In Need of Some RahXephon Clarity...

Just finished RahXephon a little while ago. All I can say is...... wow (and that doesn't really do it justice). This is one of the anime that I can say has in some way or another changed me. Definitely something profound that goes beyond the scope of a mere "good story". Anyways, I just had few questions I was hoping someone could clear up, as the show seemed a little vague concerning them or I just didn't pick up on it when the answers were given.
1. Haruka says that Maya (Ayato's mother) is her aunt, but the show never seems to connect this relationship (how is Maya Haruka's aunt exactly?) I understand that Rikudoh is Maya's father, thus making him Ayato's grandfather as they point out in the show, but how the heck is Maya Haruka's aunt? For this to be so, Maya would have to be sister to one of Haruka's parents and in no way as far as I could tell was this ever confirmed or even insinuated.

2. Were the Mu basically created by Bahbem, as he was essentially trying to "play God"? That seemed to be what was insinuated, unless there origin is something else that is just assumed ot remain unknown.

3. Are Mulians born Mulians, or do they start out as regular humans and then their blood turns blue? This is what I gathered from the episode on disc 5 where Asahina was freaking out about the blue blood and things of that nature.

4. Are the Mulians just inhabitants of Tokyo Jupiter only that are born that way or "become Mulian" at some stage in life?

5. In the last episode, where Ayato's "consciousness" (can't think of a better word) is conversing with Quon, she seems to be trying to help him by talking to him about to believe in himself and know who he is and know who cares for him and needs him. Yet in the outside world his "ultimate" RahXephon and hers "fight" one another, and his eventually destroys hers, essentially "rebirthing" the world. Why is it that by the last episode it appears that Quon is a "good guy" in that she is helping him discover himself and believe in himself (i.e. talking to him in the "dream" subway and giving him the phone so he can watch the videos of those he cared for), yet in reality their RahXephons are duking it out?

These are the big questions I had. More might pop up later, but please if someone could help clear things up that'd be great. The Quon and Mu questions are the really big ones kind of essential to fully understanding the story, and the others are more or less just "murky waters" Anyways, let me know, as this is something that will plague me until I have some clarity! :bang: :hits_self :mutter:

I'm pretty sure that Mulians are humans who inhabit Tokyo Jupiter, and their blood and DNA and stuff matures (turns blue) over time. Or maybe even just certain specimens of the TJ population, who would be able to control a D-1. Please don't quote me on this.

I wasn't paying attention to the show during the "aunt" part...:)

I don't think the Mu were created by Bahbem. I think they had already existed at some point in time and returned to earth to perpetuate the series' events so that the world would begin anew at the end of the Mayan calendar.

The Quon thing...I'm not sure myself, but I got the impression that she was in love with Ayato, but he was in love with Haruka, and she wanted to tune the world her way so she could have him. Hence the fighting. Again, don't quote me on this, I've only watched the series once.

Hope this provides...at least SOME clarity...

The made a lot of things clearer for me. It's basiclly the show compressed down to two hours, so they explain some things easier, and also change some things around. It's not worth your effort to buy it because it's almost all recycled animation, but you might rent it.
1. I don't think they are using aunt in the same way that we do. Many other countries don't define family relationships in the same way we do. I think the basic idea here is that she is an older family relative about the same age as her parents. Just so the relationships are clear, Maya is not Rikudoh's biological daughter, she and Quon were the two sisters who were spirited forth in that spot where Ayato disappeared. That makes Quon literally Ayato's aunt, if Maya is actually Ayato's mother, which I was sort of confused about.

2. Bahbem is a Mu. He played god by developing the RahXephon system to tune the world. He thought that he could control events in such a way as to create his own ideal world.

3. I'm a little vague here, but I think they are born Mulians, but there blood doesn't turn blue until they "awaken." I think it's hidden from them until they awaken.

4. This is a similar question to the previous one. Mulians don't just live in Tokyo Jupiter. Remember all the other Mulian cities that appear after Tokyo Jupiter is destroyed? They usually occupy a parallel reality or something like that.

5. The whole point of the Tuning is for the Instrumentalist to create a perfect world using their own desires. The inner part is them working out what their real desires are. The outer part is the practical side.
There is also a book called the RahXephon Bible that explains pretty much everything about the show, but I haven't read it.

The RahXephon Bible ony provides info up thru ep 15 or 16.

I recommend watching the movie to kind of flesh out the series.

Also, if you want an indepth look at RahX, check out http://www.animeondvd.com

you have to registar, but then you can search. do an advanced search of Rahxephon 7 [make sure it is in quotes] and do newer than one year. then go to the RahXephon 7 WOW thread. that should keep you busy for several days, literally...

let me know if you can't make it work...
