to CN. Now would they show breasts on AS now, no. But you would have been some stuff that wouldn't have been edited from Tenchi if it was showed on AS now a days.

Sorry to dig this up, but I found some text from the sidebar with Kim Manning. This was posted on
ToonZone. I think I looked for this during the original discussion, but didn't find it at the time...
1. "Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu" (100-1). "A decent contender."
2. "Burst Angel" (1,000-1) "This is a fun series, but it's got a little too much fan serivce for us."
3. "Love Hina" (500,000-1) "I like this show, but we're not ready to try romantic comedy. And if we were, I'd probably start with "His and Her Circumstances."
4. "Kodacha" (1,000,000-1) "It just isn't Adult Swim material."
5. "Ramna 1/2" (5.000,000-1) "Although I love the show, and it's Rumiko Takahashi, the show is kind of old now."

Not yet; still all speculation. I think Upfronts are in March, so we'll probably get some news in a few weeks.
