CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

Do you learn of new anime from your friends or just search for animes you might like on general anime sites or maybe you just find out about it when it comes out in your local store? So how do you find new animes?

On an unreklated note this is my 666th post.

I find out about anime via this site and just browsing the anime section of JB Hi-Fi (an entertainment shop in Australia). That's any anime in general, but I find out about new anime the same way. I don't have any off-line friends that are anime fans but I have showed some of my friends all of Last Exile over sometime and they really enjoyed it apart from being confused sometimes.

Combination of several things. Online sites that deal with anime news, occasional readings of NewType Magazine, some fansub recomendations, browsing anime titles at several different locations and then researching them at a number of review sites.

I browse the internet and read articles, reviews, and message boards for hours and hours and hours. . .

My method is weird.... I go by alphabetical order. I simply log on to a site like Animenation and see which series is alphabetically next. I subsequently check them out till I find one that looks interesting, and if the series is completely released, I buy it. (But I order it from somewhere cheaper)

I use a sort of sixth sense built from my impressions of the way a given title is marketted and how people react to it. If the show is the light then people are the mirror.

And finally, I usually try and download an AMV of the current anime I'm looking at.

My typical sources of info on getting into new series that I haven't seen yet usually lie in either trailers I see on discs for other shows, or just in the stuff I see at Best Buy. If I see something that piques my interests, I might ask friends about it, but usually I go to http://www.animeondvd.com to see what they're reviews have to say. In my opinion they're usually somewhat on the ball in discerning good quality shows from bad, though of course I've disagreed with them before whether on an entertainment factor or moralality-oriented factor :-) I also pay attention to what different companies or licensing companies are doing.

Sometimes I wonder too. O.o

I download fansubs usually and if I like what I see, I will continue on with that series and if I don't like it, it get the recycle bin. Just make sure you are downloading unlicensed anime so that way it is leagl.

TV or from other people. I don't just go for any anime, though. I have this thing about finding really "unique" stuff.

How do I find the anime I watch? Usually I open the disc case... hey, there it is

the "anime hint" feature on anidb.net isn't too bad if you're looking for ideas.

Well, my favorite show ever was found through channel surfing one day...XD I usually have to stick with whatever's being shown on tv, at least until I get the chance to go to Blockbuster, haha. I don't buy much anime as it's so expensive, but I have been considering downloading some...I usually stick to manga when it comes to new series, and if I like it enough, I'll buy the anime. And all of my manga suggestions come from here, since there's such a great review system! ^_^

Ahh yes, God Bless the man who invented the anime section at Blockbuster, no matter how big or small it may be...

Mostly I rent it. Living near a university, there is enough of a student population to support at least one D&D/hobby store with a large anime rental section. Of course, this also means that we have an anime club (showings once a month during the regular school year). And yes, I can also rent from Blockbuster.

I use many resources...

1)Internet: Browse random anime review sites and read things that look interesting. I usually read a bunch of different reviews to get a better overall feel for the anime/story. Then I do a search for images to see if it looks like my cup-of-tea. Maybe a trailer if possible.

2) Friend suggests something. Then I'll search it using step 1.

3)Accident or stumbling upon it: Sometimes I'll be in a store scrolling through anime dvd's. If I see something that catches my eye, I'll read the back. Then if I'm still interested I'll take note of the title and do a review search (step 1 again).

4)AMV: yep, sometimes I'll download random AMV's and if it looks interesting, I'll try to watch the series.

Here in Austin we actually have 2 anime rental places

They carry almost every anime dvd licenced. Though usually they only carry one of each title, so sometimes it's a waiting game for the next person to return them. But heck, it's much better then nothing.

Newtype. I read the reviews there, and if I like the anime, I look more into it. Or I stalk the 'Guess the anime picture!' threads on fourms and I look for an interesting looking anime...XD

NewType is an Awesome Magazine!! I bought one for the first time a month or 2 ago. I t has alot of god info.

....anything that's based on a Sakura Kinoshita manga I'll watch. XD; Usually I find stuff by word of mouth, or by finding pretty pictures on the internet and looking the series up.

Hmmmmmm...I ask on these forums, and check a bit around on aniDB and AnimeOnDVD

I mainly know about anime via Amercan style comics I read (the ads), and ToyFare (sometimes I like to look at magazines about toys, since I like toys), as well as visiting JB Hi-Fi and EB Games to see what new titles are out.

Once I see something, the first thing I zoom in is on the rating and the type of content it contains. Then if the rating and contents seem ok I flip to the back and read the description.

If that sounds interesting enough for me (a good plot, promise of character development, good vs evil - this is a big plus for me!), I convince myself that I should part with the money in my wallet ...

I have an anime-finding device built into my cell-phone - it can track random discs of anime. Sounds handy, doesn't it? Unfortunately it gets agitated whenever DragonBallZ comes on in the afternoon.

Seriously, I order them on-line if enough people say good things about them.
