Disappointing

Well, I guess it was a matter of time for it to happen. My local Suncoast is starting to carry hentai. I guess that makes Best Buy the only family friendly place left in the area to buy anime.
Still it's disappointing-- they had avoided it for so long. I guess I won't bother renewing my membership when it expires at the end of the month.

At my Best Buy, the anime is located right next to the porn and hentai. That's why i love Media Play. The closest porn and hentai is clear across the store.

Wait...
What?
My Best Buy has their anime next to the kids/family section and near the sci-fi/action sections...
I didn't think that Best Buy carried hentai in the actual store at least...but I've never looked so...

I think the lay out varies by location, 'cause there isn't any porn anywhere near the "anime section" in our store!

For awhile, my local FYE had the hentai mixed in with the regular titles as if there wasn't a difference at all. Then they seperated them and put them at the end of the row with the live action adult videos, and finally they reintegrated them, but put black warning covers on the hentai. This is really weird because the black covers stand out a lot and make it look like there's hentai everywhere. Methinks Christian anime public relations has some ground to make up.

Wow, where I am, Best Buy is the only place that
doesn't carry it (hope it stays that way). What makes Suncoast bad where I am is it's on the shelf with the normal anime, seperated only by thin plastic seperators. Someone could enter the hentai section without noticing at first-- that's what happened to me. My first clue was when I saw a box set labelled "La Blue Girl" and I was "What the...?" So I asked the manager who confirmed they decided to start selling it. Maybe they're trying to compete with the local Fry's (which is very extensive in that category), but in my case they lost a customer...

With mine, this was a recent development. I'd been going there for six years and only in the last month they started. I don't know if it's a trend or not...

So far I've only bought at Barnes & Nobles they have what anime they have in
the foreign section. No hentai as far as I could tell, then again the B&N I go to is in the mall so they do need to be more careful as to what they stock.

The mall doesn't seem to be a consideration where I live-- many stores that sell movies in the mall sell that junk

Be thankful that you guys actually have places that have an anime "section". Since taking an interest in my son's interest in anime, i've been to quite a few video/dvd shops, as well as the local variety stores (Target, K-mart etc). Any anime that is sold (not much!) is usually lumped in with kids movies etc. Now, i've seen the Ghost in the Shell movie, and it isn't for "kids".....

Many stores were like this in AMerica until very recently (a few still are actually). While we are glad for the improvement, I would prefer if the hentai stuff was more difficult to access. In the store I'm talking about, minors could look at this stuff without difficulty
(In case you were unaware, hentai is worse than the GitS and other mature titles. It is animated pornography-- literally)

Yes, I was aware of Hentai. I can understand why you don't want it mixed up with normal anime.

OK, sorry. From the original post, I thought you didn't. Didn't mean to lecture.
But yes, in some stores, you can find the stuff right next to the Hayao Miyazaki anime, and several times I've pulled a dvd from a shelf that had an unfamiliar title on the spine only to find it had a crass picture and a big 18+ emblazoned on the side.
...naturally this happens only when people are walking by.

My Suncoast does not mix hentai with anime but they do sell it. There are signs that say ask for it . I guess the keep it in the back storage.

Hmm, if I get the Encyclopedia Britannica and go to the article on "Piracy" will I find your picture?
j/k-- don't take that personally...

*shrug* Its just one of those things. It really would not bother me if it was like that around here. Are they actually mixing them, or are you just annoyed that they are carrying the stuff in the store?

Our Best Buy doesn't carry Hentai. >__> But all three of our Suncoast stores do. Right next to the anime section. Just look to your left, and viola! There's the hentai and general pornography shelves looking directly at you. Only a foot away.

It's annoying that they started carrying. I suppose I might have tolerated if it had always been there. But this is new-- and there are no safeguards...

In my area, it used to be that the major chains would not carry hentai but the stores that were less reputable would. I understand this is something that is not going away, but I am disappointed for the policy shift at Suncoast here.
Anyway, I certainly have no intention of going off like a nut against the place.

They keep that stuff behind the counter.
If they put it out? I don't care.

Hentai belongs in XXX stores only.

I would agree but where I am living Fry's carries a section of hardcore pornography-- not the soft stuff, so even though the city tries to run adult bookstores out of town, the question seems to be what's the point if you can buy it at chains...

This is just sad. It's like Porn is taking over the world.
I'm Renewing my membership to C.R.A.P. (citezens raging against porn).
Our goal is to sit there and look at people funny, it might not be much, but at least we support each other in knowing we're not alone.
There's nothing else a person can do. Turns out most porn is stored on perfectly legal porn servers, so you can't shut them down.
Porn and Hentai are a cheap solution to making money, who doen't buy it now a days? ug, filthy and disguisting. I'm just glad Kmart, Walmart, and Target don't sell it. We should get someone to make us a CRAP website, where we list stores that don't sell porn related products, get some attention, maybe change the name... lol... c.r.a.p...
I ain't doing any more new websites for a while.
True story a couple days ago my dad got a phone call from some people selling the Girls Gone Wild videos,so looks like no place is safe from those people.
