If you could only pick one, what would it be? (this can also cover manga as well)

For me, obviously Cyberpunk. And action too.

Fantasy is probably my favorite. But it really doesn't matter to me, as long as it has a great plot and characters (and good music). I enjoy anime regardless of genres. But, yeah, fantasy/action is my favorite. Inuyasha, Princess Mononoke, Fullmetal Alchemist, et cetera. Come to think of it, anime doesn't really fit clearly into genres does it?

Drama is the best.

Or Go Nagai super-robot stuff. That's just funny.

A fantasy series or a series based on mythology will definitely make me happy.

Ouch, that's a hard question because I like so many types... but if I had to pick one, I would say my favorite genre would have to be sport animes: Hajime no Ippo, Slam Dunk, I'll CKBC, Princess Nine (there's a sport aspect :P ) and I'm about to start watching Prince of Tennis.

Drama would probably come in a very close 2nd...

Action or comedy. I can't decide. Wait, no--action with comedy! As long as it's clean.

Hm, probably something along the lines of action, but with character development, and it has to be rather clean. I'm not sure what that would be called, though.

Sci-fi is my favorite, though I also enjoy a bit of fantasy and comedy.

I'll watch anything with a good story, but Sci-Fi is my favorite (especially epic space operas)

Cyberpunk, most likely. Ghost in the Shell: SAC.

Sci Fi/Fantasy.Especially if it has a lot of humor and includes pretty girls who can
pilot mecha and is set in a parallel world with a confused boy living with a group
of girls who are all crazy about him and then throw in maybe a quest for a jewel shard with a half demon and a lecherous monk and a schoolgirl from the present
and a little fox demon and a lusty space pirate and a cabbit and two young adults
who are growing to love each other and a...Oh heck...That's about the combo of
all my fave shows right there except for Silent Mobius although I'll throw in the
coffee and the obnoxiously precocious Chinese teen!

Jidaigekki!

My FAVE: Jidaigekki!

Runner ups:
School Comedy. (Azumanga, Sensei no Ojikan, Gokusen - and don't forget FMP.)
SF/Space/Aviation series, but with little or no mecha.
(Outlaw Star, Starship Operators, Stratos-4, Planetes)
Fantasy: Juuni Kokki (yay!) Scrapped Princess)

I'd say comedy and drama/epic. Many shows seem to cross genres alot, mixing sci-fi with fantasy or mystery with cyberpunk, and similar situations. In finer detail, I tend to like "epic" type shows which are typically drama-oriented and apocalyptic in nature such as Wolf's Rain, Rahxephon, Evangelion (bit of an understatement on that one!), and other such shows. That's kind of what my main focus tends to veer towards. Sadly these kinds of shows are put out that often, but then again when something great does come along, it usually is profound and amazing. Regarding comedy, I like kind of psychotic stuff like FMP: Fumoffu or maybe Rune Soldier Louie, and I confess I also get a kick out of harem anime (provided the raunchiness isn't too insane) because seeing a typically good-natured guy go through absolute hell by usually being in the wrong place at the wrong time is well... stinking hilarious in my book. Love Hina rocks, the Tenchis, and Maburaho is pretty funny too, though it may be a bit too edgy since I haven't seen much of it and don't know alot yet since it hasn't been entirely released.

Cyberpunk styling. I like a dystopian future that still works normally... I think it's the best representation of what the future might be like.

Save-the-world genre. lol. I guess what I mean is anime with quests and a necessity of purpose that drives things along. (think Bleach, mai-hime, inuyasha, etc) but yeah...that kind of thing. if it's a genre..

Well if it has plenty of humor and at least one of the protagonist is a pretty girl...
You always need to have a pretty girl for a protagonist or else you are not going to get the vital mitsuki lover demographic!:)

Psychological is something I find more and more interesting. Paranoia Agent, (dare I say) Neon Genesis Evangelion, and so on. I think, someday, I want to see some of Satoshi Kon's famous thrillers. Action is okay, so long as it has a decent plot. Comedy is my other favorite. :D I love stuff like Magical Play, Dragonball (actually action/comedy), Tenchi Muyo!, that kind of thing. Shoujo/romance is okay. I don't think I've seen a pure shoujo-type anime yet, but if they ever make a Mars anime... *_* I can dream, right?

I suppose if there's any one particular categorization that I would call my favorite, it would probably be fantasy. However, I like anything that has a real adventurous quality to it, like the ones where you have to explore this world that the story takes place in, figuring out its environments, creatures and inner workings as the story goes along. Mix that with a killer plot and interesting characters and you have an anime that will probably knock my socks off, providing I'm not driven away by some moral issue.

Realistic drama (like Grave of the Fireflies)
Enigmatic (like Serial Experiments Lain)
Stupid comedy (like... Well, do I need to say it? Excel Saga! but only eps 1-13? (don't watch the Ropponmatsu ep...) and ep 17)

Actually, I haven't seen much of the first Genre.. I'd like to see more of it...

I've seen even less of the second one... Boogiepop is the only other one, in anime anyhow... As for movies, there's Jacob's Ladder, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Donnie Darko (and maybe Memento to a point, but not really) Enigmatic is a very small Genre and it's great to see it in Anime...

As for the third, a precurser to Excel Saga was Sexy Commando Sugoiyo Marusan and it was very crazy... At times it was crazier than Excel saga, but it did fall short overall... I love that one, too...
