What's Studio Ghibli's best work to date? Anime Insider asked it, so I guess it should be posted here as well?

other... The Cat Returns (I love that movie!) cause you didn't specifically say Miyazaki!
Although I also love Castle of Cagliostro ^^ Not exactly Ghibli, but yeah. Or maybe I should just say that they're all good in their amazing ways. But since Cat had lots of kitties in it I just had to say that^^ Now I wanna see Whispers of the Heart!

Well, I've only seen three so far, so...
Castle in the Sky was pretty good (and actually made sense). Princess Mononoke felt a little like a tree huggers movie and got really wierd at the end (but it was pretty!
). Spirited Away was also good, but... it kinda wierded me out, too (NoFace.....).
Oh! I still wanna see Howl's Moving Castle...

So do I! My dad's friend has it but it's in Chinese and the subtitles are really bad

It's because it's a cheaply done bootleg.
Priness Monoke for me.

Hmm...Howl, Spirited, and Castle were all really good, but my final vote goes to Nausicaa.

Spirited Away is one of my favorite favorite anime movies of all time, and definitely my favorite Ghibli movie [of which I've seen].

Same here. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is my fav. It was the first anime I saw (I didn't even know what anime was back then) and it hooked me. Spirited Away was also good though.

My fave is probably Mononoke Hime. (*ahem* REAL title)
The cat's return was also quite enjoyable.

::high fives:: THANK YOU! I KNEW THERE WAS AN OLDER PERSON WHO LIKED MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO! I KNEW I WASN'T ALONE!
I loved Totoro, and I got Spirited Away: both are the best of the best! Of course Mononoke Hime rocks my socks!

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is on the short list of my favorites period. It’s definitely my favorite Studio Ghibli. (Although, technically, it pre-dates Ghibli, but they own the rights to it.)

I think Hotaru no Haka (Grave of the Fireflies) is the greatest Ghibli film because it sends such a strong, important message about how horrible the effects of war are. A must see, but have a big tissue box ready.
After that, it has to be Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away). Simply spectacular, and one of my 5 favorite all time films (along with Haka *points to the above paragraph*). Beautiful animation and music, fantastic characters and story, amazing written and directed, a true masterpiece film that deserves every bit of credit it is given. It couldn't have deserved its Academy Award any more.
And granted, I think every Ghibli film is amazing and a must see, but the above two top my list.

My favorites in order are probably:
1. Grave of the fireflies (I never watch this often because its stabs you right in the heart)
2. Spirited Away
3. Howl's Moving Castle
4. Nausicaa Valley of the Wind
5. Princess Mononoke
6. My Neighbor Totoro
7. Kiki's Delivery Service
8. Castle in the Sky
9. Porco Rosso
10. The Cat Returns
11. Pom Poko
12. On Your Mark
It's so hard to order these but I think that's my favorite's so far.

That's such a hard choice! Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are pretty much tied in first for me, but all the Studio Ghibli films I've seen are excellent.

I think the BEST Ghibli movie is Hotaru no Haka but my favorite to watch is Mononoke Hime... I can't watch Grave of the Fireflies too much, it's much too sad, but it is one of the most important anime ever made. (not to get into politics, I am not anti-war, I am just in support of reality... Not watering anything down, and I think Hotaru pulled that off very effectively... For that reason, and the lack of anything fantastic (not counting the orange scenes which were entirely symbolic) this was an incredible movie.)
Fireflies was leaps and bounds better than Totoro, the movie it was released with... I thought Totoro was ok, though.

What is Grave of the Fireflies about/like? I've heard of it around, but I have no clue on it. @.@

"Spirited Away" is my favourite movie of anything, so I voted for that one.
But I think that Studio Ghibli, and Hayao Miyazaki, are amazing.
