I'm not looking for review links or full content listings. I just want your opinions, comments, and recommendations. Here are the titles I'm interested in:

Avenger
Zeta Gundam
Gankutsuou
Burst Angel
Sol Bianca

I've seen a few episodes of Gankutsuou from the fansubs, and have the first US release DVD in my Blockbuster Online que for when it gets released.

I was very impressed with the visual style.

I think, given the few episodes I've seen as well as the source material, it's going to be a rather dark and angst-filled series...so be forwarned about that.

It's likely going to be in the mature audience category, at least around here, due to some characters having same-sex attraction, and implied sexual situations of the (mostly) hetrosexual variety.

But...I think the general plot itself shows that the series is intended for mature audiences, and I doubt it's the kind of show someone like my 12 year old daughter would even be interested in. In other words, I think it would bore preteens...it looks to be the kind of series you will have to invest in as far as following the plot carefully.

I've seen all of Gankutsuou and personally you couldn't pay me enough to watch it again. But then again I am obsessed with the book it is based on (The Count of Monte Cristo) and Gankutsuou basically takes all the good parts out of the book and adds in a ton of wierd ones. There are mecha in Gankutsuou believe it or not. Maybe if you haven't read the book you'd be able to appreciate it more. It is one of the wierdest animes I've ever seen that's for sure. As for content though there is violence and some implied sexual situations but not much. Oh wait there is some nudity near the end too.

Avenger ahh... why did you only want to know about animes I dislike? That one was ... wierd and boring. There is hardly any dialog in the series, and it is confusing as heck. After watching the whole thing I still don't really understand everything. The first episode is awesome, but after that it sort of gets in this "walk somewhere, fight a bit, walk some more" rutt that bored me to tears. The characters spend lots of time staring off camera or just making angst filled expressions. There's violence obviously but not much more really objectionable content as far as I can remember.

Sol Bianca, as was said, has fanservice, but not a lot. It's so-so. Give it a rent first and see if you like it.

If you've liked Gundam SEED, Zeta is really up your alley because it's built the same way (and you will know what the mobile suits and their battleship are based on). If you plan to be a Gundam fan for life, the Gundam fans will kill you if you don't watch Zeta, because it's THE GUNDAM SERIES, the most successful of the entire line and the major reason why the franchise is still alive. At first the 1980's animation might take getting used to, but eventually you'll get into the story and characters, and you'll see that the animation was incredible in detail for its time. Watching the original MS Gundam is very helpful but you won't be too lost if you don't.

Oh, but do realize that there's more kissing that happens in this story than in the 2K Gundam, okay? No dirty stuff, though.

Hope that helps!

Haha. I've seen the first two episodes of Bakuretsu Tenshi/Burst Angel. I'll agree with Rev. Doc. here...TONS and tons of fanservice, almost a harem-type anime. Really cool action scenes, if you can get past all the scantily-clad girls. Also, the opening theme, "Loosey," is extremely catchy!! It's very cool, and it totally grew on me. XD But I woulnd't necessarily recommend this one if fanservice is something you don't prefer. Go find Loosey to download somewhere though! XD

GANKUTSUOU!!!!!!!

*just got it*

Please, do watch it. It's very cinematic in style, the animation awesome, the soundtrack superb, ad infinitum. I've heard the dub being bashed about but I feel that it's actually rather good.

The box says "16 and up for mature themes"--this is keeping in with the book it's based on.

As lj1958 said, it's not the sort of anime a preteen would want to watch anyway. Unless said preteen was very mature and liked dark stuff.

Haven't seen the rest of them, sorry.

Burst Angel... uber-heavy fanservice. But some nice action here and there.

Yeah Burst Angel does indeed go a bit hefty on the fanservice; very good, entertaining show though! I have discs 1-3 and the artbox. I see it as a more relaxing, humor/action-filled show compared to alot of the heavier stuff out there. Granted, I greatly appreciate the heavy stuff cuz that's where there's some powerful messages (i.e. Samurai X OVAs, RahXephon, etc.), but sometimes it's nice to kick back and enjoy crap blowing up and some stylistic fighting. Just my opinion though :-p

Ok, well, how does Burst Angel compare to say, Full Metal Panic Fomoffu Vol.3 in fanservice? That's about my limit.

I would say nowhere near as much as Fumoffu vol. 3, and I know that for sure since I own the whole series! As a side note though, that's gotta be the funniest anime I've ever seen up to this point! While, yes that disc has loads o' fanservice, you have to admit, if they were to put Kurz in just ONE episode, they couldn't have done it any better :-p who btw is voiced by Christian VA Vic Mignogna. Good stuff, good stuff....... Yeah but back to the point, the bulk of fanservice in BA is scanty outfit, and some occasional <ahem> jiggling. I wouldn't really call it a harem anime; even though there's one guy/three girls, the guy's more of a supporting role, whereas guys are usually the main character in "harem" anime (i.e. Love Hina, Tenchi). :-)

YESH!! Fomoffu is an absolute "ROFL series!". But anyways, You helped out alot! :thumb: I'm not very partial to the jiggles, but scantily clad, I think I'm ok. (Stand Alone Complex and Cowboy Bebop are two of my most fave animes, so you get the idea) ;)
