ARGH! ADV does it again!

Once again, ADV has licensed another one of its crappy, poor-selling titles to a cable TV company. First, it was Super Milk-Chan. Then it was Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. Now they've licensed Colorful. When is ADV going to stop licensing its crappy titles and start letting us see their good stuff? Do they WANT to get a reputation as the worst company in the business? :shake: :comp: :bang: Please, ADV, please stop doing this and do what your competition does, namely, license titles they KNOW we'll LIKE, not stuff we'll HATE!

ADV Titles

What are some of the good ADV titles? I don't pay much attention to the company names of anime I watch.

I've seen a few snippets of Super Milk-Chan. It looked very dumb and boring. I flipped the channel after a few minutes.

Generator Gawl is a good one the ADV puts out. So is Azumanga Daioh. Now, why won't they use these instead? Heh... if I knew that, I'd... um... know that.

Matantei Loki Ragnarok and tactics are ADV (much to my chagrin), as is Saiyuki and Chrno Crusade, all titles that I enjoy immensely.

And IMHO, I think it's too late - I've already got ADV marked as one of the worst out there.

ADV sure is trying hard, though.

See, they don't get it. Why did Geneon license Trigun, Tenchi Muyo, Last Exile, Samurai Champloo, Serial Experiments Lain, et al.? They knew these shows were hits and would be good business. Bandai licensed their Gundams, Cowboy Bebop, s-CRY-ed, and Crest/Banner of the Stars, et al. for the same reason. Same thing with FUNimation. They all knew it was the best titles that got business, not the worst. You pick the titles you KNOW people will ENJOY! Then the viewers'll buy them.

Great anime series. Get it. Now.

While I don't know all of the logistics and technical details about how companies license their shows to cable companies, one reason that ADV hasn't put out its very best may be due to the fact they are a huge affiliate with the Anime Network cable TV channel, and I know for a fact that they're newest, hottest, most popular, and "best" shows air on that channel (i.e. Chrono Crusade, Saiyuki, RahXephon, Peacemaker, etc.). Thus, any other channels are left with the "table scraps". Oh and by the way, probably the only reason Generator Gawl (while I greatly enjoyed it) isn't aired at all is simply due to the fact that it's quite old. Anyways, just my thoughts on the debacle :-)

Colorful debuts on August 13 at 9:00 Pacific and then repeats at
1:00 a.m. Pacific Monday August 15.I'm not sure but I believe the reason
why they aren't airing the normal 10:00 Pacific/1:00 Eastern time slot is
probably because of Gphoria?

Any way I take exception to what was said about Magical Shopping Arcade
Abenobashi.I found it to be rather hilarious.Except for the parts where there
was nudity it wasn't all that bad.And even those parts were more like they
were taken from Mad Magazine(just note the artwork in especially the
Hollywood parody ep.) :jump:
I suppose Mad isn't everyone's cup of tea either, but that is what MSAA
reminded me of in certain parts.
And anyway that scene with Arumi being chased by the giant chicken
is hilarious! :thumb:

The negative statments of ADV just make me wanna watch Colorful
even more than before. :thumb:

Actually, Colorful was licensed a long time ago and has been on the shelves over a year. There are several copies that have been gathering dust at the Best Buy near where I live. G4 announced recently that they would be airing Colorful. Having no desire to see it before, it's not one I would watch on the airwaves.

4Kids gets stuff they know will be a hit. They just edit the crap outta them. :/

And that's something I don't get. They cut all the guns out from One Piece and replaced them with cork guns, super soakers, and other wierd devices, but they left all the guns the Arch Angels use in Shaman King. What's with that? O_o

Worse than ADV?
AnimEigo wins that one hand down with crap rendering, bad subs and erratic releases

Bandai discs hang up a lot for me

Manga is garbage

Viz goes 3 eps a disc

Actually, sad as it is, ADV is one of the best distributors out there.. by default

Well, on a grade scale, I'd say ADV gets a D- to the F grade of the others... hence by default.

At least it's not VHS, where the AnimEigo ones were so cheap, I estimate I had to return 1 tape in 5 for an exchange... parts would ROUTINELY fall out of the cassette...

xD I suppose you're right. I'm tougher on ADV since I 1) buy the most from them 2) they have Loki and tactics.

Come to think of it...Bandai...ugh. x_X Not a Bandai fan. The one disc that's ever seized up on me was my copy of Escaflowne the Movie. And I'm not happy with what they did with the Pilot Canidate/Canidate for Goddess DVDs. The subtitles were just the script for the dub. ==;;;

Actually, I think ADV has some of the best acting in Dubdom... I love the Dub of Nadesico, and... Well, I'm SURE there have been others...

And Milk-chan was... Interesting... There were a couple of funny scenes in the ep I saw...

I've never seen Colorful, but it was almost a given that abenobashi was put on CN... It's the successor to FLCL... *sigh*

Yeah... I wish that Nadesico would be put on AS, but it's just not "adult" enough I guess... Evangelion would have fit for AS, but... Well, I would be VERY surprised if EoE got on even Adult Swim... No 14 year old should watch that... Back to Abenobashi, as bad as the Anime was, the manga is like 100 times worse... So, yeah, no 14 year old bla bla bla...

In answer to the original question... They're probably licensing out the garbage because they're keeping the good stuff for the ADV-owned Anime Network.

The problem with that philosophy is that newbies who can't get the Anime Network will think ADV only has terrible stuff and not want to try any of their good stuff. And they do have some: Blue Seed, Voices of a Distant Star, Samurai X: the Motion Picture. (But that's just what I've seen)

Exactly, ADV looks like the worst licenser in the business but in fact there not. Tokyopop isnt very good in my opinion. I mean they have like 11 titles and a lot of them are crap...(Reign the Conqueror, Saint Tail.)

Evangelion is going to be on Adult Swim starting Oct. 20th.

Have all you forgotten that Full Metal Panic is from ADV. Full Metal Panic is one great series .

Doesn't count. Farscape, although it's cool, is not Japanese.

Yes but I think ADV licenses it and no-one said that the discussion was limited
only to JAPANESE shows licensed by ADV!:)
