Sailor Victory

 Anybody heard of Sailor Victory? It is a series that mocks the gundam and sailor moon animes + others. It promised to be hilarious. It didn't look that bad. It was rated 13+ - or so I thought.

:shake:

I found parts of it funny, but the opening sequence and the change sequence included nudity. The theme song talked of being a super heroine "so seductively" . I held my breath, thinking that it was not detailed and that it might get better. It was ok - at first. Ugh. One use of the F-word. Several D-words. The B-word is also said at least once.

:banned:

The main theme is "Girl Power". The girls are refered to as "Guardian Gods". Violence, screaming, cussing. Bizar magic sequences from the villianess. People turned into animals. Mega Robot Armors. A robot that thinks it is human and competes with the girl she is modeled off of. Uh ... can we say warped and odd?

Got any input? Oposing opinions? Talk to me. Thanks!

(Off topic - doesn't anybody think the Skittles commercial with the sheep boys is too bizaar?)

(Off Topic-Heck no. They're hilarious! It's irony, is all. Besides, the line "You sheep boys stop that jibber-jabber!" is priceless!)

Saw it. The subtitled version is much cleaner language wise.

It's actually a weird spinoff of an OVA series called "Graduation". The characters also appear in normal form in another AW anime called "Marriage." Just meant to be weird.

The OP is called "Sailor Victory" by the way, and the ED is "Fighting in the Groove" both by "B Club Band"

Nudity is too much for a 13+ rating.

:o Perhaps, but that is what I remembered on the dvd slip. Shame that anime/manga doesn't have a better description ... :shady: ... you know ... so that we can know what we are getting into. Or the rating updated for americans so that we can understand. The nakedness of the girls was brief, but erm .... :red: ... lets just say that this kokoro was not pleased by that surprise. :stressed: I am glad Game Stop has a wonderful return/exchange policy. I bought a new one that I was much happier with.

I never knew those facts about SV. Thanks!

BTW the unedited DBZ flicks are better quality, but rifled with bad language - mostly the D-word, and a level of sexual humor permitted Japanese culture and a few naked babies. Other than that - sub is better than dub in that case.

:hits_self

Yeah, I've been complaining for years about misleading ratings. I mean it's irelavent what the Japanese standard is for nudity and sexual humor. This is America, where the view is stricter towards the age appropriateness of nudity and the ratings should reflect that IMO.

Sailor Victory has nothing to do with Sailor Moon. It's an OVA that predated it by a year IIRC, kind of combining ninja and mecha to create ninja mecha (picture mecha trying to be stealthy and agile like a ninja and that's most of the humor in SV)

...besides there's a lot of anime out there that makes fun of Gundam, so are they your enemies too? (the original SD Gundam-- not that stupid thing on TV right now) totally made fun of the series)

I was unimpressed with Sailor Victory. They tried too hard to be a parody which ultimately failed to be either funny or clever, IMHO.

Of course, comedy is in the eye of the beholder.
