Hey i just wanted to ask all of you for a Christian perspective of the anime Hellsing. I watched and got a little freaked by the pentogram symbol, and i don't know something didn't seem right with the anime, i did like some of it though and i just wanted to get the opinions of other Christians. Please let me know

I'm a fan of Bram Stokers so I like Hellsing. I haven't actually seen any of it yet, but I hope to soon.

Hmm, Psycho Ann wrote up a really good review for it. I poked around in the archives, but it didn't jump right out at me. I'll go look for it some more.

A Hellsing fantatic friend gave me a copy of it fansubbed. I watched. Personally, I liked it, but it is definitely not an anime I'd recommend to anyone looking for anime to teach Christian virtues. It's not on my favorite animes list, but I did enjoy it. The animation is great, the characters are great, the story is intriguging...

Alucard's sigil bothered me, but I don't think it is meant to be taken in the same way as pentagrams usually are. The whole symbol, with the circles and message "Shine Heaven Now" and all that is meant to be a symbol that binds him to the service of the Hellsing family, his bond to Integra.

I really liked Integra. She was a great character. And, I liked Anderson (but, I am a Baptist, not a Catholic). I liked him because he was just... such a psychopath.

It isn't an anime I'd recommend to everyone, though. One of my friends told me "I think you'll like it because it's gorey." Which... was true. You see, I don't mind blood in fiction, and I rather like it, strangely. I had a lot of delightful chills running up my spine watching Hellsing because of all the gorey scenes - but I know not everyone can stomach a lot of blood. There aren't... flying entrails... but... there is a lot of blood... a LOT of blood.

I might recommend it to Blade of the Immortal manga fans for this reason, though.

It all depends upon what you are comfortable with, and what you can take as fiction. For instance, I liked Neon Genesis Evangelion, personally (I could see it as a cool science fiction story - I'm not looking for truth in Eva)... but I wouldn't recommend it to all Christians. I know many Christians are offended by Eva. I happened not to be because I knew that the Judeao-Christian symbolism in it was just gimmick, that the story had a mythology entirely its own.

I like Hellsing... My friends are pretty much evenly divided on the subject, though; some of us love, it others hate it...

When it comes to things like Pentagrams, I don't think a lot of Japanese know what the represent over here... Just like we don't know what some of their symbols represent. Case in point: the swatstika in Blade of the Immortal is not a Nazi Reference, but a Pre-Nazi buddhist thing...

heh I've watched some episodes of Hellsing. In general I'm ok with some vampire shows like Vampire Hunter D etc. but this one gave me bad vibes very quickly, let's say in less than a few seconds of watching the opening? But that's just me, though.

It's probably the immensely dark feeling to it, hungry vampires, a crazy dud yielding one gigantic gun  , blood, undeads, language....stuff like that. But for sure, I won't recommend it to my brothers and sisters in Christ.

If you're still soliciting Christian opinion, CAA officially does NOT support this title.

What does this place, and I mean WE... support? Has there been any kind of vote upon "Anime officially supported by the CAA" or anything like that? Perhaps one can be made?

I happen to be a Christian who personally likes Hellsing and NGE as interesting anime stories, but I wouldn't support them "officially" for the CAA for recommendation for viewing by most Christian anime fans. (I just don't want to be judged as "less holy than the rest of us" because I happen to have enjoyed those titles).

I mean... there could be a thread voting on certain titles... for a majority vote. I think the majority would support titles like "Trigun", and "Haibane Renmei", and "Inuyasha" (for those who don't mind watching things based on a totally non-Christian mythology), "Spirited Away" (same deal), Azumanga Daioh, ect..

???

Well, by officially, I mean that as a staff we have certain stances on particularly controversial anime titles. This is to keep our "official" stance as a ministry seperate if need be from the individual stances...for example, if a concerned parent came here researching NGE, they could see that the administration does not approve it, but the members themselves are mixed. See? As for titles we'd officially approve...well, we ARE working on a list. One of our many projects.

very interesting...
still, I wouldn't want to wear that thing on my gloves (or light a whole city block with that pattern, either).
As for the series, I like Hellsing and am buying the manga books as they get churned out. (though the manga translation is just horrid...)Anyways, I see it as simply dark, gory twisted fun. Which I like. In an odd way. Although some parts of the comic are simply just mean.Particularly on Alucard's part. But I like Alucard.

I love Hellsing.Alucard is one of the coolest characters I've ever seen.Me as a Christian I see nothing wrong with it.The pentagram is one minor thing seeing as how it's only purpose is to bind him to the Hellsing family. And the violence and gore and language is graphic but so is everything nowwa days.So yeah I love it

No good can possibly come from this anime. I think the bible says to stay away from filthiness.

Nothing wrong with it really.Every tv show or movie in our time tries to be the most violent or graphic one

And that is your opinion. Allow others to judge for themselves with there own conviction. Think of it this way....I see judging by your sig you are into martial arts. The Bible says that we should turn the other cheek. Thus, why would you need to defend yourself in combat? See how quickly things can get spun? Personaly, I enjoyed Hellsing. I found the language a bit rough...no worse really then any typical R rated movie...but it has been noted. So I would warn anyone interested in it about that. But to go around all but saying God said not to watch Hellsing...thats really not up for you to decide. Everyone should allow the Holy Spirit to convict them on things...not you.

Shatterheart, with all do respect, if you see someone getting mugged in a dark ally, do you simply walked by knowing you could have saved the person? If it's happening to you and there are no means of escape do you allow yourself to be beaten to death? This one thinks not. And it's not about enjoying a cartoon show- not whether or not we like it (even I want to see Hellsing Love Hina and could easily barrow the manga from a friend), it's whether or not our veiwing is right before the eyes of the Lord.
Well, I've said enough. I'm finished with this thread.

Thank you for totaly missing my point. My point was, because you feel somthing is wrong does not make it wrong for everyone. I decided to use your logic by throwing a scripture at you with a spin on it. Now, if you can get over yourself enough for a moment to see my point...you will be better off for it. As far as whats right before the eyes of our Lord. Again I say, thats up to how the Holy Spirit convicts you. Whats not up to you, is for you to become the morality police and run around telling everyone what is right and wrong. Because guess what, everyones convicted differently and your not God. Sorry if I hit a nerve with your martial art habbits.

Domo Gomen Nasai, Gomen Nasai! It was a misunderstanding on my part. *Bows* I was over myself, but was rather zealous... and no offense taken about my martial arts... It's just that not amny things make any sense around here... *Quitely walks off, deeply pondering...*

Based on everything I've heard (especially the review on this site), Hellsing is probably the last anime in the world that I would ever watch.

Maasharu, I deleted your post for a few reasons. Number one, you are not a moderator or an administrator of this site , so you have no authority to decide to mediate an argument. Number two, the "argument" had already been settled, and you stirring it back up and shaking fingers (albeit at both ends) was totally uncalled for and absolutely unneccessary; such behavior is frowned upon here even by more veteran members. It is the staff and the staff's job alone to moderate disagreements and settle disputes, not yours.

Consider this your first warning not to play mod when you have no right to. If you want to take this matter up further, I ask that you PM me instead of replying.

You should probably wait longer than a minute for replies. Also, there are some other Inu Yasha threads that probably have what you are looking for.

Since you're new you should make a thread in the Who's Who section if you want to meet people.

personally I thought the anime dwelled alot more on the occultish symbols than the manga did. The manga is very very violent, however I can handle violence. I have watched about 3 episdoes of the anime and it was just too much. There was sex, homosexuality, the occultish things are magnified by alot. It made me rather uncomfortable, while the manga doesn't.

If you don't mind violence as much (like... a little more blood than the human body actually holds) I'd recommend the manga and suggest you stay away from the anime. In my opnion, the manga goes more deeper than the anime does, and despite the violence, the story is better portrayed.

I have this theory that anime characters, or even perhaps the Japanese themselves, actually have nine gallons of blood instead of pints. Of course this mean that they also have incredibly high blood pressure (which accounts for all the blood spray). They could probably put out the fire of a burning house with a paper cut.

I watched it it was all right but I think that If There was only two animes left on earth hellsing and hamtaro I would probably watch hamtaro . And I dont usally watch hamtaro. I mean Its a good idea but they take some concepts to far. Lots of bad language And I personally believe that malcontent can be communicated with out f words. There are other things to talk about this show but so be it it would take along time
