Tsume cosplay ideas

Hey everyone, I'm going to be cosplaying Tsume from Wolf's Rain next March at Sakura Con in Seattle. For those of you who've seen what he looks like or have seen his outfit, I have a question: what would be the best way to go about making his top/vest/long sleeve piece? The main idea I've had is to find a regular leather vest and then find some leather material to sow to the lower part of the vest sleeves. That would still leave the top of the sleeves open, which I'd tatter a bit to make them look worn. Anyways, just through this out there, let me know your thoughts/ideas!

I never thought of a Tsume cosplay outfit...but now I do think about it, it would be difficult to make. Your idea sounds good. Sorry I'm not much help :(
"Ah, look, Kouryuu...the birds are returning north. Can you see? ...Kouryuu. Who do you suppose decided birds are free? They can fly wherever they choose...but if there's no branch for them to return to...they might regret having wings, don't you think? Perhaps true freedom...is having a home to return to."
