Ok so the new Yugioh show aired today on Miguzi and my final assessment can be sumed up in one word:Lame! :shady:
If the pilot ep.is any indication this is just an excuse to cash in on one of the most popular anime titles.
How lame was it?
First the theme was so bad that I will never again complain about the
One Piece theme.
Second the Domino City barber shop most have had a special on Spikey
Hair considering how many of the male characters had it.
Third with a few exceptions the voice acting was atrocious and I'M PRO-DUB!
Fourth the Department Head that dueled the main character was such
a lame strategist that Mai could have beaten him when she was still in her
coma or Tea or Serenity could have finished him in no time without sweating.
I mean he's supposed to have a PHD and everything and he can't beat this
rookie?
The bright sides:
Yugi makes a cameo and gives the main character Winged Kariba.
Alexis, the shows obvious version of Tea,otherwise known as YGX'
Eye Candy.
Apparently one of the few characters to have a half way decent VA
voicing her.
Recommendantion:Except for Alexis there isn't much to recommend this
series so far.Instead either watch the Original on KidsWB or better yet
either try to get the original version on DVD or else buy the manga. As
far as it goes and as I stated with the exception of Alexis this show
isn't worthy the name Yu-Gi-Oh!

They changed Asuka's name to Alexis? O_O. I forgot that this is 4kids. I wonder what everyone else's dub names are. I've seen episodes 1-13 of GX in japanese and I like it. It's nice that most of the duels only last 1 episode in this series.

I saw the commericals about the show but I didn't think it looked as good as the original yugioh. So what's the deal, Is Yugioh GX a different show with the same concept?

From what I understand it takes place something like 10 years after the last
Yu-Gi-Oh! arc(at least I think that's what I read when I looked it up at Anime
News Network). And yes, maybe it is the 4kids dub that makes it so bad. This is
one case where I wouldn't feel too bad if they showed the sub instead,at least
the voice acting couldn't have been as aweful in the original Japanese.
I think the reason why the duels last only one ep. is because they're supposed to be at a special academy to learn how to duel.
So like Yugi and gang were so deprived that they had to learn dueling on their own?

I got the impression that the "Dueling Acedemy" is like summer camp, because it would be totally ridiculous if it wasn't ^^. Why would kids go to a year round school to learn to play a card game? But maybe that's part of the craziness of the yugioh world ^^.

It can't take place 10 years after Yugioh DM, if it did Yugi would have been like 26 and he definitly didn't look that old. I think it's probably a few years after the Pharoh's Memory saga

Okay yesterday night I saw the encore presentation of the first episode. And I'm not sure what to think. Although I like the dualing aspect, it doesn't really have the same vibe the original had.

So far, it seems like a show I could watch if it were on, but had no perference either way. I say it's mediocore at best; from what I've need. It's just not the same...

I remember when I looked it up at Anime News Network that they mentioned it
took place about 10 years later. It could be my memory is faulty and it was
5 years later but it is definitely a while since the final ep. of the original series.
And what is a 26 year old supposed to look like?
Remember some people have a tendency to look younger than they really are.

Question, before they started on GX, how did the YGO:Duel Monsters' series end? I don't mind spoilers^^ Just thought that would be another one of those non-ending series @_@

I expected it wouldn't live up to the original. There are just times when shows; even great ones; need to just die in peace, rather than trying to milk for all it's worth and sliding into utter mediocrety.

Back when 4kids first aquired GX they said it took place 100 years after DM ^^.

Question, before they started on GX, how did the YGO:Duel Monsters' series end?
After Yugi-tachi beat Zorc and won Yami-Bakura's "Ultimate Dark RPG" they took the millenium items to that stone tablet where they originally came from and Yugi and Yami-Yugi dueled eachother. Yugi won the duel and Yami-Yugi left and passed on to the "kand of the dead" and the millenium items dissapeared
Huh... well, all things must end! I'm still wondering when shows like One Piece'll end though @_@ ...but then again GX begins! Somehow I DOUBT it'll reach much popularity though :/

This show is confusing. It is almost stream of conciousness in how the different eppisodes are strung together ... though admittedly season 2 is much better than one. They seem to be trying to revive the Shadow Games thing with baddies that Yugi-oh had not defeated. I am wondering if there is a relationship between Yugi and Jaden Yuki. Why would he just give a card to a strange kid that plowed into him? I almost assumed that they are related.

I actually didn`t have a problum with it just being a Duel Academy, but note I`ve always hated Yu-Gi-Oh! but this series sparked my interest since the only thing I had against Yu-Gi-Oh! was the fact they battle with cards to save the freaking world.

Once the words "Shadow Realm" were mentioned in GX, I immediately forgot about ever having an interest.

One question: Is GX American-Made or is there a better version in Japan?

Note: I have never read the manga. From what I`ve seen, it just looks like an innapropriate version of the 4kids dub. If the manga turns out good as I read it, I will take back all my negative comments towards it. Please Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, don`t take this harsh and hate me, I WANT you to come to its defense so I can found out good things about it.

It's very Japanese.

Strange thing... I hate YGO with a passion, yet I like GX.

I have to admit ... it is interesting in some parts ... YGO took until its final two seasons to get me interested. The movie was a bit lame. YGX is strange and lighter hearted. I think because they 'confirmed' the 'reality' of the card characters is why the DA, they do mention math class. The thing that gets me is the girly Dr Crowder. Is he going for a fasion statement or is he as he appears. He is obnoxious either way and I don't understand why he doesn't like Jaden and why he has been sabotaging him. I think he fixed it so that Jaden would be a Slipher (sp?) Red instead of Obilisk Blue. He has proven in the past that he is one of the best. Eek! I sound like I am in favor of it ... nope, no real opinion of it as I don't understand it. (Runs and seeks the security of B-grade anime, Pokemon).

I think it's a bit of a parody on Harry Potter as well as a Yu-Gi-Oh! spin off.
If it takes place 100 years after the original series then why is Kaiba still around?
10 years makes a lot better sense.
As far as the current Rise of the Sacred Beasts storyline goes,I think it started strong with the Atticus vs. Jaden duel and also the Vampiress story(however her
accent sounded like she spent way too much time watching old B horror movies)
the next one,the Amazon storyline was too silly. And let's not talk about the last two they showed.
Alexis is still the best reason to watch the series.

So now we have the mystery of a missing Professor Banner and his cat.And now
Crowler is turning out to be one of the Good Guys,PLUS Alexis just whupped two
guys AND Jaden beat the Dark Magician Girl!
What we really need is for Alexis to play Joey and Jaden to play Yugi in a tag team match to make it interesting.
I miss Baby Dragon and Time Wizard!

Does Kazuki Takahashi have anything to do with GX? (Other than that he created Yu Gi Oh.)

100 Years after the 1st season NOT TRUE YUGI IS STILL IN THE FIRST EP AND LOOKS TO BE IN HIS 20's!

It should be 10 years.
Now they're showing reruns again so we won't know what really happened to PRofessor Banner for a bit longer.

I watched one episode and found it rather painful since I kept comparing it back to the original (I know I shouldn't, to be fair but come on, ppl always compare between Gundam series as well XD; ). If some ppl like it, so be it.

I have to say that I actually like this show... although I wasn't too into the original Yugioh. I would really like to see this one in Japanese, though, because some of the stuff that got domesticated is *really* lame. Like 'Chaz it up.' And 'get your game on.'

I like Alexis..but have you noticed how she acts around Jaden?..I mean even
Dr.Crowler and the Chancellor kinda noticed..then again Crowler said he was abit
stupid..I mean come on it is so EVIDENT that she has a crush on Jaden..do we need to spell it out?

I like Alexis (Asuka) too. With the exceptoin of her name, it doesn't seem like too much of her personality and such got changed in translation.
