Next week at the anime club Rocketshipper and I went to, the anime that will be shown sound like they will be "Battle Royal" and "B@stard" (had to censor this one with the "@"). Can anyone tell me what the content is like? I'm a little concerned about B@stard revolving around sorcerers, and I'm also wondering about the other mature content, since its name in itself raises an eyebrow.

I haven't seen it, but that word isn't really a swear. It's a type of sword, known as (and please, I mean no offense by this) a b@stard sword. I assume the anime's name would be from the sword.
Here's an article on it:

As for Battle Royale, I've seen the live action film...
It's a very good movie, but there is a LOT of violence. Dunno about any anime.

B*stard is a dark comedy fantasy about an evil wizard "Dark Schnieder" and how he ends up fighting an evil army because he's grown attracted to a teenage girl. Lots of nudity and violence and crude sexual humor. Many bad puns based on the names of 80's heavy metal bands. (A good cleric casts the spell "Stryper", there's a city called "Waitos Neiku" and another called "Metallicana" for example) Consider it to be the equivalent of an R rating. There's also a manga from Viz rated M (18+) for sexual content. I've heard the claim that the title is based on the name of the sword, but I'm inclined to think it was based on the vulgar term.

Battle Royale is a live action movue based on a novel. However, there's also an anime called Battle Royal High School from AnimEigo, which I'm told has graphic violence in it. The anime has nothing to do with the novel/movie.
