At some point in the not so distant future I'd like to subscribe to an anime magazine. Which one do you think is the best and why?

Newtype, hands down. They give you a free DVD with two to three episodes on it, nice posters...but watch out for the centerfolds if you're sensitive to that kind of thing. The first copy I got, I had to tear up an Excel Saga centerfold and flush it down the toilet. Kind of fun, actually.

Not to sound a downer, but Newtype is good but its a hit and miss at times. I wouldn't go and pay $90 for a year for it. Plus, I want to see more old anime stuff cover in Newtype.
Plus, I fear in a few years, ADV will drop Newtype, because they are losing money on it.

Oh yes, I meant to mention how expensive it is. And they did misspell Naota's name once. But that's okay. I do like it better than "Anime Insider" or "Becket's Anime Collector", though. More official.

hm...so far i've only read one issue apiece of Animerica and Anime Insider. Definitely didn't care for the Animerica...maybe it was just this particular issue, but it was rather on the racy side. Sure I can take it, but ehhh..i'm trying to sell anime to my family. Anime Insider was better.

Anime Insider is the easiest to get into with small budget.

Newtype is sounding like the best, but painfully expensive, so I may settle for something like Animerica.

Hmmmm, Newtype has gone down in price for their subscription at $80.95.
Note: if you go buy Newtype at store it will be $10 for it. But I think you would be better off playing the $10 for one that you want and not have to pay $80 for year subscription.
Newtype
What I do is, go to their webpage and see what the mouth Newtype has and then just go out and buy it. And yes, Newtype is the best of all anime magazines, but they are high as a price for their subscription.

If you go the Animerica route, keep in mind that it will be on the stands for 1-2 weeks before you get it.
This is my take:
Newtype: Overpriced for a lot of pictures and little text.
ANimerica: Tries to sound cool, but ends up sounding like a bunch of fanboys who think anime is the greatest thing ever and people who don't like it are dumb. Also they tend to tend to be more anime promoters than reviewers. These people tend to declare about 1 "all time classic" about every two months.
ANime INsider: The best of the lot, which isn't saying much. Has humor in it's favor, but sometimes feels like a 30-something type trying to act cool with teenagers...
Protoculture Addicts: Text takes priority over pictures, as this is a B/W magazine. Gives in depth reviews of series. My only problem with it was it dealt a lot with series I didn't care about...

That maybe, because Wizard makes this magazine. I like Wizard's comic book price guide magazine, but sometimes they would get so silly that I wanted to go to their office and slap them.

I'm not familiar with Wizard. I like stupid jokes, which Anime Insider *does* provide, but when they play "trendy" I get annoyed.
Still, Anime Insider and Protoculture are probably the best of the bunch...

That is really the only problem with Wizard. They will play trendy with just about all of their magazines. Other then that and get pass their being a bit too silly at times. I think they more silly in the comic book price guide then anything. Other then that, Wizard does a good job.
