Chrno Crusade Ending(Spoilers)

Can someone help me out? I didn't like the ending. Mainly the part where Aion is talking like he won and saying blasphemous things. I don't get it. Was I misunderstanding something.

Nope, that's the end.
Read the manga, from what I understand it's much less pessimistic. The writers of the anime took a lot of liberties since the manga wasn't completed by the time the anime was.

Was Aion really alive? Did he take over? I thought it was destined that his plan failed.
