So first off, seeing how the title is 'Serial Expirements-Lain' are there others in the SE series? How was it content wise? I know the story, and it looks interesting...but I wanted to bounce it off you guys first.

The content is actually pretty good, though it's got some disturbing imagery due to the nature of the story. There's some minor language other than that. It's a 4 disc series. It's one of those shows that will have yout thinking through the entire thing; in other words, no rest for your weary mind! A buddy of mine and I watched it all the way through in one sitting and were both physically exhausted when it was over due to all of the craziness it puts you through. Thus, it's an excellent show because of how much you have to think. You need to be the kind of person that appreciates abstract entertainment, as there things in the plot that will still require some heavy thought and some of your own interpretation even after the last episode provides some closure. I highly recommend it however! Check it out and let me know what you think! It's done by the same people that did Haibane Renmei, which was an amazing anime! Hope this helps somewhat!

There is a
review of this series in the
review database , and I would suggest reading that for a detailed overview of the content. You should be aware that there is quite a bit of violence and that the series could be considered highly disturbing; also, there is some sexual content that is hinted at, but nothing explicit.
Aside from that, I agree that the series is good; it is definitely thought-provoking, which is something that I enjoy. However, I would only recommend it if the violence and disturbing content are not things that will bother you.

Beware that it can get confusing at times especially with all the various different
versions of Lain popping up all over the place. There is also the fact that Lain's best friend Alice(who I feel is the real unsung heroine of the series)is mentioned as
having an affair with a teacher(nothing is shown but Lain's other friends are seen
talking about it with Alice in one scene, but they don't know she's the girl in the
rumor).
All in all a rather good cyberpunk series, weirdness and all.

woops yeah sorry forgot about the affair thing. yeah, if anything it's just implied, nothing's actually shown. I include the violencd when I say disturbing imagery. All in all it's up to you and your convictions, but as myself and the others have said, it's a great brain-teaser!

Violence? There isn't really a whole lot of that in it. Almost every other anime I've ever seen is worse, violence-wise.
It can be difficult to follow, though. Serial Experiments: Lain is the only anime I'd actually recommend watching dubbed because the plot gets so weird so fast that it can be hard to keep up with unless you catch pretty much everything. So, trying to read all the subtitles puts you at risk of missing out on important information.
On the whole though, it really is a great series and since it's only four discs long (13 episodes), it's certainly well worth investing your time and money into.

The ending as to who or what Lain might actually be is left open.
