Very depressing and has a bad ending. There is some blood but it's not over the top (from what I remember) I think there is one naked scene (atleast there was in the manga) and there are sex scenes but it's not really expicit, but still something you need to be cautious about.

and yes I have seen the anime (just don't remember to much of it) It still is a good series though.

Angsty teenage melodrama that explores the all-too-likely scenario that your high school sweetheart is also the most powerful war weapon ever devised. Bloody (but not Boogiepop Phantom bloody), implied nudity, infidelity, natural and manmade disasters, adult themes, and just a generally incomprehensible and implausible plot line designed to manipulate those who can suspend their disbelief for several hours straight into a blubbering oblivion.

well closetotaku, I think that's just about the best, most concise description of an anime I've heard in a while. I take it you may be slightly bias against Saikano though.
