Well, recently I have been watching "Zatch Bell" every saturday on Cartoon Network. I have found it to be very interesting and enjoyable. It is steadily becoming one of my favorite anime series, actually. Has anyone seen the original series that aired in Japan? If so, was much changed for the United States release? Also, has anyone read the first volume (or more) of the manga? Is it worth reading after seeing the CN anime on TV? I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. I wasn't able to find it.

I must also admit that I've become a fan of the show too. At first, I didn't know what to expect and thought it be a dud. But after watching a few episodes I thought the story was quite interesting; kind of grows on ya. The main characters are likable and the plot is quite interesting too. The funny part is that initially I thought Zach was a girl because of the dress and all.
But I'm curious about how many episodes there are... is it 26 eps?

Yeah, it kind of grew on me as well. At first I thought it was just mediocre at best. Then after watching a few episodes, I grew to really like it alot. I am now planning on purchasing both the DVD's (first one in November) and the manga. Cartoon Network got the rights for 52 episodes and there are over 90 episodes in Japan.

I thought the first volume of the Zatch Bell manga didn't drop until around late July? Ah well, after reading the premise, I'm curious to check this show out. I really want to see it.

Facts about this series:
-Original name is Konjiki no Gash Bell! which translates to Golden Gash Bell!
-The manga, by Makoto Raiku, is serialized in Shonen Sunday which makes it a "sister series" to Inuyasha and Detective Conan.
-Anime is over 100+ episodes and counting.
-Manga is 20+ volumes and counting.
-The show has gotton extremely good ratings in Japan, usually placing in the top ten, often higher than even Naruto.
I read a bit of the manga in one of Viz's Sneak Peak volumes a couple months back. I might check it out when it's released. From what I understand, Viz/Shopro's dub of the anime remains fairly accurate or at least, much more accurate than 4kids hackjobs. They edited some things to keep in line with Cartoon Network standards obviously, and they changed most of the original music, I believe. But generally, fans don't seem to be complaining about it particularly.

Thanks for the information! Hopefully, Viz will release an uncut version of the anime on DVD with the original openings and endings. It also looks like the first Zatch Bell graphic novel won't be out for a bit longer.

ahh, man... I don't want to wait another 3yrs to see the conclusion of the series
. Hot-diggity-Dang. When series become more then 45eps it gets pretty expensive to collect and I tend to get a bit antsy waiting to see what happens next. I think it was probably possible for the makers of Zach to condense the series to about 45-50 episodes and stilled allowed the audience to take away the same effect. Maybe?

I've only seen a few episodes, but I enjoyed what I saw. Some things in it look a little wierd too me, but it's still pretty good.
Still, I find it kinda funny to hear Jimmy Neutron's voice on the dub. XP

You might be suprised. It suits Zatch very well, in my opinion. I have found that a voice actor for a character that I am not very fond in one show often sounds really good in another series. Also, the dub uses some very good voice actors for other roles. I still am rather impatient for a subbed version though. I generally prefer subtitles with only a few exceptions.

Colleen O'Shaughnessy, she does several other cartoons as well as the voice of Genis Sage in Tales of Symphonia.

Just thought you should know to be careful what you wish for. I just hope the DVD version continues to edit the fact that Zatch is buck naked under that dress!

Yeah, the voice actually works pretty well on Zatch. It just makes him sound like this funny little kid.

I really like zatch bell too; it's one of the only anime i watch regularly; between work and school I don't have a whole lot of time, so I watch it because it's more funny; many other anime just depress me more, and with life being so busy, I don't feel as though I have time for them, though I love watching them anyway. So I'm happy zatchbell is coming out in the U.S. - it's rather refreshing, really.

My favorite Mamoto/Human team aside from Zatch/Kyo is Tea/Megumi!
*Let's all dance to Folgore's Ditty*

I really quite like Zatch Bell, it's quite ... different at times but funny and even sad when it is supposed to be. my mom watch one of the shows with me and we laughed out heads of when it showed two young children (male and female) no older than 11 for directions, when they agreed the next scene showed the brother and sister in his car riding along into the distance (good thing he was a good guy or that might have been a bad influence on young children). We couldn't help joking about it by saying "could you give me some directions" "sure I'll just get into your car would you like me in the trunk?"... Lol it was so wrong. But I do with all my heart love Zatch Bell. ^.^

Funny thing is at the start Kiyo doesn't have any friends and now he has
at least three different girlfriends!
Suzie
Megumi
Lori

Lol, why is zatch in a dress??? so wack. I love the series though, totally crazy and funny. I bet people don't like it because they take it serrious, and don't stop at the beggening and go "oh its about little deamons." The series is great and more people need to give it a chance.

Think Suzie will ever get her own Mamodo? That'd be crazy! And I hope we get to see Apollo/Rock again soon. I know we should see Sherry/Braggo again. I hope Sherry's as good as she's made us think she is.
