One Piece DVD

I realize a "One Piece" thread has already been made, but I'm being a bit more specific on this topic.

Basically, I finally discovered about when the Uncut DVDs are coming. I'm really thinking the original is probably better.

I mean, if they fix the voices, intros, and make no editing, it'll probably be worth it (even if they don't change Zoro's name), but then I discovered something on the first volume that ticked me off.

Running Time: 66 mins.

I'm trying to collect 230+ episodes of this show, hopefully in a good dubbing, and you give me only three episodes per disc?!

So, yeah, probably won't be going for that. It depends really...

Oh, and has anyone gotten ahold of eaither downloaded fansubs or bought the original DVDs?

Yeah I've seen it uncut on subs... too scared to watch in dubbed though!

Hey if you think 3 eps per disk is bad, in Japan that's the avarage for every show! So even Inuyasha over there has only 3 eps per disk :/ (But yes, it IS very sucky either way!)

But I heard that Toei beign weird with their anime properties, isn't letting North America bring out the uncuts. I mean, they DID take away our uncut Sailor Moon now! Glad I picked them up before the licening expired... I wonder if it's also connected to the Sailor Moon manga that have mysteriously dissapeared off the face of Tokyopop's site... (which itself wasn't very uncut with the names^^)

Grr! Can't they just let us have our orginal versions?? I bet if Toei actually sat down and WATCHED the dubs, it would make them cry v_v

I have to watch it dubbed every Saturday. That's the curse of having no cable, money, or a good internet connection. -_-

Did you see the uncuts from downloads?

I've not heard anything about an actual uncut One Piece release and I regularly frequent anime sites and forums.

That said, the English One Piece hackjob is rapidly turning into a confusing mess. They have skipped or spliced together a number of episodes and have even skipped an entire arc. They are on episode 60-something when they should be in the 40s/50s. This has been the worst dub since Cardcaptors. And strangely enough, they have let Shaman King get away with more than they have let One Piece.

As far as episode count is concerned, Tenshi no AI is correct in that a minimal amount of episodes per disk is common in Japan. Such shows are generally quite expensive to license anyway so American companies put only a few episodes on each disc so that they can make a profit.

It's official. There's an uncut version coming out, the first in September and the second in November. If I can locate where I found it, I'll post it here.

Wait, so then where are they now? (I missed like the past three episodes)

So then what would be the best suggestion for getting a hold of this show (the good version)? Bootleg, download, or what?

I'm wondering if the uncuts are going to be good.

I downloaded the original intro and it had what was suppose to be the original English song. It wasn't a straight translation but it fit the "We Are" music very well and just sounded so much better than the rap version.

If the uncut gets the right intros and voices, I'll probably end up getting it.

...so when is it?

I'm loving One Piece so far, but I will under no circumstances watch 4Kids repulsive, butchered dub. Down with 4Kids!

...

Great, now they are skipping the entire Little Garden arc and heading straight to Drum and Alabasta. What with skipping entire arcs and severally splicing together the arcs that they leave, the One Piece dub might well be caught up to the Japanese episodes by sometime next year, if this keeps up...

And yet, they skipped very little in Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh...two anime that are quite a bit more repetitive...

As a side note, Princess Vivi's dub voice wasn't too bad compared to some others...but the acting needs to improve.

And yes, the original had catchy openings...

Ack, a rap intro...I'd probably have a stroke if I heard it. I hate rap already, but using it to butcher One Piece's opening? That takes it to a whole new level. ><

...so when is it?

Er, September 14 or 17 or somewhere aroudn there, I believe. I don't remember the exact site I found it on (just try something like "One Piece DVD Release Date"). The second one will be in November.

I got used to it, but the originals really are better. I like some forms of rap (but not ghetto).

Isn't that were they're suppose to battle Mr. 3 and Miss, uh, Goldenweek was it (the one with the paints)?

I'm convinced they have a new director or something working on these. From what I've seen, this ended up being the worst editing they've ever done on a series.

Yeah. Though at first I thought "How old is she suppose to be?" O_o

Is this what you are talking about?

I see nothing that indicates that it is uncut. Quite the contrary actually, if the "Age Rating:ALL" label and the stupid looking covers are any indication.

I believe so. Which leads to more plot holes that they will have to cover up...

*cries* I wanted to see this uncut, but only 3 eps per dvd on the uncut version!? T____T

Same DVD, but not the same site I found it on. The one I saw definetly said "uncut" on it.

Well, it still might be good. They called him "Zoro" and not "Zolo", so maybe...

Well, I hope uncut One Piece has better luck than the other "uncut" stuff, namely yugioh and shaman king. 3 disks in for Yugioh, then I find out it has been indefinitely delayed. Needless to say, I was very unhappy :(

So good luck, you're gonna need it :)

That one's dub only. ><

Crap...

Well, I did find this site where you can each "season" of the show in sets for a fairly good price. They were the orginial subbed versions and were "Region Free". That means they'll work on any player, right?

Also, for those who have seen in the original, how exactly does Luffy's voice sound? O_o

Ah-ha!

http://www.animenation.com/d-op001.html

This says "13+", which seems to pretty much mean "uncut", no?

Of course, I still gotta see if it's actually a good translation...

Probably not.

I would take that with a grain of salt as age ratings on websites can often be far too vague to be taken seriously. Especially if it isn't on the direct website of the actual publisher...

And that box art is still far too "kiddy" to be uncut...

At any rate, if it were really uncut, the news would probably be all over the internet by now.

Yeah, the box art does suck. Well, if that's how I guess imports would work.

Um, would a place like this be reliable for getting original DVDs? And the prices seem good, but I dunno...

Afraid not. http://store1.yimg.com/I/animenation_1861_73409796 Look closely at the text at the bottom left. "English TV Version". ><

Looks like a bootleg store to me. I could be wrong, but that's how it looks.

From the looks of things, bootleg maybe the best I can do, unless anyone here knows of a better place. :/

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp sells import One Piece DVDs, but they are Region 2 and expensive.

What about this site? The prices seem "reasonable" and it doesn't appear to be quite as "bootleg" as that other one.
