It's a sidestory of the old Macross series, but way better. Made in 1996 I think (isn't sure.) It's an OVA, so the animation is top-notch. Basically, fighter jets transform into robots that have guns and stuff. Lots of internal conflict. Not alot from the unknown "invaders" side. But I've just seen the first DVD. Still, it's awesome and worth checking out.

It's 4 "episodes" that form a mini OVA. There's also a movie version that cuts down on the time and animation, but making a tighter story. It's only set in the Macross Universe it has nothing to do with the events in Robotech or the characters etc. except for a few minor things. At the very beginning you see the main character fighting Invid, but they never mention the name and it's only for a minute or so. One of the main characters is half Zentraedi. Of course you see the transforming Veritech fighters. And in the end you see the SDF-1 Macross on Earth. I'm in the process of writing a review for it on this site so look for it in the near future.

And yes the veritechs are awsome.

It stands for Original Video Animation. A sort of anime miniseries produced to be released directly to video.
Can also be called, OAV (Original Animated Video).
The word is used both to refer to individual episodes and the series as a whole. Series are usually 4 to 8 eps, each one 30 to 45 minutes long.
Note: 4 to 8 eps is a giving. But some OVA's are longer then ep 8 eps.

Actually, it's just the opposite. The movie version actually has extra scenes that weren't in the four-episode OAV. I should know, I've seen both versions. I highly recommend the movie version for the extra scenes, but there's one catch...it doesn't have an English language option (the OAVs do). So if you would like to hear the Japanese with subtitles (and I think it's the better version), get the movie version, but if you want to see it in English, get the four-episode OAV.
That said, the music is excellent, the animation is top quality, the storyline is very good, even if it has nothing really to do with the other Macross series. Now, content-wise...
Language - medium. No "f" or "s" bombs that I remember, but a few other choice words.
Violence - Mostly robots blowing up, however, there is one scene that I will not spoil that is kinda bloody.
Nudity/sexual content - the main character succeeds in getting into bed with his girlfriend, and there's a scene where he gets a phone call and there's a brief shot of her chest.
I give Macross Plus a 4.7 out of 5!

True it does have a few extra scenes and an extended ending that wraps things up better than the 4 parter, but it's still a 2 hour movie. However the 4 part version is 90 minutes for each DVD. So obviously it has more scenes and obviously they had to cut out some of the unnecesary parts for the movie. Actually the 4 part version has both English and Japanese audio. And actually in the 4 part version with the scene in Guld's apartment there is no nudity at all. And they do say "sh*t" several times. Are you sure you've seen both...?
Anyway I started writing a review like I said awhile ago and I'm getting close to being done with it and submitting it.

I said that. And I quote myself:

I wasn't talking about Guld's apartment. I was talking about when the main character (don't remember his name) shows off for that blonde chick, and she takes him back to her apartment. When they're lying in bed, he gets the phone call ("A fire will be starting in the concert hall in 30 minutes."). He thinks it's a joke and hangs up, and she sits up to ask him who it was, and you see her chest.
And they do say "sh*t" several times. Are you sure you've seen both...?
Okay, I digress. I only saw the first two episodes of the OAV. Furthermore, I watched them in Japanese, not English. Third, my memory isn't that great concerning language, for the simple reason that since it doesn't bother me, so I don't pay it any attention.

Yes you did but when you said.

You make it sound as if the OVA's have only Enlgish audio when it also has Japanese. I know what you meant but someone who hasn't seen it would be confused by the way you phrased that sentence.

Sorry that doesn't happen in the OVA's. Maybe in the movie version but not in this one. When Isamu gets the phone call he is sitting at his desk typing on the computer Lucy is not in the room.

*Thinks*
It's been a while since I've seen it...I don't remember if you can see her whole chest (but only briefly) or one side of it (for a second or two longer), but it's enough that if you have younger brothers, you probably might not want to get it.

I just said that there is no such scene in the OVA's period. I don't know about the movie though.

In the movie you get a full view of her chest for a good couple seconds. The entire length of time that you see her nude, but not necessarily a front view of her chest, is about ten seconds.

That's your decision of course but I hope you didn't base it on just that fact. Like I explained the movie is just a condensed version of the 4 part OVA on 2 DVDs. And in that version no such scene exists.
