Yay!
I can finallyy watch them ALL! Hahahahaha! I love you ebay! i got the whole set for like $40.( A loving family member gave it to me) The only problem is that our working DVD player is on the computer, and welllllllllllllll...it's hard to share with my family. I did watch the first couple of episodes yesterday. It's all in Japanese and Chinese except for the subtitles, but i'm cool with that. As long as I get to watch my Kenshin.

So you got the entire series? If those are authentic, you are one very, VERY lucky person! O.O

Sorry but those are bootlegs. These are the ways to tell if it's a bootleg.
Different looking covers that look cheap
If it's coming from Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, etc.
If it's under $100 for a complete boxset and not used it's probably a bootleg.
Has 3 to 4 discs
If it doesn't have an official anime distributor logo on it in your case it should have Media Blaster Inc. on it.
If it has Chinese subtitles on it
If it's region free, no region, or all regions (not in every case but for the most part)
An FX logo, they're the biggest anime bootleg company
Now I'll say that not all region free anime are bootlegs but if it has them in the description be very wary.
In your case if the boxset doesn't look exactly like this it's a bootleg. And the normal price I could find this running for was around $100.
I know you thought you were getting a good deal and I fell in the same trap once before like many others. These scumbags prey on that fact and that's how they make their money. Ebay is a cesspool of bootlegs for the most part I wouldn't recommend looking there. There is actually legit anime on ebay but sadly most people don't know what to look for and what to avoid.

You can get legitimate items of ebay. You just have to realize that you're PROBABLY never going to get a legitimate boox set for any less and 3/4 of the original ticket price. Any 26 episode anime box set that's advertised for less then 40 bucks is has a 99.999999% chance of being bootlegged.
But don't worry, Orogirl. It was an honest mistake that alot of people make the first time around.

Yeah there are some actual good deals on Ebay. Heck I bought Macross Plus Volumes 1 and 2 for $10 each. It's just you have to wade through the sea of bootlegs to get to it unfortunately.

Well if it's in Chinese than it's not gonna be like the American box set Yojimbo posted a picture of. Speaking of which, you can get legit Kenshin sets at bestprices.com for under $100.

Have you ever bought anything from them before? If they're a good seller, that's a pretty good deal.

My mom has ordered from them (she got me my Ai Yori Aoshi DVDs from them last holiday season ^^) and there were no problems, and I think I've heard from several that they are reliable.

Overstock.com has good prices too, but I don't know what they're selection is like. I happened upon SDF Macross there for something like $35 per boxed set (each box is 12 episodes).

Yeah the last half dozen things I've ordered have been from overtsock their prices are really good.

Another way I've found to find stuff for cheap is too google it, and then click the "froogle" tab at the top. It comes up with a lot of great deals. So google the show you want, and then froogle it to find a good price.

It's cool, isn't it? That's around what we got ours for. Oh, it was a glorious day when it arrived in the mail!! ^_^
We can watch ours in English though, so that rocks. My favorite episode is the one with the artist. This is later on in the series though.
I'm happy for you, oro!girl !!!

So, um, I guess it is bootleg. Thanks, ssjvash and others for the great encouragment and comradism! It is so cool. My confidence sorta deflated little by little while looking at this thread though...
What should i do if it is bootleg? It does look official and stuff. I thought maybe that was the Chinese publisher. Let's see if that link works.

Nope, the link's not working. But really, don't get too upset. It was a honest mistake. You'll just know what to do better next time.

They almost never release anime in China and Taiwan because the market there is so saturated with bootlegs. But besides the fact I wouldn't worry about it too much you know what to look for next time. Just remember what the signs of a bootleg are and make sure it's legit.

I was fooled too the first time I bought anime online. I got Cowboy Bebop for $30 and thought it was too good to be true, and I turned out to be right.

Don't worry about it. You didn't know, so it doesn't matter.
HOWEVER.
From what you told me about it, it doesn't sound like a bootleg. ^_^

A complete $40 set on ebay with Chinese subtitles.
Let's be honest here... There is only one official boxset and it sure as heck doesn't have Chinese subtitles and wouldn't go for anything less than $80 anywhere. I'm not trying to crush anyone's spirit's here but lets not be in denial please.

No, what I meant was...
I was talking to her on the phone and she described it as the picture shows it.
Maybe Chinese subtitles were added or something...???
And she could have gotten a good deal. It's very rare, but possible.

I've never seen an official anime release in Chinese subtitles. They don't release anything over there because the market is so saturated with bootlegs. Before a series is even done running people are churning out bootlegs of it. They'd only lose even more money than they already from bootlegs if they actually made a Chinese release.
And there is only one official box and if you check the first page that is what it looks like. Sure you "can" get good deals off of Ebay, I have, but you have to know the difference between what's real and what's fake.

Going waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the mention of Digital Eyes: Yes, they are very reliable and it's a great store. I get almost all of my anime from them. They also have great coupons each month. Check out Anime on DVD's retail forum, and you can find them (and the store also emails the codes to you after you make a purchase).
