I'm going to wait till I get an answer from Chloe, seeing as how she wrote the review, and gave the sexual content a 1/10.

I haven't seen the whole series, but there's a review for that on the site, and I don't remember anything like that.
Are you sure it was Noir you were looking at...?

Review.
The review doesn't seem to note anything like that. Your guess is as good as mine.

I was curious too because I didn't know if my daughter should see this. So I checked out the review here and also looked at Them Anime to see what they had to say. Here is just a small portion:
Recommended Audience: Definitely teens and up. Very, very violent (it's screened at midnight in Japan) with deaths in every episode and implied child rape and torture. While there's obviously a deep bond between Kirika and Mireille, there's nothing to imply that they are homosexuals. However, certain ladies in the show did share a kiss or two. While younger audiences may just watch for the sheer style, it takes a mature mind to understand why the characters are doing what they are doing. And lives of assassins are nothing to be glorified.

Unless your daughter is an older teen, I'd probably hold off on Noir for a while. Kirika and Mirielle are not homosexual at all and do not kiss each other (thankfully). The two female kisses are not exactly willing ones. The first is the symbolic 'beso de muerto' (I THINK I spelled that correctly - any native Italian speakers our there?) or Mafia 'kiss of death' symbolizing a 'hit' or contract has been placed on someone's life - a kind of 'judas kiss'. The second kiss is more problematic since it's stolen during bath time, and the one who steals the kiss from the rather gormless other girl is a bit fixated on her.
The child rape/torture is implied extremely subtly. You see a child being grabbed by a soldier, then you see her lying (clothed) on a cot, but you don't see anything actually happen to her.
That's pretty much what the THEMANIME review was referring to. I also think there was a shower scene where you see Mirielle's shape but no real details, but I'm a little hazy on that one.
Hope this helped! I tend to block out the bad stuff about an anime when I'm remembering one.

In a spoiler box, could someone tell me which characters this second kiss is between?

Well, I'd like to know what exactly I'm possibly buying before I get it so my mom doesn't freak.

Hmm.... it's been awhile since I've seen Noir, although there is violence I can't really recall any sexual situations. *ponders*

I do commend you, Destroyer, for checking stuff out before you buy. No one on the LJ anime community ever understood why I do that...
Yeah, my friend tends to block out the bad stuff in movies and such. She literally doesn't remember it. Too bad I have a photographic memory...

Sigh. I don't know how to do spoiler boxes. Can I give hints? It's the character whose name begins with a 'C' who leans over and plants one on the completely unresponsive character whose name begins with a 'K'.
If anyone knows how to do spoiler boxes - help! (Does it have anything to do with that 'Go Advanced' icon at the bottom of the Quick Reply box???)

I tried to PM you this but I guess you have your PM settings shut off.
Anyway, spoiler boxes use this code: [*spoiler] blah blah text here
just without the *
No, it has nothing to dow ith the "Go Advanced"--that gives you options like changing fonts, managing attachments, and inserting emoticons whose shortcuts you have not already memorized

I've got the boxset also and I think its more "intense thriller" than anything else. I don't recall frontal nudity at all. There is one woman who kisses Mirelle (but its a mafia kiss - similar to the Judas Kiss) and the other one is Chloe who kisses Kikira. Chloe is a bit infactuated with her. I personally think this is one of the cleaner mature anime out there. I think anyone 15 years and over should be alright seeing it, as long as they are mature enough.
Okay regarding the "problematic" kiss between Kirika and Chloe, let me give you my opinion/observation. If you've seen the entire series, then take some time and reflect on the characters. Chloe's entire sense of belonging and existence seems to be wrapped around the coming together of the true Noir. In others words, this seems to be all that she lives for, because in a way Altena has brainwashed her to feel this way. When she finally sees this goal in sight with Kirika's agreeing to return with her to Altena's domain, one can only imagine how this makes her feel. I mean think about it, you'd be beyond elation if something that you've lived your entire life thus far to see happen is finally happening right? Thus I come to my point: the kiss she gives Kirika in the bath scene I feel has no actual sexual motivation behind but more a feeling of "completion" on Chloes part; I took it as her finally feeling complete and in unity with her life's passion, obsession, ambition, or whatever you want to call it. Call it an expression of finality or unity for her. Anyways, that's what I took from it after pondering it for quite some time. Another thing to think about is this: if the show's creators were pushing for any kind of homosexual themes or messages, wouldn't they have maybe done it much earlier in the show rather than popping one "suggestive" scene in the last disc? Anyways, that's just my take on Chloe's character and this particular event. Let me know if this makes any sense to the rest of you :-)
I agree eva, that sounds plausible and more suited to the show's style.

Thanks Ashley and Yumie for the 'how to' on spoiler boxes! Sorry I had my PM setting shut off (er, what's a 'PM'? - I'm a bit technophobic here! Anything with an acronym scares me!)
And yes, Destroyer 2000, it was Chloe and Kirika, as Warrior4Jesus so ably pointed out.
To eva-boy7985 (pause while trying out nifty spoiler box option)
Actually, I too didn't sense anything overtly sexual about Chloe's kiss. It seemed more a spontaneous wow, I'm happy we're here completing our destined goal in life so I'm celebrating by kissing you sort of a thing. However, it's still two girls kissing, which could really weird some people out. It weirded me out a bit, considering how jealous Chloe was of Mirielle and Kirika's friendship, but I think you're right and the jealousy wasn't because she had a crush on Kirika, but because she wanted that sort of comrades-in-arms friendship with Kirika for herself because as you mentioned, she's been brainwashed to believe that she and Kirika are the true Noir team.
As for the show's creators pushing a homosexual agenda, I read somewhere that the women on the creative team had an influence on how Noir was made and they were constantly criticizing the guys for the bits of fanservice that crept in, so I doubt they'd have allowed anything like that.
Your opinion made perfect sense, and thank you for it!
Hope the spoiler box thingy worked! Thanks again Ashley and Yumie.

A PM is a private message. Kind of like email, except it's only on CAA.
