Aw, dang. I knew it had a some nasty bits, but I didn't know it bashed Christians.

Hm...didn't know about the Christian bashing part...watched the first 10 min and thought it was too boring. If it did occur in the first 10 min, then I must've not paid attention because it was so boring. (my opinion strictly) However, I did manage to catch the last 20 or so min when they were doing the underwater fights, that wasn't too bad.

I don't remember that, but then again I may have been distracted by the general awfulness of the show. I thought the animation was pretty bad, primarily because of the poor job of mixing CG effects into it. The plot and characters sucked even more. When the first two episodes were played at our club a few years ago, some people at the end shouted "Never play that again!" pretty much everyone else agreed (it really is that bad)

Of course, that scene might not have been meant as a slight. People do lose their faith over the bad things that happen to them, or to loved ones. The clumsiness of the writer (or translator) may not have expressed it fully.

The bashing occurred in the 3rd episode.

I hate that so much because the sci-fi underwater action was so cool and looked so good.

However I forgot to mentiont that the series also contains the use of psychic powers in the form of a little girl who acts as the submarine navigator because she can see and sense things around the sub.

Once again I'm alone in my liking an anime no one else likes ^^;;;

Well, I was hooked back when I wasn't really serious with my faith but the memory still holds till now. The character illustration was done by an illustrator who I really liked the style of, was a large influence in me liking it too.

For once, the 2D-3D mixing didn't bother me too much. Soundtrack was great, and I just like scenes where other people would find boring. A single reference to loss of faith didn't really bother me much (then; probably it would now) since we got that happening virtually *everywhere*. In fact, it didn't bother me because "true Chrisitians" or J-Freaks as I would like to call them would not fall out of their faith like that. The captain was a person practicing the religion of Christianity--not a true believer.

Aside from that religious rant from me, yeah, Ao no Rokugou is still a favorite. If you thought Blue Sub was boring, I wouldn't advise you to watch Jin-Roh--which is yet another favorite of mine.

I suppose it might be a theological difference for some of us then. The idea that a "true Christian" could lose their faith is perfectly compatible with my beliefs, so I wouldn't have any real issue with it per se.

I actually liked Jin-Roh; it was well drawn, and had an intelligent story line.

Heh, Jin-Roh, I actually have that on DVD. True, it's still boring in some parts IMO, but it has an very interesting concept (post WWII, allegory, etc, etc).

I love that series! I seen around 5 episoides.. how many did they make? well, I didnt find anything that was cruddy about it.. I mean it had a very interesting story line to it and plot. And was mention, the soundtrack is great! I think this is a very worth while anime. The animation is just amazing.

Wouldn't it be contradictary with what God said if "true believers" could lose their faith? As with this verse: "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand." from John 10:28 it sounds pretty much the truly saved wouldn't fall out from His hand.

Well, I don't want to start a debate but I just wanted to point out this verse anyway. Sorry Ashley ^^;;; (or any other mod that happens across this)

(my personal beliefs fall in place with what Technomancer said... There is a thing as falling away for many reasons and many verses, but Calvanism/armenianism debates never go anywhere and just get people angry...)

Anyhow, I just thought it was interesting to see:

I found the feeling of this show to be a bit angry... It bothered me, but I didn't watch it so I can't judge it.

OFF TOPIC: Debut is present tense, right? Or not... How do you spell it past tense? Debuted? Or maybe it's not Debut at all... How do you spell that word? It's driving me crazy!

AFAIK 'debuted' (per /usr/share/dict/words)

That verse doesn't cover the person walking out of His hand on their own. Salvation doesn't override free-will.

I like BSno6, but I don't think I completely got the end of it, I know I've watched it a couple of times and felt like I was missing something at the end. Maybe I'll see if I can get the rental from Blockbuster this weekend and give it another watch (maybe un-cut?).

Good point madphilb, but I still find that when a person truly is with Him, they wouldn't *want* to leave on their own--no matter what they went through. If they came to him with wrong expectations and end up getting disappointed and leaves--well, frankly that person came with the wrong intentions in the first place thus not really getting to the point.

Just to stay on topic, I really think this is what happened with the Captain. She sought for a swallow happiness with Him and with the death of her family became disappointed and angry. There's two possibilities here, that she still believes in God and so refuses Him now (contrary to popular belief, believing in God does *not* get you saved) or she could have just been practicing the Christian religion and found that it "doesn't work".

Ao no Rokugo is still a "good" anime regardless but if you want to leave with a happy feeling then I'd probably look somewhere else.

Rokugo I'm assuming that means number six (Roku is six, but I don't know what the counter "go" refers to... The only thing I know "go" to mean is "language")

So it's 6?6...

Anyhow, it seemed far different from Toonami's normal fare (Dragonball, sailormoon, gundam...) and I was shocked it showed up at all. Same thing with .hack... .hack is way too intelectual and complex for toonami... But, then again it is also a very lucritive franchise (like pokemon or DBZ) so I guess that makes sense...

Yeah, I would have translated 'number six' as 'rokuban' but then, I'm not a native speaker.

my mom has taught us in Sunday School for many many years...
she watched it with us... its the only anime movie that she has enjoyed and i liked it too... i didn't think it bashed Christianity at all...

I'm a big fan of this Anime actually. But after a while, I knew I just had to get rid of it because of a few scenes that my parents would die because of. The worst of this was the first meeting with Miutio. This scene could've easily earned a 16+ rating if they had respectable raters at Bandai. Then there was the scene when Zorndyke's main henchdude uh, "kisses" that mermaid girl, and then the final thing was the ear nibble. The end battle was very anti-good ending" and always left a, not-good feeling in me. I absolutely loved the animation (besides some pretty stinky CGI) and the character design for Kino was great I think. But the storyline isn't that great, and there were many instances where they did a really poorly done CGI explosion when it would've looked a whole lot better if it was done traditionally. I still recommend seeing it if you can appreciate it for what it is, but not something I'd be proud of owning.

I've only seen one episode twice, but I liked it. It was when the main guy saves this mermaid chick and she bites him.. i think it must have been pretty early on in the series. Gypsy if u can find the review that would be cool. Thank you.

Actually, we don't have an official review for this anime. I would review it, but I have the Toonami Version dvd and that's not going to help anyone.
