If you're the hero, you may get shot, but never any injury that would prevent you from beating the big boss.

- never walk down dark alleys (GetBackers and a lot of other anime)
- disco lights always accompany exorcisms preformed with the ultimate 9-word chant (Tactics)
- Loki + laser gun = death (Matantei Loki Ragnarok)
- never trust mail order catalogues. (Matantei Loki Ragnarok)
- there's always time for talk. ALWAYS. Especially during a fight that could determine the fate of the world (a lot of anime)
- small children should not be allowed to pierce ears.

*nodnod* Most definitely. Where would we be without our pleasant chatter in the midst of a battle?

Jupiter is actually solid and can be cut in half-Getter Robo: Armageddon.
An ugly female character is a villain, 99.9% of the time.
ANGST!

The hero will always stumble on a naked girl in a hot spring.
The hero will always get into impossibly wierd embarrasing sexual scenarios with his female companions.
Sweat drops signal embarrasment all around.
When people are excited/scared/extremely embarrased their mouths get huge, their arms flail, and their eyes bug out.

So true. XD
Everyone has some deep, painful past that is probably related to yours.
If the enemy seems to suddenly feel sorry, don't believe him! It is just a trap!
It is not unusual to wear the same clothes day after day.
No matter where you go, there will always be some pervert hanging around.

None of you are taking this very seriously, or these are just joking posts, or funny ones. I'm not going into mine. Anime can be...extremely depressing at times.

I've learned so much from anime, it's kinda scary. >.>; Like :
- Kids usually bring Bento Boxes to eat in the classroom o_o
- I often have the urge to say ' Domo Arigato ' to say 'thank you'
- Again, I have the urge to say ' GOMEN >_< ' when I say "SORRY >_<; "
- I've found in most anime, there is the Hero, the Sidekick, the love intrest who Ususally does NOT fall for the Hero at first but usually does at the very end, the ' Original Bad guy ' Then the Bad Guy who controls the bad guy and trys to take over the world/Kill the hero.
-- By the way, Destroyer2000, I'm not sure what you mean by not taking this thread seriously, since we are just talking about the things we've learned, whether they are funny or not. Maybe the people didn't intent for their comments to funny, but other people thought they were amusing. I do respect your opinion but don't bash what other people think just because you don't like it. --

You can always count on your favorite anime being cancelled when it's only half way through on AS.
From Inuyasha:If you're a 15 year old girl beware of going near old wells.
From Geneshaft:Having a brick on your shoulders doesn't help when
others are depending on you.
From Gundam Seed:Never make promises you can't keep(ala Kira's
promise to Flay that he would protect her father).
From Dual!Parallel Troubles Adventure:Piloting mecha can be fun!
From One Piece:Never eat anything you don't know what it is!
From Samurai Champloo:Don't bet against the skinny girl in the eating
contest!
From FLCL:BEware of strange women riding Vespas!

If you're a dorky guy surrounded by multiple pretty girls, they are all going to want you.
If you're a girl, you can kill a pervert with a slap, a kick, or a punch (heaven forbid a mallet), but if the bad guy gets you, you're helpless until the hero comes (even though you've probably already maimed him in at least one scene).
If the world is in peril, forget the adults - a group of 12 to 15 year olds will save us all.

If you're the villain, and at all good-looking, you're probably going to get your own fan club, while the hero not only has to deal with all the stuff the show throws at him/her, but may also have to put up with being more tolerated than liked.

Shatterheart - yeah, I finished Trigun and I agree with you that the vow could get pretty irritating at times, but that's what made Vash such an interesting character. And because it's anime things always seemed to turn out alright in the end. If he'd just cut to the chase and blasted everyone who opposed him, what would be the fun in that? And considering his skill with a gun, the episodes would have lasted about 20 seconds. 'Oh look, a bad guy. Bang. The End'.
I also had a sneaking admiration for Wolfwood. Though he was orally ambiguous, difficult to figure out whose side he was on most of the time, he was way more incisive than Vash.
Hey, I just came up with another lesson learned from anime: Decide what you're going to do and just do it!

The ultimate sword technique will have a name long enough that the size of the name itself will damage the enemy.
Also, the power of your techniques is in direct proportion to the volume with which you shout their names.
Swords can cut through the toughest of materials, but will only sometimes cut through another sword. They will occasionally be damaged by impact with other swords, but only in dramatic situations.

During any serious fight the female fighter will have most of her clothes torn off. This is important to know because clothes arent cheap and this may become a distraction during the fight. (Ikkitousen)

1) Anime guys are among the dumbest and densest individuals. Either they don't notice the girl - (Souske - Full Metal Panic), they want to kill the girl - (Heero - Gundam Wing), or for some inexplicable reason they like to tease the girl - (Bocca - Melody of Oblivian).
2) Chances are if you like the girl her life will be in peril at least once in the show
3) Mecha only run out of power when it provides the most dramatic tension
4) The hero is never piloting the most powerful mecha at show start.
5) Yelling a friends name doesn't bring them back or save them
6) The best assassins are cute girls
7) Girls with glasses rock and are often among the cutest female characters in the show - (Yayoi - Stellvia)
8) If you are tempted to see whats going on don't. You will inevitable get mixed up in some huge conflict that for some reason (which you will later learn) you are the only one that can resolve it - (Gundam Seed)
9) No matter how high the technology fighting will always include swords or other melee weapons - (Gundam)

On a more serious note, it was Tolkien that said stories are vehicles for truth; that is why his books contain such powerful Christian themes because he saw the messages of the Gospel as the best Story ever. Unlike other stories of a fictional nature, the Gospel as we know crossed over the lines of story into our own world and changed it as we know it. With this is mind, there's been some powerful stories in my life. Concerning anime, I don't think there's been any thus far that I've seen that haven't impacted me on a personal level (in a positive way) as much as RahXephon. Without giving spoilers, this show "opened up" something inside me, or in some way reminded me of something foundational and key to our needs as human beings: the power or unconditional and transcendant love and our deep-seated need for it, even if at times we forget that that need is there. That's not to say I wasn't aware of this before hand, as God's love for us is transcendant and unconditional, and it ultimately culminated in His giving His son over to die for our sins. However, that is another amazing thing about stories. They can take the same "message" or "point" that we've heard a thousand times over in church or in books and give it a "new life" depending on how it is presented. This is the joy of stories, whether they be anime, fiction books, movies, or whatever else. Any "good" story will contain elements of real world truth woven into the fabric of its foundation. Once that truth has been established, how the author conveys it through the rest of the story and the characters determines whether that truth is shown in its proper, and ultimately Scriptural light or it's distorted and "twisted". Such is the case with books such as The Lord of the Rings. Concerning Rahxephon (aside from some of the Mayan cultural "mysticism" that's used as more of a backdrop than anything else), the way the creators created Haruka's character and portrayed her love for Ayato was something that resonated deeply with me; also Ayato's determination and attitude of self-sacrifice portrayed in the "sad episode" (as to avoid spoilers) in disc 5 also impacted me to the point of not only crying, but practically weeping because of the sadness of it as well as the "beauty" of how it was done and put together. Anyways, as you can tell this show is highly recommended by me! Sorry for talking for so long. Just something I felt I should share, hopefully to everyone's benefit!

If you're the villain, never, and I do mean NEVER, make the hero mad. It will only lead to the hero seriously kicking your butt.

I thought you were being serious and not making a "stupid things we see in anime" type of thread, so I'm going to respond seriously...
I learned about traditional Japanese tea cerimonies, Tokyo Tower, Taiko, and the Japanese superstition about sneezing from Sailor Moon.
I learned about Saiyuki, the complex possibilities with puns, the difference in sensativities between the US and Japan, and a bit of Japanese mythology from "Urusei Yatsura", among other things...
I learned about life in Japan during WWII, the difference in ideologies under Bushido (and that a child may not always follow them, obviously), and that Animation can be used in a powerfull way from Hotaru no Haka aka Grave of the Fireflies
There is a lot more than that... These are just what I could think of off the top of my head... UY and the SM fansub contained incredible amounts of notes! I learned so much stuff off them, but I don't remember all i learned...

Some of the largest (in size) villains are the easiest to defeat. (Ruroken; Raijuuta and Senkaku)
Apparently, guitars are the strongest weapons ever created. (FLCL)
No one will think you look strange if you go around town with long gray hair and a bright red kimono (surely, it must be the baseball cap that hides it all!). (InuYasha)
Even if you ARE the Humanoid Typhoon, a small group of children will be able to wrestle you to the ground and make you bleed. (Trigun)
The lead female character(s) will always be able to land a hit and do damage to the lead male, especially if he's a student of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu. (Ruroken)
Robots have cute, high-pitched voices. (Ghost in the Shell)
Apparently, if you scream loud enough, you can get your way. (DBZ)
