The only one of the three I have watched is Planetes up through volume two. The storyline is great and animation is pretty good. Set on a space station in the future, it focuses on the lives of a group who's job is to collect space trash in order to keep it from colliding with existing stations and flights. It's somewhat of a slice of life without the aliens, mechas etc.

While it's a very worthwhile title I have to warn you that the language can be pretty harsh at times.

Well, I've heard a LOT of really good things about Samurai 7. Furthermore, it's rate TVPG or something. Can't really be much to worry about with a rating like that.

Thanks for the info, I saw the first episode and really liked it and I didnt notice the language. In the content thingy on amazon dot com it said that in volume two there was brief nudity and thats what kind of worried me.

I've only seen a little of Samurai 7, but what I have seen is FANTASTIC.

Haven't seen any Planetes yet, but it looks awsome to me.

I don't know about the anime but the manga for Planetes has quite a bit of harsh language and some nudity. I don't really know much about the other titles. I'd like to find out about Samurai 7 also...

Samurai 7 is based on a classic samurai film that came out in 1954 that was directed by Akira Kurosawa. It's considered one of the best movies ever made, and it is most definitely good :-) The anime is also great; however, seeing the original film will make the anime an even more enriching experience, as you'll see how things from the plot are done in the anime in such a cool way (they also use the same character names which is pretty cool). Haven't seen the other two you mentioned, but Samurai 7 is highly recommended :-)

I'm using Blockbuster Online too...saw Planetes Vol 1 and have Samauri 7 on the que. I don't think Blockbuster has Planetes Vol 2 yet, not sure why.

One warning about Blockbuster Online, they seem to be somewhat dicey in their acquisitions, especially non-ADV anime (like they might have some kind of deal with ADV...since I've noticed they have mostly ADV anime in the stores). For example, they didn't have vol. 1 of Scrapped Princess, they don't have some of the early volumes of Witch Hunter Robin, etc. One of the Spiral volumes was mis-labeled (missing volume number) as well.

However...they are cheaper then Netflix, and you do get two free in-store rentals per month, plus special deals on used DVDs at the stores. We'll likely run through the anime we want to see at Blockbuster Online, and eventually switch to Netflix to pick up on what we've missed (about 80% of the US-released series I'm interested in seem to show up at Blockbuster Online, although perhaps not all of the DVDs in the series.

Netflix seems to deliver faster as well. Count on at least 2-3 days processing each way from Blockbuster, although they claim they are taking steps to improve that.

You guys should check out http://www.animetakeout.com. It's just like those other online movies rental sites like Netflix and such, but it's strictly anime :-) I told my girlfriend about it, and she's been using it since March. There's a bunch of different plans you can do, so it's pretty versatile. I'd say that be your best resource for checking out new shows, that is unless you have a Hastings nearby that has a good anime rental section like mine :-) Anyways, just an idea...
