Hey has anyone heard if and when Naruto is going to hit the States? I know that it's been picked up/licensed by someone, but does anyone have any idea when it'll be released? I bought the first manga but haven't read it yet. From what I've seen (pics, amvs, various short clips) the show looks pretty good with some good action as well as emotional depth, but does anyone have an inkling as to whether or not it'll just be another DBZ (show with tons of episodes, nothing ultra deep/impacting in the long run)? Just curious? Gunslinger Girl finally got a license and is coming out in May so I'm stoked about that' I went to Sakura Con in Seattle last weekend and the main "costumes of choice" were either Naruto or FMA (Full Metal Alchemist). Anyways, just curious. Post anything you can and more concerning what I've asked or if you have any other nice tidbits to contribute :-) Thanks!!!

i think there is already a topic about this, but to answer your questions..... naruto is no way dbzish. sure its long and has flashy battle scenes (but they are not over the top flashy like dbz) but its incredibly deep and is very much driven by the plot. i dont think once a fight has happened that had no purpose for happening. besides when my favorite character almost died (and they let on to it) i threw a fit about it. you really get attached to your favorite characters in this show.

Has anyone heard anything about DVD releases though? Also, anyone have any idea about how episodes there are exactly? I heard somewhere like 100, but then I don't know how credible the source was....

There is a lengthy discussion of the upcoming American release here:

As to the question about number of episodes, the series is still airing in Japan and has just reached 130 episodes. The story in the manga is still fairly far ahead of the anime, so it will be a while yet before the series comes to a close.

all i know is if they mess with the sharniguns or byakaguns names im going to be angry. cant you just see it now, a pitched battle neji instead of when the camera zooms in and the blood veins bulge out and he says byakagun he says "White eyes!" or them going on and on about the copy wheel eye (sharnigun) or they call it red eyes or something... boy will that make me and many people angry
edit-
forgot to mention we will see almost none of jurebi (or however you say ero sensais name) he will most likely get cut out of a ton of scenes due to his old perverted hermit anime stereotype

I can't wait to see this come out in the U.S.!
As Desperado said, it is nothing like DBZ so don't worry!

I really don't care much for tv airings anymore, as I'd like to buy the DVDs; those of course should be unedited. I tend to watch dubs if they're well done, but I still have the subs turned on so I don't miss anything that may have been changed. I just hope the DVDs get released soon! I'm reading the manga and love it so far!

Well, can't say much other than this: Naruto is a excellent show! But the manga is better!
Good action, it has some depth and good story. And you really get attached to the characters. It's quite long, as it's sent 130 episodes in Japan now, and it's much more left...
Only thing I'm afraid of is how much they are going to cut the series when it's aired in USA. It's some blood in it, even though it's not much, it might be a little too much for small childrens to watch, is what I think...
EDIT: After what I've heard, One Piece on CN (I think it was) was edited, and so was the DVD's too, even though there was some talking about uncut DVD's was available...Not sure about this, so correct me if I'm wrong, but might this happen to Naruto too?

Has all of Naruto been released in Japan, whether on DVD or aired on TV? How many episodes are there exactly?

That was my general impression during the former saga, but I think the series has had new energy in its second part. Depending on the direction it is taken, I think the series could actually go [u]uphill[/i] before its end.

Well, I'm not tired of the manga yet. I'm done with the anime, but the manga is now coming to some interesting fights (not gonna spoil anything
)

This will sound ironic, but does anyone know a company that sells a good quality bootleg of Naruto, on eBay perhaps? I feel kinda weird breaking one of my own strongest held rules (never buy anything but the real deal), but I desperately want to see this show. My exposure has been limited to some AMVs and screen shots. I wouldn't mind buying some bootlegs on eBay or elsewhere, but what's the best way to go about it?

I fear the dub.

How do I tell what's real japanese stuff vs. bootleg crap then? I don't mind buying offical japanese at all in that case...

That link looks fake to me.
I found the below link very helpful for distinguishing between real and fake anime DVD's.

Just an administrative note: we do not support bootlegs in any form, and we will delete posts pointing to them.

That's a really good link Trigun! What sucks for me is that I just bought the Rahxephon soundtracks, and after reading that, I believe I may have gotten bootlegs without knowing it! D'oh! I'll prolly give them as a gift or something and buy the real ones if I can find them. Animecast is a good seller and I believe they sell legit stuff on eBay, as I've bought from them before.

So then how would I go about finding legit DVDs? From what I've reserached, everything I've seen available on eBay is bootleg. Is there another website that asells the legit DVDs as mentioned earlier?

Anyone heard how many episodes Naruto is going to ultimately have? Last I checked, they're at around 130 in Japan. I'm buying the mangas as they're released and loving them! Hopefully when the DVDs finally come to the states they'll do what they did with the Kenshin arcs and release two or three at a time rather than just one DVD every other month; otherwise it'll take forever for the whole series to get released! It'd be dumb of them to not do this; DBZ I believe would have like 3 DVDs released every other month since it's so dang long. It really makes sense....

The total number of episodes for Naruto is currently unknown. However, I would be surprised if the series is wrapped up in under 200 (judging from the manga).
